Who is our Moses?
As I drove home to let my clinically insane dog out of his cage to take a dump, I was listening to the radio. And as I scanned I came across Glenn Beck. I have never listened to his show, but thought what the hell, might as well now. Anyway, he said something interesting, and I am TOTALLY paraphrasing here:
Look, when they were building the pyramids, a lot of slaves got crushed in the rocks. Lots of them. They didn’t stop, they just left the guy in there are brought up more stones. Happens again, and no one did anything. And this happened hundreds of times, and no one said anything. And then Moses came and said “Let my people go” and led them out of Egypt. Because no one else had taken any interest, and Moses came and promised horrible things from the Power on High, and delivered. And the slaves became Freemen and moved on. This message, and the preceeding 1/2 hour of our show brought to you by the people who know that Gold is a commodity we need in times like this…..
First off, the Gold part. I agree. Just this weekend I dumped all my investments in Gold though to pay for the healthcare of XBlackheart, Dreadbeard (Claymore), PastyEunuch (Brown Neck Gaitor), Milbe, Photara (Mrs. Claymore) and myself. It took the form of these beauties:
But, to Beck’s question: Who is our Moses? I hear Paul Ryan’s name being thrown around a lot, and I do genuinely like the guy, but he caved on several money issues in the past, and everyone seems to be ignoring those discrepancies now. So, I throw it out to you, who is that guy? I have my theory, and I will be sharing it in a bit as I defend him from some asshattery from who else but Vote Vets.

I’m not sure who our Moses is yet, but I’m pretty sure the media will be telling us pretty soon now. I put all of my faith in folks like Chris Matthews and George Stephanopolis to tell me which Republican I should vote for.
Palin! She has the dedication and drive to what she believes in to pull it out. We need to get behind her now so that when the time comes to unseat that bum in the White House, Palin is ready for the challenge!
I don’t think our Moses is ready to step out there yet. I don’t think it’s Palin, or Ronpaul either, or Romney, or Huckabee or the “Maverick”.
Well, conservatives are at a fork in the road. They can over react and go further off the deep end (religious-ideological wingnuts like Palin and other fringe types), or come back down to earth with someone who a) is not a christian fundamentalist, b) who is not a free market fundamentalist c)for whom logic and common sense trump ideology, d) who has one whit of empathy for people less fortunate, e) has good hair.
Wow is Joe’s comment asinine.
And mind you, I’m not in the wingnut religious camp.
We already had our Moses, however, his lessons and principles have been watered down by the republican party to the point none of them have any idea what his principles were. They stopped reviewing his message and that message was ignored by a bunch of self serving asshats that are still, today, more interested in winning elections than standing on principles and providing a clear choice between the two parties.
That man was Ronaldus Maximus aka Ronald Wilson Reagan
Hey Joe….Fuck off
I love taking advice from a fucking commie puke on who conservatives should get to represent them.
I dunno. I was kind of hoping that Ronald Reagan is not really dead and is actually being held in cryo freeze for just a time like this.
Well I certainly don’t see anyone from the GOP who is half the man Reagan was thus far.
Ronald Reagan – where it all started to go bad……
TSO,you ask a first rate question.
I’ve been asking a related question – “Who would want the job?”
I’m neither a nihilist nor an anarchist yet I do ask that question with sincerity. Though it IS a rather loaded question, akin to “When did you stop beating your wife?”
So I’ve begun approaching the ‘Moses’ (thank you) question from the other end, but I’ll leave that exercise for another venue.
—
BTW: Did you ever wonder how many slaves/Jews DIDN’T follow Moses out of Egypt? Even those who did join with him had second thoughts during the trip.
This is a real question, I’m not trying to wind you all up.
Besides Joe apparently being a communist (I wouldn’t know – I haven’t been paying close enough attention), what is actually wrong with looking for a conservative politician who isn’t a fundamentalist (about anything), who has more than a little common sense and, of course, good hair?
—
BTW, I think the preponderance of evidence shows the pyramids were not actually built by “slaves”, at least not in our understanding of the word. That doesn’t mean an inaccurate stereotype doesn’t make sense to frame the question, but I like to think accuracy is important.
Tim- I think he was referncing Romney.
And he ain’t my guy by a LONG ways.
He’s the one for Obamacare back when Obamacare was even less cool.
Negative Joe,
Ronald Reagan= Last US president to put US national security above all else.
Yeah, sure Joe. You weren’t even an itch in your daddy’s pants when Reagan was President. How do Iknow this? Because of several comments you have made and questions you haven’t answered in the past, that you should know the answer to if you were an adult when he was President. You have no clue what is good or bad. All you have are your socialist bullshit talking points that you keep spouting. Unlike you, I was there for the bad, which was before Reagan. Yeah, that trophy Prez you morons think was so great by the name of Jimmy Carter.
I don’t think that there is anyone out there that is perfect. I am actually a fan of Bobby Jindal. I don’t agree with everything he has said or done, but I think he has a pretty strong resume. Lets just hope he get a little more public speaking experience.
“come back down to earth with someone who a) is not a christian fundamentalist, b) who is not a free market fundamentalist c)for whom logic and common sense trump ideology”. As opposed to your wet dream prez, Joey, who is a) a communist fundamentalist b)has no idea what he’s doing, economically c)has no logic or common sense.
Joey, can you point out which Article in the Constitution demands “empathy”? Didn’t think so.
Hey UpNorth,
Only on a site like this can someone be maligned for mentioning qualities like common sense, logic and empathy.
People less fortunate? Cubs fans?

Oh, I’m not so sure about that…try here: http://www.democraticunderground.com a veritable clearinghouse for all of those wonderful attributes. True story.
Claymore
God-damn that needed a spew alert…first laugh I’ve had all day!! Thanks, Man!
Joe; you wouldn’t know common sense if it slapped your melon. Also, the left has no interest in logic, only feelings. I know that when you morons get together to make your protest signs and have a group hug, you’re playing Bobby Vinton records. Empahty? What the fuck would you know about empathy? You haven’t lived long enough to have empathy for anything, other than the struggles of Spongebob. I don’t even think you know what the word means.
Have you ever noticed that conservatives start out saying “I think” and liberals start off with “I feel”?

OldTrooper,
Painting with a broad brush, aren’t you? Age-wise, I suspect i am older than you, if it matters.
Really Joe? Well then tell me; what 2 major events happened in 1979 and how did yo feel about them?
What’s the matter, Joe? Can’t find it in your history books?
He’s still trying to find them on Google. I know which ones you’re talking about, OT–but he’s probably still thinking that they were the debut of Garfield and the introduction of the Walkman.
Joey, still waiting for the article in the Constitution that demands, requires, or even mentions “empathy”. As to #18, Old Trooper and Claymore have slapped you around enough, I’m sure you’re even dizzier than normal about now. And, we’re all waiting for your pronouncement on 1979.
Sparky: That’s funny right there! I don’t care who ya are, that’s funny right there now.
I can actually list more than 2, but I didn’t think that would be fair to the little doorknob.
Still waiting Joe.
What do you think, Sparky, UpNorth; should I tell him? Or should I give him a little hint to one of them?
I think you should give a hint, Old Trooper. I was in Germany at that time and didn’t come up for air for 3 1/2 years, hence I missed whatever significant events may have occurred at that time that did not involve routine MP patrol in old World War II Army jeeps, or semi-covert heroin deals with Third Country Nationals in the red light district of downtown Frankfurt…I was 100% culturally illiterate that year (more so than usual).
I was only four in 1979 and I know one.
I know what empathy is. I wonder how many times Joe has went out of his way to actually help someone? I don’t think he has ever had a kid come up to him and say mister, mister, water… He doesn’t have any clue what suffering is.
The pyramids weren’t built by slaves, but artisans and egyptian farmers who were conscripted in the non harvest season.
As for the Republicans that kinda of is the problem isn’t it? No leadership. Most of the near contempory contenders are defective in some way. I don’t if our “Moses” will emerge for at least another decade. It takes time for new leadership to mature. The congress should be the first stop.
I was definitely impressed by Paul Ryan’s voice in this process over the last few weeks. I was making my way home this Sunday and thus avoided driving my husband crazy watching the change America voted in occurring despite some devoted fiscal conservatives and some outright hypocritical Republicans. I read through the fb note Mike Pence put up of his text from the House yesterday and had already watched Rep Ryan’s. They both say things I would like my Moses to say. I could do without buzzwords like socialism and communism and overly religious emphasis. Regardless of any personal feelings on each, they play too well to the majority of the media helping their party of choice point and call us racists and bigots and hatemongers and fearmongers and wtf ever else they earn their paychecks doing. It would be nice if my Moses could find better ways to articulate how disgusting this direction is and how it flies in the face of our very foundation. And yet even that makes people cry foul, so going beyond that, point out that we need to pay for EVERYTHING and how are we going to pay for what is already past due, let alone adding new expenses. My Moses WILL NOT have sat in the House or the Senate and done nothing to fight to clean up their place of business. In all areas. They will not vote for beefed up kitchen sink bills. AT ALL. EVER. NEVER EVER EVER. They will not block or vote against any pay freeze/cut or term limitations. They will not use our legislative branch of government to behave in a way that would get them fired anywhere else. I heard so much inexcusable bullshit on CSPAN and I can’t think of a specific example right now, but we have some stupid ass toddler blowhards in office that say downright idiotic stuff earning six figure salaries. Needs to end. They will pick from the myriad of problems plaguing the federal government and work to address them. Not talk about thinking they should address them. Not talk about… Read more »
Ok, Joe, here’s a hint for ya……read a book called 444 days.
Ok, Joe; here’s a hint for ya………….read a book called 444 days.
OK, I’m back. I do have a life outside of TAH y’know. 1979. Well, the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, right around Christmas I believe. If we knew then what we know now, we would have let them keep it. And somewhere in there, a very dark day for America, and something we’re still paying dearly for and will continue to pay dearly for, Ronald Reagan announced his candidacy for the presidency. And I didn’t even have to look it up.
Surprising- not ONE of you have mentioned Petraeus. Who has had several stories this week mentioning a run in 2012.
Old news, overall, for sure, but who can say he’s not capable or qualified? He certainly has the intellectual depth. I’d bet a dollar to a donut that he got better grades than PBO. And could out-debate him teleprompter or not.
I, too, was a Fred T backer in the day- and yes, his campaign was run seemingly from a hotel room in Hawaii. Or someplace else unobtanium. NO ONE in the party seems to get it- but Brown’s MA campaign came closest, and I’m also betting the ones that ran that one will have some busy times ahead.
Allan West maybe?
Wolf
Oh, and the reference to 444 days, without looking it up, is probably the kidnapping of US Embassy personnel in Iran.
Don’t know Patraeus’s political affiliation, but unlike a lot of fringe conservatives, he must be supremely rational, a very good trait.
Joe; there should have been no reason for you to “look it up” if you were an adult, or even in high school back then. So, why don’t we start over and you can tell me again how you are older than me?
Well, I was born in ’50. You do the math….
I didn’t have to look it up and I was just four. Joe if you are sixty I am the prince of wales. You don’t act it. You don’t think for yourself. All of your arguments are based on emotion and not on facts.
I’ll give you one reason why Reagan should be remembered fondly. His actions led to the downfall of the Soviet Union. I remember growing up in the 80s. There were missle silos all over the area I grew up. I knew that if the war actually happened I would be dead.
There are too many holes in a lot of your posts for me to believe you are 60. Either that, or you’ve been in a dope fog since ’67.
justplainjason,
Reagan made an admittedly great speech at the wall in the mid eighties. But many historians say the USSR was headed for collapse all on it’s own. Reagan took a huge gamble with the fate of the entire world when, in response to the deployment of SS 20’s in eastern Eurpoe, he deployed Pershing missles with a travel time to target of less than 5 minutes. Now we can look back with the benefit of hindsight and say it worked, but if it had gone a little differently we would not be here to talk about it. We dodged a bullet there. Gorbachev saw the writing on the wall and tried to bring the USSR in for a soft landing, with mixed success. The idol worship of Reagan’s foreign policy is misplaced. And as for the repurcussions of his Milton Friedman-inspired domestic policy, he sowed the seeds of the current global economic crisis, and the world may never recover from his wrong-headed economic policies.
…. he sowed the seeds of the current global economic crisis, and the world may never recover from his wrong-headed economic policies……
so much for the benefit of hind sight….your blind in one eye and can’t see with the other.

LOL!!! Joe, yer killing me with all this boilerplate BS. Just stop, please, because I’m laughing too hard. Everything you just put down reads like something off a term paper at a liberal university political science class.
Do you honestly believe that tripe you just wrote? Or, would you believe the people in the former Soviet Union that have said repeatedly that the fact that Reagan stood up against the Soviets and they weren’t accustomed to being told no, since Carter was their bitch and gave in to whatever they wanted. Reagan upped the ante and called their bluff. I really enjoyed watching the dumbasses around the world start wetting themselves and calling Reagan a cowboy, blah, blah, blah, and insisting that he was going to lead us into WWIII and so on and so on. It didn’t happen and Reagan’s foreign policy was a triumph, no matter how you want to spin it. I supposed you think that Carter bending over all the time was a better approach?
I suppose you think Keynesian economics is far superior? Let me guess; your textbooks don’t cover the Keynesian approach that Carter had; right? If you are 60 years old, please tell me what the economy was like, from your perspective, in ’78-’80? Show me how all the right moves by Carter worked. Tell me, old man, exactly what barometer was a visible sign of the great economy of Carter, other than the double digit inflation, double digit interest rates, double digit unemployment, etc.
Don’t look it up, you should be able to remember this all on your own. I know I do, but then again, I wasn’t in a dope fog.
Gov’t spending skyrocketed during Reagan’s term, GOP rhetoric notwithstanding, OldTrooper. The S&L collapse of the ’80s (remember that?), just another case of privatizing the rewards, socializing of risk – the bankers gamble and win, they make the profit. The bankers gamble and lose, the taxpayer picks up the tab. Sound like a more recent fiasco, OldTimer, I mean OldTrooper? And his policies on deregulation, i.e., no regulation, lax regulation, turning a blind eye regulation, putting industry shills in charge of regulating their own industries (the fox regulating the henhouse), which Bush expanded on, have brought the country to ruin.
