…Could disappear on its own

By Jackie SaloJune

An Italian infectious disease doctor believes the coronavirus has become less dangerous — and could disappear on its own without a vaccine.

Dr. Matteo Bassetti, the head of the infectious diseases clinic at the San Martino hospital, said the virus appears to have become less potent, possibly due to genetic mutations, the Sunday Telegraph reported.

“The clinical impression I have is that the virus is changing in severity,” Bassetti told the outlet.

“In March and early April the patterns were completely different. People were coming to the emergency department with a very difficult to manage illness and they needed oxygen and ventilation, some developed pneumonia.”But he said in the past month, “the picture has completely changed in terms of patterns.”

“It was like an aggressive tiger in March and April but now it’s like a wild cat,” Bassetti said. “Even elderly patients, aged 80 or 90, are now sitting up in bed and they are breathing without help. The same patients would have died in two or three days before.”

Some good news? See for yourself here: NY Post

Thanks,  AW1 Rod.

Since Thunderstixx is UA, I’ll just leave this here….NOOOOOOOO!!!!! WE’RE DOOOOOOOOOOOMMED!

This does not fit the narrative. The ChiCom Bug must be around until after the election is stolen by mail in ballots, and THEN ONLY be cured by the administration of a Bill Gates approved vaccine.

Dr. Facci appearing to debunk this theory in 5.4.3.2..

I personally do not know anyone who died of COVID-19. I live in a county of about 120,000 residents and we’ve had 45 deaths – most of which occurred in nursing homes with patients in their 70s-90s.

Not making light of the death toll across America, but damn its time to open the economy right quick. And we can’t afford to shut America down again regardless of the recurrence of COVID-19 in the fall.

    • Fyrfighter says:

I have two relatives that dies from the Chi-Com flu, and I still agree with everything you said CCR, this shit needs to end now, and we need to reopen the damn economy!
If we’re actually concerned about the spread of this shit, shut down the riots with all the fleabag potheads that attend them…

Roll your own about the economy opening.

Please help find a way to not lose a bunch more people to something that you can not wish away.
Remember the 120.000 American dead since March 2020.

The disease is projected to kill another 100 Americans before the flu season.

As the screen name implies, I deal with this every shift. The vast majority of the deaths have been elderly with multiple co-morbidities. (In New York, over 50%, in PA, over 80%. If the democrat governors in those states hadn’t mandated that nursing homes take COVID positive patients, the numbers would have been much lower. Without question, those at higher risk should take steps to limit exposure, and everyone should wash their hands. In addition, with as high as 80% of all those infected showing no or minimal symptoms, we have made significant progress toward herd immunity. On top of that, many of those likely to die from it have, as time goes on, you’re left with the healthier members of the population, who are less likely to have serious complications from it. In addition, treatments are advancing, as are methods of supportive care (some details of mechanical ventilation, such as the pressures used, and permissive hypoxia are somewhat counter-intuitive, but have proven to lower mortality rates). I’m not including links, but both the State of Colorado, and El Paso County have detailed information / stats on their websites. The rest of my information has come from what were twice weekly video conferences at the local, and state levels, as well as a number of daily emails from various government and First Responder agencies. Not saying this this doesn’t have the potential to kill people, but the mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence etc associated from extended lockdowns and job loss (many of the numbers are based on historical examples of the great depression and other such instances) has to be part of the equation. Not to mention those dying of otherwise treatable diseases because care was not available due to offices being closed, staff being laid off, or people just being scared to seek care. Lives lost to these causes are no less important than those lost directly to the virus. Then there’s the whole food chain disruption that will eventually factor in as well.

So what’s the source of the next mass panic? “Murder Hornets” has faded, so maybe Mutant Flying Piranha Fish? An attack of Killer Tomatoes?

    • API
Now I saw attack of the killer tomatoes and had it on VHS tape. What a great flick and at the end, I thought that the next flick would be attack of the killer carrots which you saw at the end of the flick leading to speculation that this would be the next knockout flick. Great action with our hero running all over the place with his parachute and the same people running back and forth at different cities where the tomatoes were. Was it music that killed the tomatoes?? I forgot.. Wow what a flick which everyone on TAH should watch it on youtube if it’s still there. How come it didn’t win an oscar???

      • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

“How come it didn’t win an oscar???”

DAMNED if I know, I myself have REFUSED to watch the Oscars ever since “Smokey and the Bandit” didn’t get the Award of Best Picture!!!

    • rgr769 says:

How about attacks by giant mosquitos that can suck all the blood out a human in a few minutes. There is movie with that premise; the mosquitos are the size of turkeys. What could be scarier that that?

      • Blood sucking mosquitos the size of turkeys? Now that’s talking turkey/Grin

        • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

Mosquitos the size of turkeys? The moment they got sighted you’d have every Redneck out there wanting to bag one swearing they’d taste just like chicken!

      • timactual says:

I saw that movie! It’s a documentary. No shit. I was there. Let me tell you about how it all went down. I was only a PFC back then, ……

        • 5th/77th FA says:

No, no, no, it wasn’t a turkey, well, the movie was, and so was the “star.” It was a goose…and the only way it could fly was upside down…and take a gander at that maverick that was all oiled up. Everybody lost that loving feeling when the beach became a danger zone from that volley of balls.

        • rgr769 says:

The movie is called “Mosquito” (1994). The fellow who played Leatherface in the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” does an appearance and reprises his skilz with a chain saw carving some of these giant birds (insects).

For those not wanting to miss this prediction of our next future catastrophe, it is available on Amazon Prime for $3.99. And some of you geezers thought the Corona was scary.

For those who do not want to check the link – here is the bottom line – not going away soon. Pending a therapeutic or vaccine the death toll is going to approach 200 thousand Americans dead before flu season kicks off.
    201,129 COVID-19 deaths
projected by October 1, 2020 the Institute of Health Metrics.
    Prove me wrong

    • OWB says:

The options were to let it run it’s natural course with the risk of overwhelming hospitals OR to flatten the curve allowing the hospitals to deal with fewer people at a time. The same number of people are infected/die either way – quickly or dragging it out over a longer period of time.

What exactly are you arguing about anyway? The surprise is that a doc in Italy has observed something completely unexpected. Should be taken as possible good news if it pans out.

Lots of people don’t seem to understand that what is beneath the curve remains the same whether it is curved or spikey. A friend put it well: You have two gallon jugs of milk – put a hole in each of them but one hole is the size of a quarter while the other hole is the size of a dime. The jug of milk with the larger hole will empty faster but the same amount of milk will be spilled by each of them.

(Some folks seem to want to be upset no matter what.)

      • old88z says:

        @OWB

I understand a lot of people don’t want to be lectured about this topic – I just don’t want to see it blown off, either.

The premise of the post was the coronavirus was going away … based on one anecdotal report.

In relation to that story … I said the virus was not going away soon without a therapeutic or a vaccine. Its killed a bunch of people and is projected to kill a bunch more.

Yes a mutation to a weaker version would be good news. Likewise it could mutate and kill many more. As stated by other posters the virus will sicken and kill people until the population dies or develops immunity or learns how to stifle it.

To your point of getting upset no matter what – yes some people find a crusade and ride it out. I probably sounded pretty strident. The ‘prove my wrong’ was a clumsy attempt to say cite sources that state this virus is going away.

However, my second point here – more implied than clearly stated – was because the virus does not seem to be going away here in the states right now, – let’s try to mitigate the impact.

      • old98z says:

        @OWB
I replied and that reply made it to the moderation queue.
As an infrequent poster I’m guessing that was because of the vpn I was using.
Short reply to your message – yes I was guilty of being strident, but would like to see more than one anecdotal report before getting too optimistic.

FUCK this whole damned Chinese Virus thing, It’s been HOW MANY months now and all the zombies are staying in the deep blue inner cities, THIS PLAGUE SUCKS!!!

    • Ex-PH2 says:

I’m glad they are staying in the inner cities. That means more stuff at the grocery stores for me and my neighbors, and fewer zombie cars on the roads.

  7. Commissar says:

It will not disappear on its own.

Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better.

Until we have herd immunity this is going to be the leading cause of death in the US through spring 2021.

    • Fyrfighter says:

Sorry Commissar, that last statement is so far off as to be laughable. Just this quick snap-shot from CDC shows that:
      https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/leading-causes-of-death.htm
Your other two statements are nothing but supposition, and to this point, not one of the projections from the “experts” has been even close, so there’s no reason to believe that yours will be any closer to the mark.

      • rgr769 says:

He likes to make up his stats. They are whatever Squidward says they are, period.

        • Hondo says:

There’s a technical term for the method he uses to obtain the vast majority of “facts” in his commentary here. That term is rectus extractus.

    • SFC D says:

      Credibility = none

    • HMCS(FMF) ret says:

And you will continue to hope that it hits the Boomer population hard so you and the Free Shit Army get what you feel you’re “entitled” to.

    • Hondo says:

It will not disappear on its own.

Actually, Commissar Wumao (五毛) (AKA Koalemos AKA Poodle AKA Seagull AKA Cthulhu), history argues the opposite.

The virus that caused the 1918-1921 Influenza pandemic did exactly that – e.g., simply disappeared. It’s thought to have infected about 1/3 of the world’s population during the pandemic.

Only 33% immunity in the general population is far too low a fraction to provide herd immunity for a disease with R0 of between 2 and 3. (For evidence, see smallpox – also has an R0 of between 2 and 3, and that virus persisted in humanity until intensive surveillance/vaccination campaigns over a couple of decades eradicated it in the late 1970s.)

Ergo, that means the 1918-1921 influenza virus “fizzled out” largely on its own.

      • Ex-PH2 says:

Per the news report this morning, Hondo, the death rate appears to be dropping, despite an increase in reported infections.

If history is accurate, the Plague that swept through Europe several times in the Middle Ages was much more deadly because it was a bacterial infection, not a virus.

This bug, if the news reports are correct, appears to be weakening.

    • OldManchu says:

      Thanks for the tip Nostradamus.

But what about the remaining 9 years of global warming approaching death?

      • Ex-PH2 says:

Stock your pantry, Old Manchu. If you have a woodburning fireplace, get the chimney cleaned before Autumn comes.

I’m sure you know all that, but just posting a reminder. NASA’s projection based on low solar activity essentially says ‘cold ahead’, not the other way around.

1300 years ago, a man called Beruni made a prophetic statement on the worth of the Indian race

The words of Beruni are prophetic,in this regard.

    – The Hindus believe that there is no country but theirs, no nation like theirs, no kings like theirs, no religion like theirs, no science like theirs.
    – They are haughty, foolishly vain, self-conceited, and stolid.
    – They are by nature niggardly in Communicating that which they know, and they take the greatest possible care to withhold it from men of another caste among their own people, still much more, of course, from any foreigner
