When Worlds Wobble….
Ah, that old prefix ‘www.” It’s so reminiscent of a more innocent time, when computers didn’t exist as a means of making a trainwreck out of life.
As I was nosing around the interwebs, looking for something like pie dough recipes, I found this link on another blog. http://voxday.blogspot.com/2021/01/uatv-update.html
I did take the time to read through it, but the gist of it shows up in the beginning of the blogger’s article.
From the article: UPDATE by Markku: There are some signs of things moving very fast and I believe there is a real chance of the internet really going down soon. We have discussed how this would most likely be done with the llk techies already, and it would be incredibly risky for them to try doing it at the IP level. There are so many critical services depending on IP.
What is much more likely is poisoning the world’s DNS servers by Google, after which all the sites are still there, but you can’t see them, except ones that are specifically allowed by Google. The nice thing about this is that you can work around it, if you act before it happens. You need to store the necessary information locally, where Google can’t get at it. (N.B.: He means a back-up on an adequate SSD that you can unplug from your PC.)
There is just one step that you need to do right now, before the internet goes down. How to do it depends on your operating system. – article
Now, while I do not doubt that the owner of that blog is a bit freaked or spooked by something, and got spooked by something he found (mostly likely speculation), the thing he fails to take into consideration is what it will – not would – really take to shut down the entire worldwide internet web, which is now http/s. (Remember that www dot whatever prefix?) At this point, it is so complex and so strung out all over the globe and into space that shutting it down completely will – not would – take weeks and weeks of work by hackers and programmers.
Anyone ever use dial-up computer service? Anyone? Bueller? I mean, really, when you really think about it, Wang wasn’t all that bad, was it? Lotus was easy to use. WordPerfect was just typing without a typewriter.
The real logistics of shutting off the internet include “telecom” with satellites, air traffic, rail lines, ships at sea (all kinds), financial markets, medical centers, supercomputing stations like those in Iceland where Bitcoin resides… and gosh and golly durn, the list is literally endless, isn’t it? All those GPS systems that people use, instead of their brains, will be shut off so if you can’t figure out how to get home from the grocery store because your GPS master is down, you’re stuck in that store parking lot, even if you don’t have groceries, and you likely won’t be rescued by a sympathetic cop. They’ll have enough to do directing traffic and intersections because the traffic lights are all out of order.
I mean, really, truckers would have to go back to CB radios and hope the ceiling is high enough for someone in Indiana to reach Wyoming, right? Why not smartphones? They’re uplinked to the whole wireless system, which is run by gigantic supercomputers. Yottabytes is not a foreign language word. And the satellites that transmit your call from you to a distant destination like Beijing simply won’t go through. You might not even get an automaton’s response to your call. And landlines? They’re all run by big computer systems, too, with all the switching done by electronic signal jiggling, instead of Hooman operators pulling phone jacks out of their spots and pushing them into place.
And wouldn’t it make Bitcoin really worthless, never mind how much money Xi Jinping has squirreled away in his private pot of gold? Fella’s gotta have something set aside for retirement, right? But if Bitcoin is buzzing electrons and switches instead of hard currency and people have invested everything in that, then that silly old man down the block who keeps a secret wad of cash might be king (or something) for a day or two.
The only real treat in this could be that China and Zuckerberg and Gates and those other smarmy dorks who had a bright idea and followed it would be out of business until it all got “fixed”…. But that might take weeks…. or months…. or maybe even years.
How would you like to go to the drive-up ATM, stick your card into the slot, and get the screen readout “NO ACCESS”. Then you have to get out of your car, go into the bank, ask what’s going on and you find out that, as with your WiFi TV which doesn’t work, either, that all the bank’s computers are down, they’re working on it, do you know what your balance is? And then you go to the store to pick up a few things and no, their entire computer-based checkout system is not working but someone was clever enough to get an adding machine and can do the total on your groceries for you… except that if there’s no price list at the checkout register, you’re screwed. And then, your car, because it’s got a chip in the starter board, no longer recognizes your key because that signal isn’t transferring any more to the car’s CPU, and you’re stuck in the parking lot with about 500 other people whose lives suddenly were came to a screeching halt.
Well, computer world was fun while it lasted, wasn’t it?

“One Second After” Read and Heed!
Gas stove (older model), 200 gallon filled propane tank, 8.5KW generator w/ 25 gallons of real gasoline, COP CRCTR has basement with upper and lower wood burning fireplaces, 90 days worth of assorted dried and canned foods (and TP), plus critter food. Survived 60 some odd years without an inherweb connection or a cell phone. There’s a black bakelite rotary dial phone hooked to a twisted copper pair going to the CO that still has the old school relays on a transcontinental copper cable (FCC still requires Ma Bell to have those copper lines working). I would miss my basket of adorable deplorables, but AW1Ed does have my landline number, and I can see Ex, OAM, and the Sunday Ms Thang in my dreams, so there is that.
Do wish I still had the ’62 Ford Falcon Station Wagon that I traded to ex husband in law for a Troncoli WBTS print when he divorced ex #2 (it WAS mine and is worth more than the Falcon was at the time) However I can scoot around on my little Chubby Kay-Dette. And I gots a supply of coins that could be made into arrowheads when my supply of flint runs out. Oh and lest we forget, there’s a spare pipe going into the deep well aquifer I’ve already experimented with dropping a small bucket on a mule tape to bring water back up with.
Now, who wants to help guard that North Wall?
So the North Wall is your weak spot eh? That’s some nice stuff you have there.
Not sure if it is or not 5JC, but the last time we got invaded down heah, they came from the North. 😀 Buck Travis re-enforced the North Wall of The Alamo and John Wayne re-enforced The North Wall in The Green Berets. Just playing the odds hoping to get an edge. The FIRST (ht 2 Sarge) trip wire for the foo gas is there.
I picked up several 20lb tanks from my towns recycle yard and swaped them out for new full ones. On the cheap.
The very best thing about the interwebz is that you can get great music, like this from some very talented “Native Americans” (Central American?).
One of the most beautiful songs ever written !!!
Thanks for linking to that. It’s kind of dusty in here right now.
Thank you.
It linked to one of my songlists that I listen to all the time.
Calms me down after dealing with the crap we see on a day to day basis.
Like all things in life, the interwebz are both good and bad.
It’s easier if we remember the good and ignore the bad until it affects us deeply.
Sarah Hicks is the guest conductor for the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.
As far as I’m concerned, she is one of the most beautiful ladies on Earth and immensely talented too.
Her Father committed suicide on Christmas Day many years ago.
I keep trying to tell her that it wasn’t her fault.
If anyone here has to deal with someone doing the ultimate act of selfishness, please remember, it’s not your fault, no matter what you said, thought or did, nothing would change their minds once that horrible decision was made.
I dealt with it too…….
I’ll leave it at that….
Thanks for the friendship over the years. It’s an honor to be in a club so exclusive we even let me in it !!!
South Park had that..sarc

Needs Nathan Phillips on percussion.
Please don’t go down, Internet. I really don’t want to have to go back to conversing with humans in person. Ewww
The cute adorable cat videos, man. That would be a Code Red DEFCON 1 situation.
How would I get my Sunday funnies??!!
A man has to draw a line somewhere. That line stops in front of the Sunday funnies. Here and no further!!
There are alternate/counterculture DNS servers. If you have their IPs in advance, and the public/main ones get torched or poisoned, you can switch to the others.
Now if someone touches them with massive traffic, they won’t work either.
Right now, the Internet relies on a great deal of redundancy, and a great deal of trust that the keepers of DNS and similar play it straight.
The moment that trust changes, those keepers are long-term screwed. So if they go there, they will be regretting it by and by, as various real powers and authorities size control of their currently profitable low-government playground.
So don’t skin that smokewagon.
When you think about it, all it would take is for someone to throw a few circuit breakers. Click, TEOTWAWKI. EMP or grid attack would do the same thing, One Second After is a good reference.
remember a while back when youtube went out? remember a few weeks ago when everything google related went down? set up/dry run that bled over.
World wobble:
Why did Vogue, reliably lefty, just apparently stick a knife in Harris’ back, and twist?
Cover photo, not the one supposedly agreed with the campaign, bad/unserious look including sneakers, and allegedly making the rather pale Harris look much more pale.
That, folks, if as alleged, is a mean-girls hit job.
So WTF? Her conduct and politics are fair game. People generally leave Berlin’s rumplesuitskin look and bad hair alone, so how is her garb relevant? Ok, folks mocked “momjeans” so suit is in play, I guess.
WTF is this shit with re-tinting folks? (OJ, Zimmerman, Harris, others)
That is fucktard stuff.
Helps to add the dang link, duh.
https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2021/01/sunday_schadenfreude_vogue_mag_treats_kamala_harris_with_all_the_seriousness_she_deserves.html
That cover is like the pictorial version of her obnoxious cackle.
Ex-ph2, I realize you mean internet shenanigans, not general weird WTF, so off topic.
But that article just … Wtf.
Yeah, I ran that by a couple of people. The guy who runs that has “stuff in his head”, but his concern seemed real enough (to him), so I went with it. It really applies here where I live because my internet service has gone down at least once a year, as has my electric service, so all it really takes is for someone somewhere to throw a switch to the “OFF” position.
If you think it’s impossible, right now in the UK, Boris the Idjit Prime Minister is promulgating NO CARBON-BASED HEAT for the winter, period. And the new strain of CV19 started in the UK, so he’s got that going for him, too, but when I accessed the live cams in Cornwall yesterday, I saw people all over the place.
It all makes so much sense, doesn’t it?
For those of you not in the know, Parler, an app that is a direct competitor to twitter has been completely deplatformed in the last 24hrs. They have been banned from the Apple app store and the Google play store, there were reports that they had lost their hosting services, but their website is still up. Apparently it’s been reported that they have lost their payment processing services so no more sponsors/advertisers. I just visited their website, and there are no ad/banners on any of the pages of the few individuals I follow who post there.
story- https://deadline.com/2021/01/parler-ceo-says-service-dropped-by-every-vendor-and-could-end-the-company-1234670607/
Google and big tech are in bed with the Dems, and if Trump tries anything they don’t like, they are going to muzzle the internet so the main stream media can control the narrative. I guess the Republicans never should have floated the idea of a antitrust break up of big tech.
Saw a news story that Visa will be ending payment services for any campaigns (read Republican) that “support hate speech”, which means any form or wrong think.
So this is the conclusion of the commies “long march through the institutions”. It’s been fun.
Remember when Donks used to natter on endlessly about too-big businesses colluding to fix markets and squash competitors, thus screwing consumers?
Apparently they don’t.
I started out in Unix in 1979 on a typewriter style computer using thermal paper and no monitor. I still remember connecting via dialing in, getting the tone, putting the telephone handset down onto the computer and then typing in the IP address xx.xx.x.xxx and going from there.
