Missing Man

| June 18, 2020

Skippy sends us this article about a reward offered for information on the whereabouts of this troop.  I’m guessing that something has happened to him, rather his going AWOL.

https://www.armytimes.com/news/your-army/2020/06/16/army-offers-25k-for-info-leading-to-soldier-who-vanished-days-before-discharge/

From the article:   Army CID is now offering a reward of up to $25,000 for credible information leading to the whereabouts of Pvt. Gregory Morales, who went missing last summer outside Fort Hood, in Texas.

The soldier was set to be discharged within a couple of days when he disappeared, according to the Army. Despite the reward for the missing soldier, Morales still appears to be listed as a deserter by the Army, with the date of desertion one month after he was last seen.

Morales was last seen driving his personal vehicle off-post in the town of Killeen on the night of Aug. 19, 2019. He was driving a 2018 Black KIA Rio with temporary Texas license tags – 46190B3, according to the Army. The vehicle has since been recovered by authorities.

Morales could also be using the last name Wedel, which was the name he was using prior to his marriage, the Army stated. Morales was born and raised in Oklahoma but he was known to associate with numerous civilians in and around Central Texas.

Army CID officials “are convinced someone knows the whereabouts of Morales and are encouraging people to come forward for the sake of Morales’ wife, step children, mother and fellow soldiers,” the statement reads.

Persons with information can contact Army CID Special Agents at 254-287-2722 or the Military Police Desk at 254-288-1170.

Officials are still encouraging those with credible information to contact Army CID through their web-based crime tip submission site.

Those who wish to remain anonymous “will be honored to the degree allowable under the law and the information will be held in the strictest confidence allowable,” Army CID stated. – article

Friend

Thanks for adding Vanessa’s missing case…

Skippy

I definitely makes you wonder what the hell is going on here
Thanks for adding this Lars I totally forgot
About this case I wonder if these two are related???? Per a local paper I has stunned
How similar these cases are in the fact the both are from hood

Crazy stuff

A Proud Infidel®™

Some crazy shit, I hope he turns up alive and well.

If someone has kidnapped this guy, offer an exchange of sorts. One Lars and two packs of smokes. Relieve ourselves of three cancers at the same time.

Sorry Ex….but wasn’t it just yesterday I recalled, “A leopard never changes its spots”?
Likewise did we not go through this just recently where Lars was all of a sudden being a nice guy? Didn’t last long did it? His behavior would be classified as manic depressive in anything resembling a medical journal. I won’t mention him again while he is on his temporary peak. The only real problem we have with him is all a matter of religion. He gets P. O. because we won’t worship him.

One would find it odd that these two soldiers from the same post came up missing, albeit 6 or so months apart. But then again, Ft Hood has how many people in and around the Post/town? 20-30K? I would venture to say that these two most probably met with foul play of some sort. Lot’s of empty space to hide bodies out there and it’s not too far to the border. Just saying. Here’s hoping that they are found, preferably safe, but to at least let the families know what happened.

We had a troop that didn’t return from leave, carried him as AWOL then deserter on the Morning Report for awhile. Finally a letter to his home of record came back stating he had been murdered by a jealous new boyfriend of what he thought was his fiancee’. Higher was embarrassed by the wording of the initial letters and had to send more correspondence praising him as the good soldier that he was. It was an administrative nightmare in addition to the heartlessness of the way it was handled.

A number of these young men were lost and never accounted for. Another of my planned stops. At least this one is now open for business.

Hondo

Two soldiers disappearing during a one-year period might not be out of line for a post the size of Hood, 5/77.

The Army’s authorized end-strength in 2019 was 487,500. One source I’ve seen says Hood has around 40,000 troops. That’s over 8.2% of the Army – nearly 1 of every 12 soldiers – so one would expect Hood to have a similar fraction of desertions

From 2006-2014, the Army averaged about 2,500 deserters a year. Since the Army is somewhat smaller now and there’s less prospect of hostile action than a few years ago, let’s assume around 1,500 deserted last year. Under that assumption, 8.2% of desertions during 2019 would be about 123.

It seems plausible to me that in a given year, one or two of those 120+ deserters might have either decided to “get lost” and start a new life or met with a tragic end while on the move. But I could be wrong, and for their families’ sake I hope I am in this case.

Tanks Hondo. Good to have some numbers. After I posted I thought that my figures might be a little low, not thinking about the size of Hood v the local Posts here in GA. Would not think that these two would be an AWOL or desertion case, hence my theory on foul play. The guy had only a few days left and he’d be gone. And Ms Thang Troopette? She’s a cutie pie that has probably gotten accosted by some nefarious individual and her bones are bleaching somewhere in the surrounding desert. I hope I’m wrong.

But then again, if either one of them had to serve under an officer the likes of the resident spapos seagull, I could understand them going UA or even suck starting a Remington 870…or fragging his sissy punk asinine piece of sh^t seagulled azzhole.

OWB

Doubt this will end well, but will be most grateful to be proven wrong.

Prayers up for the families involved.

There was a missing Soldier at Hood or Ft Sam a few years ago that they found a few months later on post in his car. It had went off the road and crashed in a wooded area and was not visible from the road.

I had a guy I worked with that never finish out processing the Army. He went home to burn his leave before his final out processing date and never went back.

He blindsided me with the I’m AWOL I guess remark out of the blue. Freaked me out, I was in the Reserves at the time and helped him get his shit taken care of. He wasn’t listed as AWOL, they just finished out processing him at the time, without a signature from him on the paperwork.

People do weird stuff all the time, so you never know…..

This soldier’s car somehow got to Dallas and into the hands of what sounds like a used car dealer (if Carfax is what lead the investigators to it).

So either the dealership can confirm the car was sold to them by the missing soldier – and the date it occurred – or they can give a pretty good description of the person or persons not the missing soldier who sold it to them.

Either way, they have leads of some sort.

“I’m not believing my son is completely innocent in anything at all, but he still deserves to come home. I just think he just got mixed up with the wrong people and something happened,” Wedel said.

The Soldier’s mother knows her son was involved with the “wrong crowd.” Most likely the reason for his discharge.

On a side note: I always feel sorry for the young Soldier who marries a woman with children and viola a family is formed. Really makes it hard to start a new life once you’re a civilian.

Skippy

Crazy we had a solider is Germany
Who was sprung on the cat and
throw out a great military career
This is definitely a possibility

” out processing from the Army and was scheduled to be discharged within a couple of days when he disappeared.”

Reminds me of a guy I knew at Ft. Benning many moons ago. Nice guy, E5, owned a shiny new Corvette, and had less than 90 days to ETS. We were hanging around with “the wrong crowd” at the time, and he got overly interested in drugs. Recreational drugs were very chic back then. Didn’t see him for a couple of months. When I did see him again he was a mess. Lost about 20 pounds, looked like shit, his shiny new Corvette had been impounded, he had been AWOL for a couple of months past his ETS, he was homeless, and he lived by petty theft.

I still think about him and the rest of that “wrong crowd” occasionally, especially when I hear folks say drugs should be legalized.

Commissar

Yeah, that is an odd case. Seems no answers or explanation was ever found. Just ended up in a coal shoot.

SFC D

Theory was he ended up on the train in El Paso, got dumped in the bin with the coal. Never heard much after he was found though.

Amen! I was afraid that this would end up this way.
