Tracking history of the Ever Given

In the Suez Canal there’s a Taiwanese ship, Ever Given, that’s run hard aground. It’s blocking one of the most important waterways in the world. The Suez is a major point of world commerce. Nearly 19,000 ships transited the waterway last year, that’s an average of more than 50 per day.

While the massive container ship is blocking up the port, and backing countless ships up on both sides of the Sinai Peninsula the last three days, people have looked at the ship’s recent voyage history. Just before entering the canal, Ever Given left its designated anchorage point and tootled around before entering the canal. In doing so they drew the unmistakable visage of a cock and balls.

Just miles later they ran aground, grinding the canal to a stop, likely costing the world billions of dollars in the process. Like a flag officer looking for his next star, it seems that Poseidon is not a fan of penis drawings. Now we need the landlubbers to put some trackers on a tank or something and draw out a wang or two.

Best story I ever heard concerning risque graffiti came from a book about graffiti I read as a lad. In that book was a vignette about an enterprising (but apparently rather bored) individual in Alaska who happened to live in a remote area – which was also under the flight path of major airlines.

He/she used a snowmobile to write a “monstrous, four-letter obscenity” in the snow in half-mile high letters. It was reportedly clearly visible to passing aircraft for quite a while.

My uncle Bob was a Navy helo pilot, retired in 1980. His retirement house was directly in the path of a designated B-52 low-level flight route. He went out after his barley field was harvested and plowed “FLY NAVY” in 50 ft tall letters.

Somebody got way yonder too much time on their Ever Lovin’ Hands. And I wonder if somebody else is gonna be Ever Given’ some ‘splainin’ for their course?

I exited the canal on 3/16… just ahead of this shit show. My friend was on the ship directly astern of Ever Given and witnessed the whole show.

D’oh!!

They’re saying they got hit with high winds from a passing dust storm and lost control. Those big bastards steer like pigs to begin with in calm conditions and even bank cushion can’t save them. Initially I guessed they had a steering/power failure.

The second mates on the American ships caught behind her will go to their banks with wheelbarrows with the OT they’re set to make drawing up new voyage plans for the Cape.

It’s as if they knew they were going to dick things up. This is what happens when you purchase your navigation software from a proud but humble woman owned business formerly located in Bethesda Maryland.

Steady as she goes, Dan!

Well, looks like “bigger” is not really “better”, after all.

Whaddaya bet that the ‘captain’ of Ever Given has permanent shore leave after this?

I would not want to be the owners’ insurance company – or bank account.

Or is this “proof of concept”?

SgtBob

It is a test. It is only a test. Now they know how many ships it takes to fill the Albert Hall. Or something similar.

As if submarines weren’t already phallic enough.

AND full of “seamen”!

Is this a Chinese dry run of how to block a canal?

A Proud Infidel®™

I was thinking the same thing!

^THIS^ Chinese Communist already have control of the Panama Canal. Why not practice blocking this one too?

Deckie

Company is Taiwanese I believe.

We’ve been enjoying the memes aboard our ship though… especially the Austin Powers gif.

I guess they didn’t bribe the Egyptian canal pilot with enough cigarettes?
