Man, security guard killed in shooting outside Rookies Sports Bar and Grill in Parma; 2 men arrested

PARMA, Ohio — Two men were killed in a shooting outside of Rookies Sports Bar and Grill in Parma early Saturday morning—one of whom was working as a security guard for the bar, according to the Parma Police Department.

Around 2:13 a.m., officers were called to the bar located on Pearl Road for a report of a shooting.

Once on scene, officers found two men, both with multiple gunshot wounds.

Sean Acierno, 29, was walking through the parking lot of the bar when he was shot. He died as a result of his injuries, police said.

Timoteo “Tim” Cruz, 27, an off-duty Cuyahoga County Corrections Officer with a valid CCW permit, was working as a security guard for the bar. After Acierno was shot, Cruz returned fire at the shooter, striking him.

Police said the shooter gunned down Cruz and crawled into a getaway vehicle after being hit by a bullet fired by Cruz.

Cruz also died as a result of his injuries.

Nothing good ever happens in a bar parking lot after 0200. Sympathies to the Security Guard’s Family.

Kool linky on the Ruger 10/22. All God’s Chill’ren needs them a plinker that can go pew pew pew 22 times.

Condolences to Officer Cruz’s family, good on him for trying to protect the community.
Not having access to further information, I can only speculate, but this sounds like a targeted killing. Mr. Acierno being shot with one of them “Assault rifles” (note: this could be the first time I have actually heard of an AR-15 being used in this manner)…because they assaulted him with it. It was not likely a dispute from the bar that spilled over, though it could be a truck gun.

There are only 3-400 homicides annually from all types of long guns (rifles, shotguns, muskets, whatever) combined. As a percentage of murders, “assault weapons” are inconsequential. This is per FBI statistics.

No doubt one of the poorer gun reviews I have read. He faults one version as less safe and having a non-threaded barrel when it is identical to the other. He says a 10/22 was notable for being able to fire 300 rounds between cleanings… frankly, I have never owned a .22 which wouldn’t. And ‘the first accurate .22″? Really? Winchester 52s or 1906s, Marlin 39s… guns a half century older which will punch tiny groups all day long. Or even its contemporary, the Marlin model 60. Truly a crap write-up.

Poetrooper

Ol’ Poe calls BS on that “first accurate .22” stuff as a shooter who has owned both a Ruger 10/22 and a Marlin 39A. I love my little Ruger but my Marlin had a more solid feel to it and while I never compared them for accuracy, with its longer barrel, I’d bet on the Marlin.

Love my 10/22, a veritable tack-driver and wonderful snake shooting gun. Used to enjoy shooting mud daubers around one of the stock ponds. Between the snakes and the wasps there was always something to shoot at.

Recently found the receipt for my 10/22 purchase. Bought it in 1973 in San Antonio and it’s still in pristine, nearly-new condition.

Inspired by this article, just got it out for the first time in almost a year and, yup, except for one small nick on the fore-stock, it looks like a new gun. Just showed it to Miz Poe and she can’t believe it’s 48 years old.

Plan to pass it on to one of my great-nephews.
