Zerlina Maxwell; women don’t need guns to prevent rape
Zerlina Maxwell, a Democrat strategist, told some folks on Fox news last night that women don’t need guns to prevent rape – they only need to convince men not to rape them. From the Washington Times;
“I want women to be able to protect themselves, yes, but I want women to not be in this situation,” she said.
“We can prevent rape by telling men not to commit it,” she repeated. “If firearms were the answer, then the military would be the safest place for women and it’s not.”
Again with the “military all carrying guns” bullshit. For one thing, I’m not buying this shit about all of the men in the military are preying on women. I think these anti-war idiots are using this to demean the troops because we’re never supposed to question rape. They tried to call the troops baby-killers, they’ve tried the “crazy vet” thing that worked so well in the 70s and 80s and neither of those worked, so now they’re trying to make everyone in uniform out to be a rapist. I’m not saying rape doesn’t happen, but it doesn’t happen as often as we’re led to believe.
And if talking men into not raping would work so well, why haven’t the laws and all of the Law & Order: SVU episodes worked?
Yeah, I think there’s a war against women and it’s coming from the ideological Left who don’t mind that women might die because of their opposition to guns.

I actually watched this blubbering idiot and her insane reasoning. Her reason for preventing CCW from being allowed was “women should have the freedome of choice. Women should be free to not have to shoot their attacker.” She goes on to say that she was attacked by someone she knew, and if CCW were legalized, she would have had to shoot him and she didn’t want to.

Absolutely. There is no need for recourse to violence. Just let the rapist know that he is making a grievous mistake, that when you said no, you meant no. If that doesn’t work, tell him that you’re a Democrat, that you really want to help him, and that you understand that it is society and the economic system that’s to blame, not him. Offer him a nice cup of tea. If he says yes, when you go to the drawer to get a spoon, pull out a knofe and plunge it into his throat. One of these approaches is bound to work.

Is there an assumption that our military is always packing heat? I’ve heard numerous comments that seem to indicate that belief. It’s not like we let people take those scary black rifles home at night. Even transporting them from the armory to the range doesn’t generally involve having any rounds handy.
I went through the Army’s Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) courses last year. One thing that stood out to me is the number of sexual assaults our instructor (a retired MSG who helped set up the SHARP program at DA) shared. Notice I typed “sexual assault”, not “rape”. In my eleven years of service, I’ve only heard of a handful of instances of actual rape, and almost all of those on the news. Granted, as an 11B I haven’t worked with a lot of women, but our instructor told us there is a surprising number of male on male assaults. I haven’t heard of any in my units, but hey, he’s the SME. As a less-than-sensitive male I am of the opinion that the Army’s definition of “sexual assault” can be over-reaching. As a certified SHARP professional and an NCO, however, I would treat anyone that meets the definition of a victim compassionately and without judgement. Our instructor shared one story of a female who exchanged fellatio for a ride to Salsa Night in Iraq. After a few weeks, the driver got his buddies involved, then decided to start charging them. The female found out about the money, reported her “assault” to the SARC, and the male Soldiers were investigated for sexual assault. Never mind that it was entirely consensual until she found out about the money, she stopped consenting when she didn’t get a cut and they may have lost their careers because of it. A lot of sex-based crimes and assaults that occur in the military are committed by people in positions of power. Drill instructors (e.g. Lackland AFB last year), senior NCOs (the SGM that got busted to SPC years ago for violating General Order 1B after taking pictures of unclothed female SSGs), and even senior officers (the charges against BG Sinclair). In short, we (the Armed Forces) take a zero-tolerance stance on the matter, so of course the number of cases is going to be higher.
