Removal of POW/MIA flag from atop White House sparks anger among those who hate the president

| September 14, 2020

The White House moved the POW/MIA flag from atop the White House to a POW/MIA memorial site on the South Lawn earlier this year. Since The Atlantic trashed what little reputation they have as a source of journalism recently with an anonymously sourced hit piece against the president (widely discredited by actual, named sources) now people are hunting for any sign to reinforce the belief that Trump hates veterans. The latest is that the POW/MIA flag was moved. To hear the usual suspects this is akin to Trump walking to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and dropping a deuce.

Democratic Senator Jack Reed said, “It’s part of a pattern of disrespect by President Trump toward those who honorably served our nation.”

Just a few months ago the media was disgusted when Trump touted his improvements to veteran’s services that have increased satisfaction with VA services at a Memorial Day event. See Trump Turns Memorial Day Event into Quasi Campaign Rally.

Heck, it wasn’t all that long ago that the POW/MIA flag itself was a “racist” symbol.

You know that racist flag? The one that supposedly honors history but actually spreads a pernicious myth? And is useful only to venal right-wing politicians who wish to exploit hatred by calling it heritage? It’s past time to pull it down.

Oh, wait. You thought I was referring to the Confederate flag. Actually, I’m talking about the POW/MIA flag.

Read the rest of the article here; The Story of the Other Racist Flag (After facing backlash, this utterly despicable tripe was changed to “The Story Behind the POW/MIA Flag”). Fascinatingly, this article is written by someone who purports to be a historian!

Earlier this year Congress passed a law requiring the POW/MIA flag to be flown all year at certain federal buildings. Trump signed the law and received plaudits for it from groups like the VFW.

    A memorial site? Good.

Yeah, I’m not seeing the problem. Of course, I don’t see the problem in any complaint that leftists have.

      • Commissar says:

        Here is an explanation.

And it was not the “left” that was outraged about it first.

        • MI Ranger says:

Your article from Reuters, printed in TaskandPurpose is from the left. The outrage sighted was from three Democratic Senators who asked the White House to reconsider moving the flag. The whole article implies it might be illegal but can not seem to sight any actual law it could have broken. Not even the one newly signed by the President!
It further states the VFW and members of other organizations we fine with it, once they knew where it was and why it was moved!

          • timactual says:

One of the few times he has ever provided “evidence” to support his raving and it bit him on the ass. Clever fellow.

        • Slow Joe says:

          Lars Ulrich,

Since when does the Left cares about veterans?

This is openly and blatantly an attempt to drive a wedge between President Trump and his supporters.

The Left have been trying really hard to lower voter turn up for President Trump by lowering the level of excitement we have for him.

All this “Trump hates vets” is a psy-op designed to influence center-right people. Democrats wouldn’t give a rat ass if Trump hated veterans. Democrats have ALWAYS hated the military and the veteran community. This is not a secret.

But I guess Democrats think we are stupid and can’t see through their games.

  2. And it goes on and on and on and on and on from the demoRAT merry go round.

  3. Commissar says:

If a democrat administration did this you all would not be making excuses to defend it.

And talk about credibility with partisan hit pieces?

This blog churns our partisan hit pieces daily.

And if credibility was something you all actually cared about you would not be defending a president that lies constantly.

But because he switched parties to Republican, suddenly he can do no wrong.

      • Commissar says:

        Yeah yeah yeah,

But to the casual observer, I am not the seagull.

This entire blog has become one.

Since Trump took office the blog went form clearly partisan leaning to outright full distard partisan squawking whatever the right wing outrage of or propaganda message of the day is.

With respect to politics I already know what this blog will likely have posted about and what they will have said about it before I even read it in the morning.

It is selected items from programmed menu of talking points the right wing blogosphere and right forums on reddit are squawking about.

Same stuff, same opinions, same rationalizing of whatever the Trump administration does or says.

If you can’t rationalize it; you all ignore it. Like the fact that he knowingly lied about the virus. Calling it a hoax and “like the flu” when he knew full well it was at least five times more deadly and more contagious.

When I came here it was under the Obama administration. This blog was critical of government actions and decisions. It was, clearly partisan. And often I found the criticism a bit bullshit or purely partisan… but at least it seemed this was a blog so mostly genuine principled conservatives who believe what they are saying and are saying it because they had a coherent set of values and principles they were defending.

The Trump administration revealed all that to be bullshit. There are no coherent values being defended anymore. The administration has not values or principles. Trump decisions are all whatever he thinks is best for himself and he only makes short term decisions.

On issues of politics this blog reflects the same lack of coherent values or principles. The president does it then it is defensible. Whatever the president does is rationalized to being perfectly fine. If you can’t rationalize it you pretend it didn’t happen. Either refuse to believe it happened or if you can’t do that, then ignore it completely

No criticality of administration decisions whatsoever.

And today is the perfect example…

The president moves the POW/MIA flag from the White House to a place no longer visible public, in violation of federal law, and you all rationalize it as a. On issue that is just being used by the “no creditability left” to make the president look like he does not respect POWs.

This despite the fact that the president has a history of disparaging POWs for “getting captured”.

He has a history of explicitly and clearly not respecting POWs.

You never have anything positive to say and what you do spew out is, as pointed out by so many others SO MANY times, is nothing more than a regurgitation of the same ORANGE MAN BAD over and over and over and over again.

The point is not that he changed parties.

The point is the only reason you all are ok with his bullshit is because he ran as a Republican instead of as a democrat.

What party he belongs to is irrelevant to Trump.

Trump does whatever he does for Trump.

But what party he belongs to is everything to you all.. because there is no way in hell you would be defending most of his bullshit if he had a (D) next to his name.

For me, it is sad that he is the governor of VA. I rode with a 1st VA cavalry company as a re-enactor for over four years. During that time we re-enacted the only reenactment Battle of Brandy Station at an antebellum farm (Oatlands?) outside Leesburg in 1992. About 250 mounted cav reenactors participated.

There is a push to remove it from several other fronts, but the guv has been pushing hard to get his Monument Ave destruction and his law to give individual cities the authority to remove finished before he takes on VMI. That’s just my opinion looking on from 600 miles away. I get updates from around the country on removals and damages, about weekly. It’s infuriating what is happening.

Guess she couldn’t get elected at home cause too many people knew her history. Seems to be a pattern. Abrams isn’t from GA, and the newest appointed Senator from GA, Kelly Loffler (SP) is from Indiana. I think there are a dozen or more people running for that seat. Waste of their time and money, she has already bought and paid for it. Another poor little rich girl.

Too bad the attempts to move the Capitol from DC to the middle of the Continental US never happened. Maybe the swamp wouldn’t have gotten so deep. We are seeing now what Ike warned us to beware of. Just saying!

ninja, between the ChiCom Flu and the whole “BLM” thing WBTS Re_enactments are probably soon to be a thing of the past. Even Memorial Services have been severely curtailed. Even the small event we do every year at the Griswoldville Battlefield (Same site for the Bizarre Foods Segment) was canceled by the state. Less than 200 attendees and 18 acres to “Socially Distance” on. City of Dublin Georgia took apart a Memorial to “10 cent” Bill Yopp, a Black Confederate Soldier, because of one (1) complaint to the NAACP. I was instrumental in the placing of that Marker, conducted the Memorial Service, met with the Family and headed up the firing detail. The Family was very appreciative and we spent more time visiting (4+hours) than the Services took. Sad.

  5. Commissar says:

Just to be clear; they could have added another flag for the memorial.,

    They didn’t.

They also moved it to a place no longer visible to the public. That is the crux of the issue. Doing so seemed to be in violation of the law of “displaying” the flag. He is a quote from the law “shall be displayed in a manner designed to ensure visibility to the public.”

    Is time big deal? No.

    Is it disrespectful?

Maybe. Depends of intent. Trump has made it clear he does not have respect for service members who get captured. He does not consider POWs heroes because they go captured and he does not consider that heroic, Period. There is no fucking debate about that. He said it himself.

Would you be defending the act if democrats did it?

They should not have done it.

    It violated the law.

It also was stupid to do at a time when he is under scrutiny for his reported comments about fallen soldiers and Marines.

    • 11B-Mailclerk says:

His comments would also be in line with why Military Members had issue with people who joined the “Peace Committee” as prisoners. This was not in line with their duty as a Soldier, Sailor, Airman, or Marine to I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. Which the author of “the other racist flag” seemed to not understand…not to mention the meaning or racist! From a 1999 article from the SFGATE:

          • rgr769 says:

Well, how about that. Even McCain himself says he wasn’t a hero for being a POW. Personally, I never considered merely being captured by the enemy made one a hero. Some POW’s did behave heroically in captivity. McCain admits he wasn’t one of them. Although he served in a very hazardous job in the Navy, he became a total tool once he made it to the District of Criminals, both in and out of uniform.

“I’ve received scores of letters from young people, and many of them sent me POW bracelets with my name on it. … This outpouring on behalf of us who were prisoners of war is staggering, and a little embarrassing because basically we feel that we are just average American Navy, Marine and Air Force pilots who got shot down,” he wrote in U.S. News in 1973 of his ordeal.”

We could turn it into a drinking game. Anytime Trump says “winning”, “stupid” or best take a drink. Every time Biden strings together random words take a drink.

This would make up for the rest of 2020.

There will only be one or no debates. Gropey Joe’s puppet masters cannot rely on his oratorical skills (assuming he ever had any). They can’t even trust him to coherently read the crap they post on his teleprompter; every other time they let him out of the basement, he comes across like he belongs in a home for the severely bewildered.

Biden will be “ill” or otherwise detained elsewhere. Harris will insist she is the one to debate. “C’mon Don! What’re you afraid of?”

She mentioned a “Harris administration” recently. Oops. She said the quiet part out loud.

Harris is a well known manufacturer of military radios.
Doubt there is a connection to her but……
It bothers me. It’s a Signal thing. I’ll be ok.

The w##d smoke with Rogan might help Biden’s mental state.

Frankly, I never liked that flag. A lot of people made a lot of money off that MIA/POW craze back when it started. Decals, flags, other ‘novelty’ merchandise. Newsletters, magazines, and fundraisers to publicize “sightings” and search for more possible MIAs. I went to visit the Vietnam Memorial once and the thing I most remember about the trip is the souvenir peddlers and their trucks full of POW/MIA crap.

Now I know it’s Capitalism at its finest to make a buck or two off POW/MIAs, like Chuck Norris & Sylvester Stallone, but I don’t have to like it.

    It ain’t Old Glory, folks.
