National Guard Kicked Out of a DC hotel

An Army National Guard unit returned to the hotel that they were staying in. They received the news. They had to pack their gear and check out of the hotel. They just come back from a mission involving crowd control. The city has been holding those rooms for National Guard… Serving in support of coronavirus response.
The Army National Guard unit complied and relocated. The Army is looking to move funds dedicated to drills and field training exercises in order to support National Guard lodging accommodations.
From military Times:
The soldiers had been staying at the Marriott Marquis, in downtown D.C. and across the street from the district’s convention center, where Guardsmen were meant to sleep while working in local hospitals or in the COVID-19 overflow facility in the convention center itself.
“It was very sudden to me, too,” McCarthy said. “I heard about it this morning. It was not communicated to us directly.”
McCarthy said the Army will be tapping into funds that are generally used to support drill periods and field exercises to cover Guard troops’ expenses while they’re in D.C. Utah is one of 11 states that has sent troops to help with crowd control during the past week of protests.
Bowser followed up Friday morning by sending a letter to President Trump requesting the withdrawal of out-of-state National Guard troops from the district. As D.C. is a federal territory, the federal government can request troops from other states, but the mayor has no control of their mobilization.

The Nasty Guard should encamp on the National Mall with tents, generators, field kitchens, ROWPU, laundry/shower, ECPs, etc. The tourists will get a kick out of seeing Soldiers doing Army shit and the Nasty Guardsman won’t soften up like the civilians staying at the Marriott Marquis.
Aren’t there plenty of bases in the D.C. area where they could encamp if necessary? Seems like they could erect their tents there and move into town by convoy or even helicopter airlift if it comes to it.

One one hand, I never got put up in a Hotel in my interim years of Guard or Reserve, we always either slept on out tracks, issued a shelter half, or were given some shitty 1940’s barracks with a building number that started with a “T-” on a far flung part of whatever base we were near.
Other hand, if the Mayor doesn’t like the politics of our Troops being in DC, maybe they should all be pulled out and let her deal with what happens next.

Perhaps wrong on this point, but understood that the mayor/city was paying for the accommodations. Not that it matters all that much, but it does put a slightly different spin on things.
Read that too, OWB, the city was paying the rooms for them. Guess it was ok that the initial Guard was for Chinesecommunist Originated Virus Infecting Disease help, but any help in oppressing rioters/looters would be raycisss. And, as others pointed out, when the burn baby burn hits the Honorable Mayor’s house/hood, who you gonna call?
IMHO, the Guard needs to be told of a creditable threat to Hiz (Dis)Honor and move him to an undisclosed location for his safety.

I just find it very funny that they would have been put up in hotels. We never got into hotels when we did field duty in the Corps. If they sleep on da ground, I find it hard to be too upset about that.
