Daniel Beckham aka Daniel Rodas begs to be made famous, won’t you help?

| March 10, 2014

Beckham

I may be the only guy in America happy when a turd falls into his lap. Daniel Beckham is just such a peanut-encrusted turd.

Spoke with a concerned party in Los Cerritos, California this morning. Which is fun to say.  Los Cerritos.   Anyway, it seems that the above pictured chap has been into some shady shit. Let’s start with the account from HIS side.

Members of the Cerritos College Police Department took former US Marine Daniel E. Beckham, a former student and part time employee at Cerritos College, into custody on Thursday morning and is being held on a $25,000 bond.

Beckham has been transferred to Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail where he is being held on eight felony counts on destruction of government property.

[Added on edit]  Beckham survived two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and was actually wounded in Iraq and is a “Wounded Warrior.”

Basically he went into the school’s computer system and played Monkey Throws Poop with various grades. He got caught. But we must excuse him because he is a combat veteran. We know that from the Change.org petition to let America’s Latest Hero walk:

Daniel is an honorable, decorated Marine Corps veteran who diligently attended school at Cerritos College as a pre-med student and in the Disabled Students Programs and Services Department.

Just how heroic? That’s unclear, but we do get this:

Beckham is also a decorated war veteran who served in the US Marines in both Iraq and Afghanastan [sic] from 2007 to 2010.

OK, everyone get your shocked face ready.

Medals he is entitled to per fleet marine reserve: Marine Select Reserve Medal. National Defense Service Medal. /fullstop.

Actual Discharge: OTH

So let’s just start with a round of, “who can identify the ribbons” and we’ll go from there.  He has some pretty awesome Eric Estrada hair, but you can’t just be making stuff up there super troop.

Yup, bottom left looks like GWOT-E

Pineywoods NCO

Sure is. Now, I have to ask this idiot some questions.

Where’s your battle stars for the ICM and ACM?

When did you serve to earn the GWOTEM?

When you can answer those questions, let me know.

Drew

I can’t say for the ACM, but the star is only authorized for particular years of OIF. I was there from ’07-’08, and we didn’t rate a star.

Pineywoods NCO

Drew

The stars are not years. They indicate campaign stages, or time periods, of both the ICM and the ACM. If you were there for 30 days, you get either and at least one star to boot. I was there twice. 2004 and 2008-09. I was in four different periods of the Iraqi Campaign. I was awarded four campaign stars to my ICM and I have my DD-214 to back me up. You were there when? Check out the info on the ICM and you have qualified for at least one if not two.

Hondo

Agree with all except maybe the HSM. The HSM has lightish-blue stripes next to the dark center stripe, and the one he’s wearing seems to have a different light-colored stripe there. Could be false-color on the photo, though – and I don’t have a better idea.

BG!!

I believe what you think is the HSM is actually the NATO ISAF. But, I also agree with an earlier comment. Where is the star on the ICM and ACM? Turd and a half!

ArmyATC

Yep. GWOTEM and GWOTSM. Going by his rack, he is claiming to have been deployed three times. He has the Afghan and Iraq campaign medals. The GWOTEM couldn’t be given for the same period of service.

Sparks

Thanks Thomas Gerle. Except for the NDSM all the others are way after my time, plus not being Navy or Marine myself. I would have had to Google all the images. Thanks again.

Bobo

He’s also missing the NATO medal that would have been awarded with the Afghanistan Service Medal. I’d think that, given his at least three deployments based on his medals (1x Iraq, 1x Afghanistan, and 1x somewhere in the AOR for the GWOT Expeditionary) he’d have an OSR in there, also.

Hondo

Bobo: don’t think the USMC does the OSR – believe that’s Army only.

ArmyATC

If he got into the school based on his accounts of being a disabled veteran, would that count?

OldSoldier54

Seems like a tangible benefit to me, but who knows, legally.

NHSparky

I know that CA has a program that lets the spouse/children of disabled veterans attend any public college (including CSU/UC system schools) tuition-free, even if it’s just a 0-percent disability rating.

I would imagine that a similar situation exists for the veteran themselves…so yeah, getting a break for that could very well fit under SV.

MGySgtRet

Lying POS. Honorable my ass. It looks like he is only wearing the NDSM but not his reserve medal. Everything else on his chest is a lie. Keel haul him.

rb325th

Just shared the information and link in the comments section of that article.

Tim Humphries

It would be nearly impossible to deploy to Iraq and Afghanistan as a Marine and not qualify for the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and it is literally impossible to be awarded the Iraq or Afghanistan Campaign Medals without at least one campaign star on each of them. Although this guy IS wearing the ribbons in the correct order of precedence and he even got the Combat Action Ribbon on the correct direction, but it seems that fakers never fully do their homework.

NHSparky

No way he could NOT get a SSDR during a deployment unless he was short-toured or wounded. SSDR is given after 90 days deployed.

And actually, the stories claim “combat wounded” but he’s not rocking the Purple Heart, so either they’re jacked up or he’s just smart enough to realize he’d get his junk hammered if he threw that on his ribbon rack.

Bobo

I noticed that, too. All of that chest bling and no PH despite the wounded claim?

Ex-PH2

No Purple Heart may mean he just doesn’t know what it means, OR he may be walking wide of that.

dcm

Not true I did not get a campaign star on either of my campaign ribbons. You have to be there during specific periods of time during the campaign, which I was only there during one phase for each deployment. I was also wounded in the first month in my OEF deployment and MEDVAC’d and still go my sea service deployment ribbon for that deployment, along with the campaign ribbon, NATO, ect.

Bobo

http://www.army.mil/article/60925/

“Servicemembers who have qualified for the Iraq Campaign Medal and Afghanistan Campaign Medal may display a bronze campaign star on their medal for each campaign phase in which they participated. A silver campaign star is issued in lieu of five bronze stars.”

So, every ICM or ACM should have at least one bronze star attached.

Bobo

And from the USMC:

http://www.marines.mil/News/Messages/MessagesDisplay/tabid/13286/Article/113311/campaign-stars-for-the-afghanistan-and-iraq-campaign-medals.aspx

“THEREFORE, THE ACM AND THE ICM WILL ALWAYS BE AWARDED WITH AT LEAST ONE BRONZE CAMPAIGN STAR (SIMILAR TO THE
SOUTHWEST ASIA SERVICE MEDAL (SWASM), VIETNAM SERVICE MEDAL (VSM),AND KOREAN SERVICE MEDAL (KSM)).”

EdUSMCleg

If you rate the medal, it comes with a star now. At first, it did not. My ICM had no stars at one point and now I have 4 on it. I think it happened after 2007 time-frame.

Ex-PH2©

But… but… he’s got all those pretty medals he wears. And he’s got such nice hair. You’re so MEAN to him.

You’re just jealous. Yeah, that’s it.

(sarc off)

OldSoldier54

Meh. To be jealous of his hair, I’d first need to have some … 😉

Amen to that, brother.

Hate to bust your bubble, TSO, but Cerritos College is actually in Norwalk–not the worst area in SoCal, but not the best, either. Go west on Alondra about 10 minutes and you’ll be smack-dab in the middle of Compton, if that tells you anything.

And pre-med at CC? Yeah, no. Not from a community college, considering that most folks there get an AA/certificate, and that’s it. There are a lot of courses that won’t even transfer into the UC/CSU system, if that tells you anything.

Then again, their colors are blue and white–and their mascot? The Falcon.

Couldn’t make that one up if I tried.

“Los Cerritos” is the name of the old Spanish rancho that later became the various cities in the southeast of LA County. Cerritos is probably the closest city with that name now, but ironically it doesn’t lie within the old Los Cerritos rancho (Cerritos was formerly “Dairy Valley” and actually took the name from the already established Cerritos College..)

Compton is a lot more than “10 minutes away” from Norwalk these days, which I can personally attest to since my commute takes me along the same route.

Heading south from Norwalk TSO can find another funny name: Los Alamitos. I wonder if any of you have passed through the base there in your careers. My kids go to school nearby.

NHSparky

Yeah, been to Los Alamitos more than once. And no, Compton is not that far away.

Especially if you take the 91 Freeway–10 miles, maybe.

Taking Alondra, it’ll take about 15 minutes TOPS to get from the 605 to the 710 (goes into Paramount, then Compton.) Then again, it IS LA traffic, so yeah, call it an hour.

Sincerely,

Guy who used to work for SCE in that area.

tm

@NHSparky: Bless you for your service for my electricity.

Twin Towers (LA County Men’s Central Jail) would be very, very high on that list.

“There are some really bad people in jail”

That was his “come to Jesus moment” in his life…

NHSparky

I love how the story has some sockpuppet LtCol claiming how squared away this guy was and that he was his CO for both Iraq and Afghanistan. And get this–the sockpuppet claims the kid served in Fallujah.

Oh, they just don’t know when to stop stomping on their own dicks.

Kinda old ET1

The only Marine officer I could find with the name Habel is this gentleman: http://www.marforres.marines.mil/MarineForcesReserveLeaders/ExecutiveDirector.aspx

And by his bio, he never deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan… Sooooo… I smell some more bs. Someone apparently ripped off the good name of this officer.

Kinda old ET1

TSO, do you know when/where this piece of slag went to boot? Mr Habel was CO of RTC MCRD SD starting in 2007. Could be how buttnugget found the name for his sockpuppet.

NHSparky

Yeah, like the CO of MCRD is going to remember ONE boot.

I look at it this way–if a CO of MCRD (or RTC, etc.) knew you by name, about 99.9 percent of the time, that was a VERY BAD THING.

MrBill

According to his bio, the real Habel retired as a Colonel. So, if the commenter was not a sockpuppet, he would not sign as an O-5. Very likely he was still an O-5 when Beckham knew of him, though.

MGySgtRet

I looked up LtCol Habel (Beckhams supposed CO for both of his deployments) on MOL. The only Habel, LtCol listed was a retired F/18 driver. Unless Beckham was putting air in the tires of jet aircraft in Fallujah, this does not compute. I think Beckham may be lying……

NHSparky

And while I won’t speak for the Corps, if their rotations are anything like the Navy, it’s HIGHLY unlikely any O-5 would be in command of a battalion for that long (I would think like a Navy CO tour, 30-36 months is typical.)

Hondo

That would also be about right for most Army O5-level commands outside Korea, NHSparky. Some Korean O5-level command tours used to be much shorter than that, but things might have changed.

MGySgtRet

You are correct NHSparky. A battalion commander usually does one deployment as C.O. in the Corps. And a jet driver would NEVER command an infantry battalion.

I agree with what has been stated earlier, the shit weasel Beckham pulled that name out of his past and used it as a sock puppet.

Perhaps we really do need to get the truth about this jackass to the prosecutor pronto. From the first linked article above:

“Judge Fournier dropped five felony counts against Beckham that he committed felony burglary charges on the Norwalk campus to commit the alleged grade and transcript changes.”

Methinks the guy is already profiting from his BS.

NHSparky

Maybe, maybe not. From my recruiting days there, LA-area prosecutors love piling on the charges, maybe a bit too thick, that way when the case is pleaded down to something more reasonable, it looks good on their records.

Problem is, as you know, for a lot of these kids, it’s what they get CHARGED with, not what they got CONVICTED of, that is what has to be reported when they try to enlist.

Hondo

Perhaps. But this was a pre-trial order by the judge, not a plea-bargain. Sounds more to me like the judge was “cutting a combat vet a break” by dropping some more serious charges (burglary).

Somehow I don’t think the judge would have been quite as likely to do that for someone he knew had been thrown out of the USMC for cause.

Hondo

TSO: depends on the details of his employment and the specifics of the situation.

If he forced his way into various professors’/other offices w/o their permission to get access to their records/computers and make grade changes, I don’t think it matters much that he was an employee and was allowed to be in the building’s hallways.

RM3(SS)

California law doesn’t require any kind of breaking and entering. It is “enter with the intent” to commit a crime. When I worked the streets I got successful convictions on shoplifters who admitted that they entered the store to steal stuff.

Hondo

Assuming that petition is accurate, then maybe the burglary charges were a reach.

Of course, I’d also recommend taking anything on that petition with a rather large grain of salt. Like maybe one weighing 100g or so. (smile)

NHSparky

I went in and read a few of the articles these two guys who call themselves Hews Media Group wrote.

Oh, my brain. The stupid, it burns…

I could have smacked myself in the head with a hammer and it wouldn’t have been as painful.

Don’t. Just don’t. But if you do, don’t say you weren’t warned.

Lot of sockpuppeting going on in the comments at the Article, as well as my comment mysteriously going bye bye…

NHSparky

Amazing, that.

Sounds like some folks are covering for our boy Elroy here. Guess they’re finding out that combat vets (or just regular old vets) don’t like it when some shitbag 10-percenter makes claims he’s not supposed to.

But remember kids, Stolen Valor is “victimless”!

2/17 Air Cav

I just read the “Exclusive” story penned by Randy Economy and Brian Hews and I was aghast at the poor quality of the piece. It’s just a mess. Only then did I realize that the writers’ names must be pseudonyms because if you arrange the letters in their names, you get this: “We suck at writing but, luck for us, most people suck at reading so we get away with it.” Amazing, isn’t it? Of course, you have to use a letter more than once and add a few missing letters but, otherwise, there it is!

Hondo

Could indeed be him or one of his “friends”.

To answer the question: yes – it is possible for the Reserve Components to discharge a reservist for non-participation. And an OTH discharge is sometimes the type of discharge the individual receives.

EdUSMCleg

Reason I posted it is it may explain why he was discharged, if he indeed was. Also, his answers to other questions are interesting. I was going to post them all but I don’t want to be accused of spamming 😀

Hondo

EdUSMCleg: another possibility is the guy royally f-ed up and was facing charges, but was offered an OTH in lieu of court-martial and accepted the offer. Don’t know how common that is in the USMCR, but it happens on occasion on the active duty side of the house.

ChipNASA

When I was on the USAF Reserves, you missed one weekend, that was counted as 4 periods, Sat morning, Sat afternoon, Sunday morning Sunday afternoon. Part of the reason is that if they only counted Reserve days equal to one day active duty pay, no one would participate so they double up the periods to make it more equivalent. (BAQ/BAH and all that)
Once you had 12 periods unexcused in 12 months, you could be considered for discharge.

EdUSMCLeg

True

All you need to do is make sure you can run and not fall behind, sound off as loud as you can when you are being ask a question or need to ask one, and try and be the best in the platoon. Don’t try to throw yourself out there too much because this can annoy the drill instructors and they’ll just **** with you. Be smart and make good decisions. Always make sure you use a lot of hand sanitizer and wash your hands because not maintaining clean hygiene can get you really sick. Many recruits do not wash their hands after taking a **** which can lead to you or someone else getting pink eye by picking your eye. Stay clean, make sure to make everything super tight, and do everything you are asked to do as fast as possible. The hikes are nothing dude. The real hikes are for recon marines which are 50 milers. The longest hike you’ll do is gonna be the Reaper Hike which is not that hard. Conserve the MRE’s that they give you and you’ll be fine. Depending on the drill instructors you have depends on the amount of MRE’s you may recieve. You may get up to three for three days or just one. My drill instructors only gave me one which was still enough as one MRE contains over 3000 calories. Everything is smooth sailing after you get done with the field which is PHASE 2. PHASE 3 is easier because your drill instructors have gotten accustomed to you and everyone, well almost everyone, should be able to do their **** without being told or to act fast without standing there looking stupid. Hope this kind of helps?

At some point around 2010 he was using the email addy of danbeckham@live.com. I would do a search on it but I’m in bed on phone.

Checked MOL… No Daniel Rodas or Daniel Beckham listed so all the mentions of him signing off as retired or whatever aren’t true.

I am sure this is no surprise to anyone..

The OTH for not showing up for drills sounds about right. The one shitbag ( Dana Morales) who claimed that customers stiffed her on the tip because she was a Lesbian had the same type of discharge,

I can say that the Army NG also puts dirtbags out on an OTH for “unsatisfactory participation”, i.e. AWOL, PT Failure,…

After I left Active Duty, I was in an Army NG unit that would swear out arrest warrants for folks that would “forget” to show for drill a few times. They only did this for the ones who hadn’t completed their initial terms of service, but it did serve to get and keep everyone’s attention.

TSO: yeah, I can see how that might be a bit difficult. (smile)

We did the same thing in Massachusetts. I had a company commander who would have some of the soldiers who were also state troopers go snatch up the missing on Saturday morning and toss them in jail for the weekend. He was even nice enough to give the trooper enough MREs to cover their meals vice the commonwealth having to feed him. He’d get them back in the office on Sunday after drill, ask them how they liked their weekend, and when they were going to make up the two days that they had missed by sitting in jail. Amazingly, attendance increased while he was in command.

Had an experience, albeit indirect, with a RC unit many years ago that took a somewhat different approach. After someone missed enough drills, they got the individual ordered to active duty to fulfill their commitment.

In retrospect, perhaps that wasn’t the best course of action. One of their “problem children” ended up in our Bn during my first period of active duty. While I was there, he ended up court-martialed and doing time. He assaulted one of our CQs (or maybe the CQ runner) by pulling a pistol, pointing it at him, and “dry-firing” it (no bullets – thankfully).

Putting that guy out of the RC with an OTH might have been a better option.

Green Thumb

OTH = Shitbag.

Hondo

Green Thumb: yep. But that RC unit sending the guy to active duty so we could “straighten him out” could easily have cost another soldier his life. Only the fact that the idiot was too stupid/gutless to load his pistol prevented that.

IMO it would have been better if the RC unit had court-martialed the guy or given him the size-Chapter-10 boot in lieu of court-martial. “Some men, you just can’t reach.”

Army Medical

Wow. I didn’t realize all you had to do to get retired status was to not show up to work anymore. Why have I been here the last 22 years?
lol
