Swallowswell strikes again

Eric Swalwell,  D-CA, is desperately trying to keep his mug in the news, no doubt hoping it will help him sweep the Dem nomination four years hence. And it’s a beaut:

Swalwell took to social media Monday morning to declare that Trump has had “more planes crash” in his first month in office than any other U.S. president. He then doubled down on the comment with a blunt statement to Fox News Digital.

“Trump is President. President Trump is in charge of air safety. All crashes are Trump’s fault,” he said.

30 days in office,  not even a full calendar month, and Trump is somehow responsible for a small plane crash in Georgia. Does he really mean that old “no sparrow shall fall” applies to Trump? The next step in THAT logical chain would light up Eric’s life… but we’ll let that go for now. Maybe look at 4 years ago?

Swalwell’s claim also appears to be false, according to data from the National Transportation Safety Board’s CAROL database. According to the catalog, there have been five fatal aviation incidents since Trump took office. The database shows 10 fatal incidents over the same period for President Biden’s term, however.

Georgia’s crash saw a single-engine airplane take off from the Covington Municipal Airport at 11 p.m. on Saturday. Ground control lost communication with the plane roughly 20 minutes later, at which point police officers located the plane crashed near the runway.

Yep, we’ve seen that kind of crash a million times – small private plane takes off, has an issue at too low an altitude to recover….DAMN the President for not checking his fuel line. Blast Trump for not giving enough altitude.

Wife mentioned she had seen one in which someone blamed Trump for the inverted Ottawa crash (which everyone survived. Now THAT was a miracle.) Even if there was a logical connection between firing probationary air traffic controllers and the recent crashes… little hard to blame the FAA for a crash in Canada, isn’t it? At least the White House response was not the word salad of years immediately preceding…more of a verbal bitch slap.

White House communications director Steven Cheung tore apart Swalwell in a statement reacting to his claim.

“Swalwell must be taking his orders from Fang Fang or suffering from a severe debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome because there is no other reason anyone with a functioning brain would make that that type of false and disgusting claim. He is a complete disgrace not only as an elected official, but as a human being who has continued to beclown himself,” Cheung said.  Fox News

My first intro to Cheung… I am favorably impressed.
