American Legion responds to DHS’ unwarranted fear of veterans
A friend of ours in the deep southland sends us the letter that the American Legion national commander, David K. Rehbein sent to Department of Homeland Security secretary Janet Napolitano in response to the report that TSO wrote about yesterday which expressed an unwarranted fear of us right-wing veterans. The letter reads;
Dear Secretary Napolitano,
On behalf of the 2.6 million-member American Legion, I am stating my concern about your April 7 report, “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence and Recruitment.”
First, I want to assure you that The American Legion has long shared your concern about white supremacist and anti-government groups. In 1923, when the Ku Klux Klan still yielded unspeakable influence in this country, The American Legion passed Resolution 407. It resolved, in part, “…we consider any individual, group of individuals or organizations, which creates, or fosters racial, religious or class strife among our people, or which takes into their own hands the enforcement of law, determination of guilt, or infliction of punishment, to be un-American, a menace to our liberties, and destructive to our fundamental law…”
The best that I can say about your recent report is that it is incomplete. The report states, without any statistical evidence, “The possible passage of new restrictions on firearms and the return of military veterans facing significant challenges reintegrating into their communities could lead to the potential emergence of terrorist groups or lone wolf extremists capable of carrying out violent attacks.”
The American Legion is well aware and horrified at the pain inflicted during the Oklahoma City bombing, but Timothy McVeigh was only one of more than 42 million veterans who have worn this nation’s uniform during wartime. To continue to use McVeigh as an example of the stereotypical “disgruntled military veteran” is as unfair as using Osama bin Laden as the sole example of Islam.
Your report states that “Rightwing extremists were concerned during the 1990s with the perception that illegal immigrants were taking away American jobs through their willingness to work at significantly lower wages.” Secretary Napolitano, this is more than a perception to those who have lost their job. Would you categorize union members as “Right Wing extremists”?
In spite of this incomplete, and, I fear, politically-biased report, The American Legion and the Department of Homeland Security share many common and crucial interests, such as the Citizen Corps and disaster preparedness. Since you are a graduate of New Mexico Girls State, I trust that you are very familiar with The American Legion. I would be happy to meet with you at a time of mutual convenience to discuss issues such as border security and the war on terrorism. I think it is important for all of us to remember that Americans are not the enemy. The terrorists are.
He had a lot more control than I would – I guess that’s why he’s the commander. I hope he addresses that racist hate group the Southern Poverty Law Center’s participation in this farce some day.
I have a favorite quote from Samuel Johnson that addresses this very same subject in his 18th century book “The Patriot”;
“It is the quality of patriotism to be jealous and watchful, to observe all secret machinations, and to see publick dangers at a distance. The true lover of his country is ready to communicate his fears, and to sound the alarm, whenever he perceives the approach of mischief. But he sounds no alarm, when there is no enemy; he never terrifies his countrymen till he is terrified himself. The patriotism, therefore, may be justly doubted of him, who professes to be disturbed by incredibilities…”

The Legion commander did show some pretty good restraint. I would have started the letter with You Halfwitted Doofus and gone downhill from there. But then I’m just a right wing deranged vet because I don’t like high taxes and out of control spending.
[…] Read it. […]
Appears, the guy that wrote the report makes a buck off of there being “Right Wing Extremists”. Even worked at a “Center for Some Liberal BS” at Cal State.

You guys are aware there was report written just like this regarding Left Wing Extremists in January.
JEAN….then link the report.
#4
Please provide a link to the report.
There are reports about specific Left-Wing terror groups (ALF, ELF, etc.) but nothing approaching the catch-all “right-wing” label that appears in this report. This is not a document about any one specific group, it’s a hit piece on conservatives.
Unless, of course, Jean can link a similar document aimed at the left.
Provide a link to the report. If you don’t have the link you’re a monkey and a liar.
The Left constantly accused Bush and Cheney of manipulating the color-coded homeland security alert system to squelch their incessant, risible groans of alleged civil rights abuses post 9-11. The accusation was dubious at best. There is little doubt, however, that Team Obama is now cynically politicizing the DHS, which issued this vague report in an effort to conjure images of nameless/faceless right-wing groups hovering in the shadows – all on the eve of the tea party demonstrations. Real classy, Obama. Just like Chicago.
To Jean,
Yes, there was. However it referenced specific groups such as eco-terrorists, animal rights groups etc. that have committed terrorist acts in the past.
This report is very general and basically says that anyone that is upset with the government is a radical.
Therefore your attempt at comparing the two reports is inane.
Stewed Hamm hit the bullseye….which we all already knew.
I don’t think we’ll be hearing JEAN anymore today.

Who was that guy who assassinated President Kennedy?
Oh yeah… that would be the Cuban loving commie who also happened to be a former Marine: Lee Harvey Oswald.
And who was that racist preacher who Presidnet Obama spent 20 years in his church, until he threw him under the pews.
Oh yeah, Black Nationalist loving commie nut6 who also happned to be a former Marine: Jeremiah Wright.

-Speaking as a right-wing, honorably-discharged, well-armed, combat veteran, let the record show that I do not, in any manner, advocate the violent over-throwing of this idiotic, incompetent, fascist-socialist administration with which we are currently attempting to tolerate.
In other news I just saw over at thehill.com A federal appeals court ruled that Murtha has immunity from the Haditha defamation lawsuit.
With a report like this, you’d have to believe about the only appropriate governmental response would be the formation of a domestic army and the funding of democracy monitoring groups like ACORN. I’m sure they’ll be on the look out for signs of anti-American behavior during the census.
…so in essence, it’s listed any group who may protest having their property siezed or their Second Amendment rights infringed upon or that actually has the audacity to reject being taxed into oblivion to pay for the Teleprompter-in-Chief’s ponzi schemes?

Well… not only do the commies and the fascist bastards at Homoland insult all vets and all right-wing or conservative citizens – BUT – they show the typical elitist stupidity which comes with living in a drug-induced delusional reality, i.e., if you *really* want to piss off a group of people, then go ahead and piss off well trained, combat experienced, well armed citizens who are frustrated at seeing marxists taking over their country, who do not cower in the face of ‘authority’, and who don’t fear giving their lives for love of their country. Yep! THAT will work.
BTW – let’s take a vote – which group has KILLED more Americans in the last five years, or ten years – conservative, right wing patriots OR muslim terrorists?
Now – which ones does Kenyan presidential pretender Obongo – himself a muslim – want to devote US taxpayers resources to propagandizing about and spreading hatred toward?

But wait. Aren’t the current Socialists in power trying to foster class strife right now? “Rich” v “Poor”? Sure they are. And as such they are a “un-American, a menace to our liberties, and destructive to our fundamental law”. The Americal Legion should therefore oppose these Socialists. Which would make the AL “subversives” trying to destroy our current “leaders”. So I guess the report was accurate.
But what we need is more people to be against these Socialists. Since the Socialists in power now have sworn to preserve and protect the Consititution and are doing everything in their power to destroy it they should all be arrested for Treason.
Us veterans swore an oath “to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and to bear true faith and allegiance to the same.” Since the Democrats consider the Constitution to be a “flawed” and “extreme” document that needs to be thrown out, they classify any of us who believe in it to be “right wing extremists.”
Conservatives are “Haters” Now…

I find it ammusing that poeple like Jean try as hard as they can to justifyu speculation (which is what this DHS report is) to the truth as the reports earlier from DHS on ELF, ALF, and others to all be the same.
I also would like to know just what is Jack Bauer impling here. yes there are a few bad apples from the Marine Corps in history. However one can find bad apples every where. Is it because Jack knows that “Marine” is the only title you will ever earn, and he has not earned it?

devious — I apologize if I inadvertantly insulted the USMC — or any proud veteran. That was not my intent. I was merely trying to reflect on the absurd libel of a DHS slime job which tries to associate veterans with alleged “right” (meant to encompass conservatives) wing hate groups.
You made the point I was trying to make, that just because you can always find bad apples, that proves nothing.
I kind of scared myself last year during the campaign when I speculated openly about the take over of America that the Democrats might try if they won everything there was to win. I mean, I even decided to calm down, relax, take it easy, give the “guy” a chance and see what he does. I’m getting that nervous in the service feeling again, only this time with factual reason. This DHS report which is downright frightening in what it is trying to allude to; the comments by the Attorney General regarding the “assault weapons ban”; indebting generations of Americans in the name of government ownership of American businesses; the constant talk of a re-introduction of “Fairness Doctrine” law to muzzle conservative and Christian talk radio and…where is this going to end. What makes it really galling is that the main stream media fawning of Pres. Obama during the campaign hasn’t really shown much sign of diminishing and continues to propogandize main stream America into apathy and complacency that Big Government has everything under control and the Ship of State has been righted. These Democrats are very, very arrogant in their positions and viewpoints and are certain that they, as socialists/marxists will have everything wrested from us before we know what happened, and to resist or defame their efforts is the new definition of treason. Let me see…Adolf Hitler rebuilt Germany his way by instilling his version of national pride…Karl Marx and Joseph Stalin defined their country’s version of patriotism by simply “disappearing” millions of those who didn’t quite see things their way. This is a very small planet we live on, and what is brought about my humans in one country decades ago can and will happen again when like-minded humans are at the helm. I never though of myself as a dissident but apparently I am on the verge of fitting that criteria under this government. Veteran of the military and police, gun owner, free-enterprise minded, concerned about illegal immigration, concerned about tax payer funding of euthenasia…er, I mean abortion. I might as well lock myself up now… Read more »
