Beretta 1301 Mod.2

Four charged in drive-by shooting at Rockford convenience store

by: Blake Dietz
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Two Rockford men and two juveniles were charged in connection to a drive-by shooting in the parking lot of West Side Stop, 937 School Street.

According to Rockford Police, officers responded to the 900th block of School Street, near the Lee Street intersection, on Saturday night for reports of gunshots.

Witnesses say a vehicle drove through the parking lot and fired several shots toward a nearby group. One individual, an unidentified man, returned fire.

Several pedestrians and vehicles were seen fleeing the area upon police arrival.

Video surveillance footage from the convenience store shows a silver Chevrolet Equinox driving through the store’s parking lot when the driver appears to open fire.

The unidentified male then appears to return fire, striking a 16-year-old juvenile passenger as the vehicle fled out of the parking lot and headed eastbound on School Street.

Shortly after, police responded to a residence in the 600th block of Bruce Street for reports of a shooting victim, later identified as the 16-year-old.

The Chevrolet Equinox was found in the residence’s driveway with a shattered rear window and a bullet hole in the rear seat.

Two teenagers, Zyhaire Ward, 18, and Anthony Beardsley, 18, and two juveniles, including the shooting victim, were taken into custody.

All four were charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm.

They were booked into the Winnebago County Jail and held without bond.

Someone ruined a perfectly good drive-by returning fire, and everyone then recalled pressing business elsewhere. No mention if Mssrs. Ward or Beardsley were in possession of valid Illinois FOID cards. Or anybody else.

Update: Fatal shooting in Upper Darby Sunday night appears to be self-defense, police say
May have been self-defense by 16-year-old, Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt said

Upper Darby police reported that they have identified a 16-year-old family member involved in a fatal shooting Sunday night resulting from a domestic incident.

Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt said it appears the shooting was in self-defense stemming from domestic violence.

Police responded to a house in the 200 block of Wembly Road shortly after 9:30 p.m. for a call regarding an unresponsive man, then learned on the way there that the 911 caller was saying he was shot, according to radio traffic.

Medics were called to the scene. The victim was transported to Penn Presbyterian Hospital.

Police initially reported the victim had died and that a suspect was in custody, but later updated that the person taken into custody is not responsible for the shooting. According to information put out over social media Monday morning, that person is cooperating fully and has provided detectives with a detailed and accurate account of events.

Bernhardt said Monday afternoon that from information detectives have gathered so far, the deceased got into an argument with his girlfriend, the 16-year-old’s mother. She put the man out of the house, but later let him return and that was when things really escalated, Bernhardt said.

The deceased allegedly had the woman pinned to the ground with a knife to her throat in front of both of her children at one point, and that is when the juvenile is believed to have shot the deceased in defense of his mother, according to Bernhardt. Police are still working out exact details, he said, but two firearms were recovered.

Bernhardt said police have been working with the family all day to have the juvenile brought in to talk with detectives and he expected they would be coming to the police station later Monday. He said the family is cooperating but are still in shock and police have been trying to give the mother some space, but at this point it does not appear that any charges will be filed.

Sounds like the “bystanders” involved in the drive by followed the Fourth Ess “Shut Up”. And what’s the best way to shut up? By not being there when the po-po come around to ask questions.

Well done, son, to protect mama. To bad it had to come to that.
Now get that boy into therapy STAT. He needs it after that trauma and shock of making an adult life-or-death decision.
I weep for him.

Maybe mama also needs some counseling on making better life decisions.

KoB, here’s your fugly gun for today.
That Beretta 1301 may be the best shotgun evah, worth its weight in gold pressed latinum (STDS9), for all I know.
But damned if it doesn’t look like the red headed bastard stepchild of a Mossy and an AR15. WTH?

It is rather fugly like a Ferengi, Tox, but I reckon since it’s a Bay-Rhetta, it should work quite well. No indication as to how much gold pressed latinum it would take, but I’m sure that the Rules of Acquisition state that we all should acquire one. Speaking of DS9…and being supervised…is Jadzia available?

The trash taking pot shots at the trash that headed off to the dump. Tooo bad Illy Noise doesn’t pass some common sense gun control lawz.

Bear Cub taking care of Mama. Damn shame he got put in the situation, but I give him a hearty BZ!
