BLM issues series of demands from businesses in Louisville neighborhood

| August 3, 2020

Another example of the crazy times in which we live, this time coming from Louisville’s NuLu neighborhood. It seems that this part of town has been gentrifying for the last several years. Here’s how Google describes the area;

The hip, affluent East Market District, also known as NuLu, is a dining hub with eateries spanning upscale New American cuisine to casual BBQ, plus stylish bars pouring craft beer and bourbon. Shops sell vintage clothing, women’s fashion, gourmet eats or restored furniture. Contemporary galleries stay open late for the monthly First Friday Hop street party, with art shows, live music, shopping and street food.

Why would BLM take issue with an area of town improving by most objective measurements? We’re told that moving back into the major cities is good. It’s even supposed to be great for the environment.

BLM says;

The residents of Louisville, Kentucky are standing strong, educated, and together to express the destruction your business has caused to low-income communities, specifically those with majority Black residents. We therefore demand representation and reparations in the NuLu business district of Louisville for the gentrification that has taken place. The policies and processes of the revitalization of NuLu has displaced marginalized people from homes their families have often resided for generations, single-handedly progressing the gentrification of Black neighborhoods.

Why are they against gentrification?

Gentrification is a palatable term that sugar coats one more aspect of an oppressive system targeted at Black Folx [sic] for 400 Years. (Emphasis theirs)

In a six-page Marxist screed filled with veiled racism, BLM makes a series of demands on local businesses. After a business owner signs a statement (a contract, in front of a witness) accepting responsibility for many slights in the neighborhood against black people (that they likely had absolutely nothing to do with), they’re told;

  • Front of house staff will be at least 23% Black, including management to start (the letter says that will need to increase in the future – at the rate of a 5% increase every 6 months)
  • Maintain 24% inventory from Black-owned businesses or pay 1.5% of net sales BLM
  • All staff must (at the business owner’s expense) be given “diversity, equity, and inclusion” training
  • Business owners must partake of quarterly roundtable meetings (at their expense) with “Black Womxn” to ensure compliance
  • Remove dress codes (apparently expecting your customers to be adequately dressed is racist)

Some business owners are calling these “mafia tactics” and likening the demands for money in lieu of “protests” is akin to a protection racket. That’s right, these demands include cash “donations” and threats for non-compliance. Local news questions whether these are in fact mafia tactics or legitimate demands.

Business owners are required to post their compliance with these demands. BLM will audit businesses for compliance and issue a grade. Looking much like a health department’s inspection grade, and posted on the front of the business in similar fashion, one of three grades will be assigned;

  • “A” for ally, meaning one has fully “passed” their BLM inspection
  • “C” for complicit, meaning they’re trying, but they’re still a little bit racist
  • “F” for failed, meaning they’re straight up Nazis.

Social Justice Grade

According to the Louisville Courier Journal, some business are actually agreeing to this, likely afraid for their livelihood or their very lives for going against the “peaceful” mob. Those that don’t will be subjected to;

  • “Reduction in racial index score” and a bias report to the Better Business Bureau
  • Social media “blast” (i.e. a social media assault)
  • Boycott – A public, coordinated boycott of the NuLu business and any others they may own
  • “Visible” demonstration/sit-in in front of the business. (They say this will involve the media, and I tend to believe them)

And the final threat is a real doozy;

Invasive Reclamation: Placement of booths/tables outside your establishment where competing Black proprietors will offer items comparable to those offered by you.

There you go. Serves them right for trying to own a small business, create local jobs, and generally improve a neighborhood.

I drove through the rough part of town earlier today. In addition to all the parks now housing dozens of homeless tents and related homeless droppings, I saw one pizza joint all boarded up. The owner had sprayed the only thing on the front that would deter the mob from destroying his/her livelihood; “Black Owned”. Even then, I don’t know if that’d work. Maybe he should have noted that he only hires black people too.

    Payment directly to BLM with an implicit threat in the paperwork, nevermind the implied threat.

    What’s the over and under that BLM’s not reporting that 1.5% income properly. Wouldn’t be the first time the IRS has busted blatant violent criminals.

    Sounds like the New Jersey mafia to me. Leg breakers, everyone of them.

    Glad you posted this. I read another article about a Cuban restaurant owner who was approached by this bunch of extortionists and is trying to decide whether to up stakes and move elsewhere or or just shut down.

    Extortion doesn’t change, but these bozos put it in writing? I thought it was a felony or something. And if it’s so important to them, why could they NOT do the improvements themselves? Just how effing lazy are they?

    African Americans moving into predominantly white neighborhoods, good.

    White people moving into predominantly African American neighborhoods, bad.

    Does Hack have that right?

      Yes he does. It’s reverse blockbusting and you know who

      The assumption that black folks want to live in a slum, not in an improved neighborhood,

      is racist.

      The assumption that black folks can’t live in a nice neighborhood,

      is racist.

      Marxism needs masses of disgruntled downtrodden folks, to forment Revolution. If folks can better themselves and their neighborhood, it exposes the lies of Marxism. It also says “who needs Marxists?”

    Extortion, pure and simple. A tiny percentage of people claiming to represent 13% of the population leading the Socialistic assault on our Country. In Soros’ own words, he said he would use the black people of America to start a race war.

    Get ready little lady, hell is coming to breakfast.

  9. Sparks says:

    The Five Families could learn a thing about extortion from BLM. BELIEVE me, these clowns did not think this up, nor spell it out, figuratively or literally, in those demand statements. This shit comes from big money, far up the line of the Destroy America Campaign.

      RICO their asses… start with that cocksucker Soros first and work your way down the food chain.

  10. Andy11M says:

    This really isn’t any different than the economic extortion that “Rev” Jessie Jackson and “Rev” Al Sharpton have been pulling for decades, this is just a little more crude and blunt. I can’t wait for to see who they go after in their scramble to get in on this. Maybe next they will go through some predominantly white neighborhood making similar demands for payment for the crime of being white, be sure to have you money ready this Wed when the collection agents come through. Sure hope they can make change for a 40 when they come to my house.

  11. SFC D says:

    This will not end well. For anyone. The “gentrified” neighborhoods will burn to the ground, and the remaining businesses will abandon the area. This is slum creation 101, brought to you by the letters B, L, and M.

      Kinda like scorched earth policies. Makes folks leave; just nothing worth occupying.

  12. E4 Mafia '83-'87 says:

    I hear people using the term ‘Mafia’ tactics, and they are incorrect. The Mafia/The Mob/The Syndicate/La Cosa Nostra would never be dumb enough to put anything like that in writing. That ‘contract’ could be evidence in RICO trial.
    I have read elsewhere that a black Cuban restaurant owner stood up to these so-called bullies. The Cuban community rallied around him and is pushing back. Many of these people stood against Castro and braved the open sea on flimsy rafts to make it to America. They aren’t going to be pushed around by these clowns.

Or perhaps it’s someone trolling.

    • Veritas Omnia Vincit says:

      I think the problem for some of these businesses is they can’t be there 24/7 and have to rely on staff to hold down the fort…and those will be the moments that things go south. Especially those small husband and wife shops or 3-8 person small establishments…they lack the resources to fight the kind of fight you’re suggesting sadly.

      Or the simple reality that they’re not going to shoot a hundred people outside their business should a mob show up with bricks to smash their windows…

      None of those people opened a business to go to war with protest groups.

      You open it to provide a better life for your family, as such you sometimes recognize discretion might be the better part of valor and do what’s needed at the moment to avoid the loss of the business.

      That said, the first chance you get to leave that spot and re-open elsewhere you do it and fuck the place you left and the people in it.

      That’s why you have the boarded up neighborhoods where nothing is for sale and no services are available. The business know when they’re not welcome and react accordingly.

      BLM will learn the harsh lesson that the true minimum wage is always zero point zero a lesson everyone who thinks they understand economics needs to learn at some point lest they continue to spot the nonsense of academia at every turn.

  19. Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH B Woodman says:

    And the ghetto dwellers wonder why they live in a “food desert”.

    • Veritas Omnia Vincit says:

      The reality of economics is a harsh lesson for both the ignorant (willful or otherwise) and the terminally stupid.

      No amount of government interference can make up for the fact that business operates out of a selfish motive of profitable gain and not out of any selfless sense of loss for the benefit of community. That latter model isn’t sustainable unless you have Bezos level wealth, and even then the money runs out eventually.

      I still do not understand how we have people in this nation who do not understand the “for profit” model at all, who think that simply because you own a business you must always be flush with cash and have a thick bank account.

      Those who’ve never taken out a second mortgage to cover payroll for several months while business is slow or growing, who’ve never risked anything of their own or their future often seem confused as you point out in your comment as to the why of no businesses in their neighborhoods.

  20. David says:

    Saw in another article that they wanted tech firms to have MININMUM 25% management be black, with that percentage escalating every 6 months. Management positions are a zero sum game, you just don’t make a new management position for no reason. So they want double their population percentage?

    • Veritas Omnia Vincit says:

      It’s how you know it wasn’t written by anyone who even has a basic understanding of small business…

      When people don’t understand the term “burden” in relation to a P & L they can make up fanciful rules about stupid shit like the number of managers the percentage of race distributed amongst the managers and pretend that anyone can become a manager regardless of skill set. The “pay for training” part regularly also indicates a lack of understanding about gross versus net margins and how in a retail establishment especially those margins are often razor thin in the low to mid single digits…the commodity side of our business is often that way, not as bad as the grocery business which was in the neighborhood of about two percent net last time I looked…which is why they don’t re-open the Target once the dumb fucks burn it to the ground…

  21. 11B-Mailclerk says:

    How does that saying go?

    Movement becomes business becomes racket.

    That was quick. Marxists gonna Marxist.

  22. 26Limabeans says:

    At least the Mafia had a code of honor.
    BLM has none whatsoever.
    Black ISIS…It’s not a flower.

  23. HMCS(FMF) ret says:

    These are the people that Lars supports… the Free Shit Army shaking down those that work their asses off. When you don’t do what they want, they intimidate and burn your home or business. They want their version of America at your expense.

    • Ret_25X says:

      and once America becomes Mozambique, Ghana, Angola, it will be not their fault, but yours.

      Marxist ideas are so bad they fail most when they “work”

  24. Veritas Omnia Vincit says:

    In a years time when these businesses, and consequently the people who supported them, are no longer in the neighborhoods anymore they will once again revert to the blights they were prior to the attempt at gentrification.

    Gentrification isn’t a polite term of racism it’s a polite term to indicate that an attempt to revitalize a former shithole is under way.

    When these stupid fucks destroy a Target and the Target doesn’t re-open a year later they piss and moan about the inability of poor people to obtain goods and services in their own neighborhoods. The lack of understanding the relationship between profit and loss is astonishing and speaks directly to our nation’s ever increasing embrace of stupidity and celebrity over intellect and achievement in our culture.

    There’s an easy way to achieve a better life in this country, it’s called taking a risk and working hard.

    It’s always entertaining to me when those who’ve never risked their home or retirement incomes to start a venture want to claim they have some right to the profits of those who did risk it all. As if the risk taker is somehow the bad guy for creating jobs and opportunity.

    Good luck with your schemes you extortionist rat bastards, hope you starve yourselves out sooner rather than later.

      Testify VOV! Happens every.damn.time! Big thing here locally now is that whole, “down town loft apartments with the trendy shops, bars, high dollar eating places, boutiques ect. As it developed the “need more diversity” issue reared its ugly head and taxpayer funds were made available for minority startups. That brought the thugs in to hang out and intimidate the paying patrons. People that could afford to break their leases, or just walk away from them have started doing so. Hizz dishonor, the mayor, instructed the po po to restrict the access to the daily reports to skew the crime figures. Glad I’m 30 miles away from it.
