Red W. Virginia

| November 3, 2010

There’s another member of this little group who shall remain nameless for the moment who is constantly ribbing me about the fact that I live in eastern West Virginia “which is almost Maryland”. Yeah, well, here’s how my “almost Maryland” Mineral County voted in the Manchin-Raese contest yesterday;

Mineral County is the little sliver that runs along the Potomac across from Maryland that’s a bit redder than the rest of the red counties around it. The member of this blog who is always ribbing me lives in that tiny patch of blue in the southern part of WV – look closely, cuz you probably can’t see the blue;

Oh, my mistake…WV is almost all blue isn’t it? And since Maryland went all blue, too, who is “closer to Maryland” now? Huh? Huh?

That’s probably why I mispredicted the race – all of my neighbors get to look over into the People’s Republic of Maryland and don’t want that kind of government (like the West Germans who saw East Germany from their bedrooms windows).

Anyway, we got rid of Manchin and his brand of cap and trade – he’s y’all’s problem now.

Who else here is from WV?

I’ve called you a carpetbagger (and many from the panhandle as well), but that map is wrong anyway. I live in WV2 which has had Capito(R) in the house for a while now. She won quite nicely, yet again.

Even on that flawed map… I live in Upshur county.

So just who are you trying to zing??

Who’s the next gov’nah?

GH: There’s move afoot to modify the succession issue. I don’t give it much short term chance, but we’ll see.

Jonn: I am awake. I was kinda hoping there was another visitor from ‘in state’. Not remotely because I was/am offended.

Oh yeah, should add that I think the temporary Governor is the current President of the state Senate: Earl Ray Tomblin, (D)

My family was the ONLY Repubs in Wayne Co WVA. Ran for sheriff, of all things. And commissioner, I believe.

Hard to keep a county RED all by yourself…

WV never ceases to amaze me. They vote for the very people that want coal abolished then complain when they don’t have jobs. The only state in the union that had to get rid of their “likker” stores because they were losing money.

Jonn…lived in Martinsburg with my first job in main stream VA. (I had worked as a contractor for them for 5 years) I opened up the Vet Center there. It was on King St. but has moved. That was almost 26 years ago though. I was born not far from there in Ol’ Virginia.
