Clinton’s “medical episode”
A number of media outlets have claimed that Hillary Clinton left the ceremony at 9/11 Memorial Plaza this morning because of a “medical episode”. From Fox News;
[Fox reporter, Rick] Leventhal said his source watched Clinton as she was standing on a street curb with her security detail while waiting for her motorcade.
As the motorcade was not expecting her as early as she had left, Leventhal said, the Democratic presidential nominee stood for two or more minutes awaiting the vehicles.
When the motorcade approached, Clinton “stumbled off the curb and appeared to faint” as she got into her van.
Clinton appeared to need assistance getting into the vehicle, Leventhal said, losing her shoe.
An aide grabbed the shoe as her van pulled away and gave it to the next vehicle in her motorcade.
Her staff said that she was “overheated” – at 10 AM, the temperature was about 78 degrees in New York City.
On Election Day, she’ll be 69 years old (October 26, 1947). Remember that Democrats told us that Dick Cheney was too old to be Vice President – he was 59 years old on Election Day, 2000 (January 30, 1941) – he left office a few days before he turned 68 years old..

Not sure that’s correct, D. Snopes says that the allegation Clintoon is tailed everywhere she goes by someone carrying a diazepam injector is “Unproven”, not “False”.
Based on the photos Snopes provides, it’s likely not Dr. Okunola who’s following her around with one. But if anyone is constantly following around a candidate for POTUS carrying a diazepam injector out of medical necessity, that’s something that’s indeed fair game for discussion. Ditto the reason why.

No, it has never happened. There is no constitutional issue at all. There will be a quick DNC meeting and they will select a new nominee.

Many states ban ballot changes after a certain date. I don’t believe that date is uniform among the states.
If she (or Trump, or any other candidate) were to croak or withdraw after a particular state’s deadline, by law they could not be replaced on that state’s ballot for POTUS. That means the replacement candidate would have to run as a write-in candidate.
I REALLY don’t want to see that kind of a goat-rope in a US election for POTUS. And I’m pretty sure we’re getting close to that deadline in many states, and may have passed it in some already.

They have been. The highest office in which this happened, I believe, was the House of Reps when Patsy Mink was re-elected while dead. Many local and state pols have been elected and re-elected while dead. I had no idea how frequently this has occurred until I read your question and Googled.
Don’t forget the Dead Senator from Missouri. He appeared on the ballot after his demise (MO law precluded ballot changes after a particular date, and the guy died 2 weeks prior to the election).
He was the serving Governor of Missouri when he died – and a Democrat. His Lieutenant Governor and successor (from same party, of course) announced that if the dead guy won, he’d appoint the dead guy’s wife Senator to fill his place.
The dead guy won, and his wife was appointed to serve as Senator. His opponent had suspended campaigning after his opponent had died in a plane crash, and paid the price for his decency. The sympathy factor allowed the dead guy (whose wife would serve in his place if he “won” the election) to be elected in a close race.
She served in the US Senate for 2 years. She then lost in a special election.

In regard to VP if she drops post-election, there is no provision for that. Gerald Ford was Nixon’s replacement for Spirow Agnew. When Tricky Dick left office, Ford had no VP in place. It would be necessary in a full 4-year term to select a new veep candidate.

My guess is no matter if Hillary drops before or after the election her followers will vote for her. If she wins but dies before taking the oath, Democrats will insist Kaine is the VP-elect and will take the oath of office for VP and then will take the oath of office for President which is vacant.

Well, Kaine would be the VP-elect, if shrillary wins. It IS that simple, so yes, he’d go right up the ladder immediately. The real question is who becomes his replacement as VP? As I said, when Ford succeeded Nixon, he did not have a VP.

The 20th Amendment seems to govern this situation. If the POTUS-elect dies after being elected, you’re clearly correct; in that case, the “President-elect” has died after being selected, and the VP-elect takes office. However, it’s not clear what happens in the event that a candidate dies before they are elected.
Should that happen, I will guarantee this ends up dumped in the lap of the SCOTUS to decide. And there appears to be a damn good chance of a 4-4 deadlock there.
Let’s hope that doesn’t happen, because God only knows what might happen. I would not rule out the prospect of widespread civil unrest – or worse – in that eventuality, regardless of who eventually became POTUS.

Will the courts side with the dems? I would imagine this would be fast-tracked to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. The Chief judge of that court is Merrick Garland, nominated for SCOTUS by Buh-rock. There are 11 active judges, 4 put there by Buh-rock, 3 put there by Clintoon, and 3 put there by W and 1 put there by
GHW Bush. I think it’s safe to assume that the DNC would get pretty much any ruling from them that they wanted.
That decision would probably be appealed to a SCOTUS which would probably vote 4-4 to either not hear the decision, or would vote the same, letting the lower court ruling stand.

The SCOTUS has original and exclusive jurisdiction over all disputes between states (Article III, Section 2 of the US Constitution and 28 USC 1251). The POTUS is formally elected by the Electoral College. However, the Electoral College is composed of electors who are in turn are selected by the individual states.
Should one of the candidates die or choose to step down after deadlines, some states would support either side of the dispute. My “take” is that this would trigger sending the matter to the SCOTUS for decision as a dispute between states.

Well, some of that coughing has been rather obvious, and there is such a thing as ‘walking’ pneumonia. You aren’t sick enough to be in bed, but you cough a lot.

Well, “walking” pneumonia usually doesn’t last months or years. Especially when you have a private doc.
I had walking pneumonia myself once and it hit me within hours of being infected. I went from being totally fine to suddenly curled up on my couch freezing with no energy to get up for more than 30 seconds. The bad part was only about 2 days, got over it after about a week and back to normal.
I think her camp will make any excuse to deflect from the real medical issues she’s got.
Trump needs to find one of those 100 degree halls to have a debate in like happened to the republicans and see how long he can make it last.

Almost everyone reading here at TAH has had training in how to deal with heat exhaustion and the first principle is to do whatever you can to cool the subject down. In this case, that first principle would have required one of Hillary’s handlers to remove her jacket.

I think the concerns with Dick Cheney were because of his heart condition – he had had multiple heart incidents before he was picked for VP. That was a valid concern, but not that major since he was VP and there is a mechanism for replacing a VP should the position become vacant (Jerry Ford selecting Nelson Rockefeller for example).
That was my recollection as well. I could remember the media raising health issues regarding Cheney, but I couldn’t recall with certainty whether they’d also made Cheney’s age an issue.
Of course, the media didn’t seem to consider a history of severe heart disease an issue for LBJ – who’d had a major heart attack in 1955, 5 years before running for VP. Nor did the media make a huge issue of JFK’s health issues, which were perhaps even more serious (In addition to his back issues, he had Addison’s disease plus hypothyoridism).

Politico says it was pneumonia, but she’s all better now. I’ve had pneumonia a couple of times and it never did that to me. Mostly, it affected me at night, not in the morning.

That’s one I had forgotten about. I stayed at home basically quarantined when I had walking pneumonia for a few days to not spread it at all.
And when I had it, 3 days later in the morning I didn’t require someone to carry me and then in the afternoon have no problems whatsoever.

I treated patients with these before, they are normally short lived events and the patient is back to their normal self after.

Many times, if the doc can get a bolus of drugs into the patient early, it’s as if it never happened.
The first TIA that I treated was exhibiting classic stroke symptoms, before we could transport her; she regained her normal self and was oriented to person, place and time. It really messed with my mind. I tried to get her to go to the hospital but she refused, she said she had these episodes on a regular basis.
Looked like a spasm to me. The pneumonia diagnosis was designed to address the coughing fits she’s had. They had to roll it out today due to this event. Only cover story available at the time, I suspect.
