ODU ROTC Cadets Halt Attacker
Former Army National Guard member Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, who had spent eight years in prison for attempting to aid the Islamic State, opened fire on a classroom at Virginia’s Old Dominion University on Thursday yelling “Allahu Akbar” before shooting. He killed one and wounded two.
Then the ROTC students killed him, authorities said.

The suspect responsible for killing one person and injuring two others at Old Dominion University (ODU) was disarmed by a group of students, with officials commending their bravery as the shooting unfolded.
36-year-old Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, a former Army National Guard soldier convicted of supporting ISIS, reportedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” as he opened fire inside the Virginia university on Thursday.
FBI officials said the shooting is being investigated as an act of terrorism, with Director Kash Patel revealing Jalloh was disarmed by a group of students at the university.
“The shooter is now deceased thanks to a group of brave students who stepped in and subdued him – actions that undoubtedly saved lives along with the quick response of law enforcement,” Patel said in a social media post.
Jallah was pronounced dead at the scene, ODU Police Chief Garrett Shelton told reporters during a news conference.
While Jallah was not shot, the FBI has not yet elaborated on how he died.

The ROTC instructor’s name is LTCOL Brandon A. Shah, an ODU alum himself who became an Army aviator. He served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, awarded the Senior Army Aviator Badge, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and 2 Bronze Star medals (among others). Before his assignment to ODU, he was the Brigade S-3 (Senior Operations Officer) of the 3d Combat Aviation Brigade at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia.

Some of the early reporting I saw stated Lt Col Shah was retired Army. TAH has cleared up that piece of bad poop. Now can anyone explain how a convicted felon came to be in possession of a firearm. I PCSd from tidewater Virginia a few decades ago, but the instant background check as part of the process seemed to work real well then.

Feds already announced that the straw buyer who sold Jalloh the gun is facing charges. He claims that while he knew Jalloh had done several years, he knew nothing of Jalloh’s specific crimes or the terrorism link.
