Good Job, SgtM! Took yo azz long enough. I watched it drop at 1459hrs and waited and waited. Damned if I was gonna do anything till I saw a comment drop to make the claim of First! Coulda, shoulda, woulda, had oughta, but I didn’t.

Rats of the Cong to you Good Sir! Now open up the bar and put some good snacky stuff out. And light my seegar your most Royally fu@ked FIRSTNESS!

Skyjumper

Not first, not second or even third……Scheisse!

Hey KoB, since you are an hour ahead of me, care to let me in on the future? (grin)

And just because….Happy 113th Birthday to the United States Army Reserve!

KoB

Sky, I see strong brewed coffee, sausage gravy biscuits, scrambled eggs with cheese, and good companionship with a few old Warriors in your future. Save me a plate at that table.

Sparks

Congratulations SgtM! Way to go Brother.

Congrats to our SgtM!

OK this Weekend Open Thread has been just a’laying here for several minutes and nobody has hollered out the phrase needed to claim the Coveted EARNED never awarded title of FIRST! I’m giving you every opportunity in the world here. Not my fault if no one comes along. How long do I have to type to make sure that the King of Battle doesn’t regain his proper place as FIRST on the TAH Friday Weekend Open Thread?

A Proud Infidel®™

I claim Honorary First once again.

((((OVER))))

Mick

3rd?

Roh-Dog

Dang it.
Oh well, at least we’ve a good looking cock for the WOT!
Have a great weekend y’all!

26Limabeans

That is a pretty bird. Unlike the Wild Turkey I just
saw while exiting the Interstate about an hour ago.
Damn those Toms are one ugly bird.

Roh-Dog

Says you! Beauty is in the eye [shotgun] …holder. 110 hours until opening season on state lands here in PRofCT.
When they get all fluffed up they’re a sight to see.
By far the most beautiful of His creatures here is the ringed-neck pheasant. Unfortunately they make you work for the delicious.

11B-Mailclerk

We have always been at war with Eurasian Grouse.

SFC D

I thought Wild Turkey was in a bottle.

2nd Winter just ended.

Almost First!

9TH!

First time I’ve been in the top ten in centuries.

Small bit of news available for those interested:

The GiveMeMoney fund (established by his lawer) for the 5 years time in grade 2LT has kinda stalled out at the 15.5K total. No donations in over 48 hours.

And the UH-1 Huey Fakebook page ran by fake pilot “Left Low Ball” Jimmy Walls has went Tits Up. So no more nightly ball washings for him./smile

Sparks

Glad to hear this Claw!

ChipNASA

Top 10 so Yay. (Maybe not because I was looking things up as I was typing) Little early today.
Nice oneSgtM

Just hanging out doing a little work and waiting until it’s later to do some NOT work stuff.
OK then, carry on!!
I’ll be in the area all weekend.

Oh and nice one SpaceX. Nailed the reused Crew Dragon space capsule, 4 folks on orbit and a nice touchdown, so SCORE!!!!

Commissioner Wretched

My congratulations to SgtM for achieving FIRST on the WOT! Way to go! To recognize that feat, here’s this week’s trivia column. And a side note to thebesig: Your much-appreciated correction for last week’s column is noted and recognized in the column for next week. Many, many thanks! DID YOU KNOW…? Did a slip in a bathtub allow the Louisiana Purchase in 1803? By Commissioner Wretched Isn’t it amazing what a smile or a friendly voice can do? I mean it. Think about the last time you felt sour, unloved, or just plain ticked off at the world … and then someone smiled or said something nice to you. It changed your whole outlook, didn’t it? (Or you became a serial killer, one of the two. I hope not, but you never know.) It happens to me all the time. My normal cheery demeanor having been tested in one way or another, all I need to feel better is a smile or a friendly voice. Getting both is like winning the Daily Double, and we should all help people win the Daily Double, don’t you think? Since I can’t provide a friendly voice in a newspaper column, I’ll do the next best thing – make you smile with some trivia. Have fun and have a great day! Did you know … … caffeine is not the best thing for waking yourself up in the morning? For a real jolt, try an apple. Apples contain quercetin, which is an antioxidant. (Or to cover all the bases, do what I do sometimes – try an apple dunked in coffee.) … the fish with the most protein is the yellowfin tuna? It has 30 grams of protein per 100-gram serving. Following the yellowfin are anchovies (29 grams), salmon (27 grams), halibut (27 grams), snapper (26 grams), and tilapia (26 grams). (Don’t you find something fishy about all that?) … one of the largest sports cover-ups in history happened in the Soviet Union? In 1950, almost the entire Soviet Air Force national ice hockey team was killed in a plane crash at Sverdlovsk. The… Read more »

As to geese: on the ground, they’re a flock; flying, they’re a skein; on the water, they’re a gaggle; and when they’re flying over my car after I just washed it, they’re a blankety-blank-blank-etc.

Commissioner Wretched

Ah! A third term! (And a fourth I can’t put in the newspaper.) Thanks much!

Ex-PH2

I just refer to geese in flight as flights of geese. They’re flying away form or toward something. Technicalities only matter when they are near cities.

Ex-PH2

A “ketchup” made of fish and mushrooms???? Well, with today’s modern kitchen equipment, one could possibly come up with a viable and tasty condiment, but it would have to be the right kind of fish and most likely a mushroom with a supporting but not intense back note. It would likely require lemon in some form and garlic, plus a jot of a reasonably low-key white wine.
In re: the fish, probably canned salmon or canned tuna, or possibly grilled trout, which tastes a good deal like chicken when prepared properly, and the mushrooms? Plain old button mushrooms, and canned will also do with that, because they’re cooked and less likely to spoil.
I will address this and see if it works, and if the red-breasted mergansers have not harvested all the trout, I might be able to make a reasonably good sauce to go with the trout… or just buy it at Aldi.

I will find out what I can come up with.

Skyjumper

Never was a big fan of canned salmon (with the red sauce), but ate my share of canned sardines in mustard sauce layered on Mom’s homemade German ryebread.

Remember more than once nicking my fingers on the tin edge when opening it up with the “key”. Course, if the key was nowhere’s to be found, a trip down to Dad’s shop to retrieve a pliers, was in order.

MacGyver didn’t have a thing on us back then. (smile)

Thanks for the memories, Ex-PH2.

Dennis - not chevy

Back when I was an Amn (E-2) at my first duty station, my Aunt sent me a care package. I remember there were cans of sardines and (I think) some socks included in the package. I ate the sardines because the smell bothered my pain-in-the-neck room dog. I often wondered why she sent me sardines until I read a biography of a WWII ETO Infantryman. The infantryman wrote of how happy he was when he got a package from home that included sardines – my Uncle was a WWII ETO Infantryman. I won’t complain; what was good for my Uncle was good for me.

CW:

Thank You again for providing us another week on interesting trivia.

You also always keep a cheerful, uplifting spirit, i.e. you look at a glass as being half-full and not half-empty.

Wish you could pass your optimistic, upbeat attitude toward that doom and gloom Puppet who resides in the White House.

Bet KoB won’t cancel his 4th of July cookout…(Southern Food Rules)😉😎

That Puppet and the Snake In The Grass Facuci both live in an Alternate Reality World:

“Biden Warns If Americans Don’t Get COVID Jabs They Might Have To Cancel July 4”:

https://nypost.com/2021/04/21/biden-warns-if-americans-dont-get-covid-vaccine-they-might-have-to-cancel-july-4/

“President Biden on Wednesday warned Americans they may have to cancel “small” outdoor gatherings on the Fourth of July if there’s a slowdown of COVID-19 vaccinations.”

“More than 51 percent of American adults have received at least one vaccine dose, according to CDC data, indicating that herd immunity and the pandemic’s end are near.”

“But Biden said at the White House that he’s not yet comfortable saying people can hold small outdoor gatherings on Independence Day.”

“Back on March 11, I outlined a vision of what America could look like by the Fourth of July — an America that was much closer to normal life that we left behind more than a year ago,” Biden said.”

“He warned: “To celebrate our independence from this virus on July 4th with family and friends in small groups, we still have more to do in the months of May and June. We all need to mask up until the number of cases goes down, until everyone has a chance to get their shot.”

Commissioner Wretched

Thank you for your kind words, Ninja … it’s my great pleasure to bring the silly stuff I write to you all each week.

As for Biden, Fauci, and the rest … someone needs to remind these people that WE DO NOT NEED THEIR PERMISSION to have a cookout on July 4th or any other time. I’ll rescind that statement as soon as someone points out where in the Constitution it says they can tell us that and make it stick.

A sauce made from fish? Try Worcestershire Sauce, it’s Anchovies dissolved in vinegar!

David

Think the Vietnamese have a fish sauce? I also seem recall a fermented fish sauce (wonder what THAT smelled like!) called Garum.

The worst smell with the best taste that I have ever sampled is Muk-Tuk from the Native Alaskans that I got to know while stationed in the Yukon !!!!
It’s pickled whale skin and Native Alaskans are the only ones that can make it because they still hunt whales and use pretty much most of the animal without wasting very much at all.
It’s a horrible smell, kind of like vinegar, old socks and something that crawled out of the ditch and died in your backyard.
BUT !!!!!!!
The taste is truly delicious with a description impossible to put into words that would fit the taste of Muk Tuk.
It’s like pretty much all of Alaska, if you can get through the temperatures the word magnificent is the starting place to describe it and go up from there !!!
Have a great weekend Boys and Girls !!!
Stay sane, safe and out of jail, institutions or a pine box…..

A Proud Infidel®™

David, I think what you’re referring to is what’s called Nuoc Mam, and I’ve heard that it makes Kimchee smell like Chanel No 5 in comparison.

rgr1480

In Thailand they call it Nam Pla [fish water].

The darker it is, the smellier it is.

Well beyond crush depth.

Sounds like the Indonesian Navy has declared it’s sunk (now thought to be about 2,800ft down). Items have been recovered that were inside the ship.

met the same fate.
Not everyone recovered, nor found.

Hack Stone

Finally checking in on The Weekend Open Thread. Hack would have been here sooner, but he exciting news. The proud but humble woman owned business that sells software to the federal government just teamed up with Ambassador Worldwide Protection Agency to provided them much needed software to prevent Thomas “Turd” Bolling from misplacing his firearm. The software also allows him to track how many complaints of sexual harassment have been filed against by current and former employees.

Meanwhile, down in Merritt Island Florida, Phil Monkress of All Points Logistics is spending the weekend going through employee files, seeing if he can find another easily manipulated employee that he can browbeat into going on line to defend his imaginary career as US Navy SEAL.

KoB

Hack Stone from what I hear, down in Floruduh, a certain BeNasty wanna be lawer, pileit, and cpo is still maintaining his social distancing of minus 6 feet AGL.

Will that software also tell someone how much fuel they have left til they get to a crash site?

Anyone else want to make excuses for
1LT shitbag “God Told Me To” (invade Iraq) Bush 43?

[Former President George W. Bush
wrote in the name of his former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
on his 2020 presidential ballot rather than voting for his own party’s nominee Donald Trump for reelection, he told People magazine.

“She knows it,” Bush told the magazine, referring to Rice,
one of his closest advisers during his presidency.
“But she told me she would refuse to accept the office.”]

THE NICEST thing I can make myself say about GW Bush is that he was the lesser of two evils when having to choose between him or Al Gore Junior.

MarineDad61

A Proud Infidel@,
Yep.
The butthurt of Jeb Bush going down in expensive flames,
with the new 2016 nicknames to match,
really rubbed the Bush Bunch raw.

After the elaborate overspending on Jeb’s 2016 campaign,
I still wonder how much the Bush League squirreled away.
You know, because of entitlement,
or because everyone else does it.
Enough to live in opulence for decades?

A Proud Infidel®™

I bet that the inside crowd wanted George HW Bush as the GOP Nominee in 1980 but quickly saw what a powerhouse Ronald Reagan was and reluctantly nominated him. Jeb did a decent job as Governor of Florida, but he drank WAY too much of the DC Insider Kool-Aid when he tried to run for the GOP Presidential nomination, that and we do NOT need any more political dynasties here in the USA.

MarineDad61

A Proud Infidel*,
Really.
Before I was a Marine Dad,
my chiming in on politics in 2000
on AOL (American Online) went like this…..

(I quote myself…)
“New York state has almost 20 million people,
and the best they can do for a new Senator
is the carpetbagger wife of an impeached President,
who lied for pussy, and then got himself impeached for lying about pussy?
And she stuck up for him?
Against the women??”
(end self quote)

Democrats (including women) in 2000
weren’t buying the “woke” and “me too” back then.
But they’d still vote for Hillary in 2016
(we see how that worked out, the birth of TDS),
and try to pump up the daughter
(we see how that’s working out).
