House Bill calls for automatic registration of men, between 18 to 26, for the draft

| June 17, 2024

An amendment was added to the bill for the Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). If this version of the bill passes into law, men between 18 to 26 would automatically be registered for the draft. The Selective Service would be able to use federal databases to find the information they need to do this automatic registration. However, Chuck Schumer had issues with the bill. There were amendments that curbed funding for abortion, for transgender medical care, and for diversity efforts. The Senate’s version of the bill reportedly requires women to register for the draft.

From Fox News:

“By using available federal databases, the [Selective Service] agency will be able to register all of the individuals required and thus help ensure that any future military draft is fair and equitable,” Houlahan said during debate last month, according to Defense News.

“This will also allow us to rededicate resources — basically that means money — towards reading readiness and towards mobilization … rather than towards education and advertising campaigns driven to register people.”

The NDAA also included the largest-ever military pay raise in history, with a 19.5% increase for junior enlisted troops and a 4.5% increase for others.

It also included funding for two new Virginia-class submarines and the establishment of a drone force within the U.S. Army, among other provisions.

The NDAA passed the House in a 217 to 199 vote, but it’s unlikely to be taken up by the Senate.

What a mish mash of bullshit designed to distract from something else. The real question what do they really they NOT want you to notice?

26Limabeans

The vast majority of todays so called men between 18-26 will
just tell the draft board to suck on it.
It would take the threat of immediate execution for non compliance.
Probably set off the second American revolution and even at
that America as founded will be no more.

5JC

Except there was no draft during the Revolutionary War. You could get a $16 bonus and land after the war for signing up. That would be $592 in 1913 dollars, no idea what it was in 1792. I do know the average annual salary in the 1790s was $65 a year.

26Limabeans

My HFP was $69/mo in 1970.
Tax free!

Claw

What? $69/mo? Mine was only $65/mo. Why would you get 4 more dollars than me? /s

BTW, HFP is now up to $225/mo.

26Limabeans

I knew a guy at the 68th finance DaNang /s

rgr769

$65 was all I was paid. Who knew that a finance clerk could make the amount of combat pay discretionary.

It was brought to my attention that the number of transgender men will decrease while transgender women will increase. My question – will this be the 21st Century version of going to Canada?

lawrence todd

if registration is required we should register all persons in the age range.

SFC D

Register everyone or register no one. It’s called “equality”. No exemptions.

President Elect Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

Yep. FemiNazis have been screaming about “EQUALITY” for decades. Seems like all good Commies, they want equality of privileges, not equality of responsibilities.

SFC D

“By using available federal databases, the [Selective Service] agency will be able to register all of the individuals required”

Just how many fookin databases do the feds have? And have they given a single thought as to what it would take to actually enact a draft, how much infrastructure the military would have to build? Not to mention that the armed forces seemed to be dead set against the draft anyway.

5JC

I wonder how many times they’re going to “draft me”, with all of my bogus social media accounts and false birthdays.

During the Vietnam War they tried to draft some family pets. When the kids went to The ice cream parlor to get some free ice cream they gave the pet name so they can get more ice cream.

The military bought the list and tried to draft the animals. If I had a cat I would totally ship it off to the Army, those little bastards are mean.

Another reason to enact conscription now, instead of waiting for a national emergency. There will be some glitches to overcome in getting the system running smoothly, dontcha know.

“Just how many fookin databases do the feds have? ”

We will never (be allowed to) know, but I am guessing even more than the number of federal police forces.

Yes, there will be glitches, just like that 0bamacare website.

Or, are they too precious to risk in combat?

Why folk want to add women, fake or not they’d get registered too.

5JC

Don’t worry, when it kicks off with China 97% of the men in the country will identify as women. Then they will have no choice but to draft women.

I would too, but I already identify as old. If they are scraping the bottom of the barrel to get me out, capital is probably already moved to Beijing.

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

Unfortunately, I’m in Vancouver at the moment. If China invaded, no one would notice around here.

5JC

I don’t see an invasion of North America in China’s immediate future. Despite their best attempts, gun control has gone the opposite direction of what they set out to do. We now likely have more gun owners in the United States than anytime in the last 100 years.

Probably 1 to 2% of those have enough rifles to arm an infantry company.

SFC_K

Maybe not a company…

timactual

I don’t worry about a Chinese invasion. My AO is already occupied by Koreans; the local Chinese are heavily outnumbered. They even renamed a section of the major thoroughfare “Korea Way”, and built shrines on each side of the highway. Not too far away is “Seoul Plaza”.

Jimbojszz

My concern with the alphabet sex group is? Will they all share the same shower? Could end up with some pregnant men or women depending on the plumbing. Unless they had a remodel job done. It’s going to be really confusing deciding who sleeps where too. What kind of job will they do…cannon fodder like the Russian prisoners/infantry.

Prior Service (Ret)

Automatic draft makes sense. Of course, it better include DACA dreamers. Drafting women? Ha ha, you asked for equal rights. You got ‘em! All of them. 19.5%? Sweet. (Even the 4.5% is nice.)

Hack Stone

Hack Stone enlisted in the DEP January 1981. Never bothered to register for Selective Service, since his ass already belonged to Uncle Sam. Summer of 1985, Hack Stone comfortably ensconced in his second enlistment and at the time residing in a Quonset Hut at the foot of Mount Fuji, and Poppa Stone forwarded a letter from the Selective Service saying that if Hack Stone did register bad things would happen to him. They would have probably dispatched a team of crackheads with blowtorches and pliers.

USAFRetired

Sometime during the Korean War a notice was received via US mail at my grandparents house advising my father that his friends and neighbors as well as Uncle Sam wanted him. At the time he was under the age of 25 part way through his second enlistment in the Marine Corps. His CO provided him a letter advising them he was already spoken for.

Odie

I got something similar about the same time frame.

Kinda like the voting rolls… we have names, why cross reference to see if the list is current or valid.

ChipNASA

My mom forwarded all my home mail to Lackland when I was in basic training when I was 21 and I got a nasty gram from selective service saying I need to register and I have already been registered for three years and was going through Air Force basic trading so I mailed it back and said “Hey Morons I already registered at 18 and if you can’t find it, you can come find me at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas or you can just suck it.”

Odie

Yeah, I was at Norton when my folks forwarded that letter to me. I never bothered to reply and heard no more about it.

Gotta love the cheese on the raw burger. I’ve been known to find my way around a grill from time to time, but I’ve never added cheese before the meat was about done cooking. Then again, what do I know? I’ve only ever used propane, charcoal, wood, and pellets. Direct flame, smoking, griddle, etc. Hope his daughter and her wife enjoyed the tainted meat! Let’s be honest, though, do those look like beef patties? It’s probably Impossible brand burgers and dogs with vegan “cheese”.

About the worst cookout I’ve experienced was at one of my best Army friend’s on-post housing. He and his wife like to be one with nature, so they scavenged some pine branches from the woods to cook the steaks over. Once the steaks were on the grill, my buddy’s wife ran out to get some veggies from the Commissary. She was gone a good while, and upon her return the rest of the meal was expedited. Result? Tough, overcooked pine-flavored steak and nearly raw green beans. I don’t know what else we had that night… I was trying to politely take a few bites while planning out how I was going to discard of the remnants.

KoB

I think Chuckie prefers his meat when it’s been smothered and covered with Fruit of The Looms…and comes with that Special Sauce.

timactual

With the “pine-flavored” steak I recommend a good (as if) Retsina.

Commissioner Wretched

I note that Schumer has removed the photo from his X or Twitter or whatever it’s called this week because of all the flak he’s gotten about the cheese on the raw burger.

timactual

He also mixed meat and dairy, but I doubt such things are of much concern to him.

Jimbojszz

Maybe it was vegan cheese.
Politicians have a saying:
Do as I say, not as I do.

Jimbojszz

I see that nasty smirk of Chuckie. Gives me the willies to look at that face, knowing all the shitbaggery stuff he is responsible for in this country. Creepy!

Jimbojszz

I did basic with a bunch of draftees. That really sucked. I was one of the few volunteers and that gave me a little bit of an edge by not having a bad attitude.
I would really like to see the snowflake youth of today going through some training. That would be some funny shit to see.

26Limabeans

Same here.
Had a lot of respect for the DI and being less of a problem gave
him more time to spend on the “unhappy” ones.
I would pay to watch todays youth get some Basic.

Jimbojszz

My DI turned the whole bed over on this dude who just couldn’t wake up in the morning. I hope the DI’s didn’t get too soft with DEI. It’s going to take some rough tactics to get some of the snowflakes in shape. We’ll have to see what comes of the draft legislation.

fm2176

Well, I can’t speak for Marine DIs or anything in the past 6+ years, but as a Drill Sergeant from 2016-2018, I can say that we weren’t “soft”. Physical abuse is a no-go and has been for years, but we could rearrange the barracks with the best of them. One former Marine liked to wait until the Trainees were gone for an hour or two, blast metal music, and create art with the bunks and wall lockers. I’d block the Trainee entrance with mattresses and bunks, then give them one minute to get upstairs and “toe the line”. Before they were [rightfully] ordered to stop doing so, some younger Drills would empty the contents of unsecured wall lockers in the “kill zone”. Issued clothing and gear are one thing, but dumping out detergents and emptying cans of shaving cream is another.

I did go a little overboard once, tilting a wall locker and not realizing it would create a domino effect. A Trainee screamed, pinned between a couple of lockers down the row and my career briefly flashed before my eyes… But here I am all these years later (is the statute of limitations up yet?).

ChipNASA

I went through basic in 1984.
A couple of nights in I remember them TIs rousted us out of bed at 1 o’clock in the morning and screaming at us about the bathroom wasn’t clean and there was soap powder and shit all over the place and everybody was fighting with everybody and using towels and T-shirts and underwear and whatever to clean everything up and cussing at each other the entire time, but who is the dumb shit that left us this way.
Fast forward about a month and a half an Overnight dorm guard in the last two weeks or so basic training and another training instructor came to me, “ Airman, I want you to stand over there and get out of the way I don’t want you to get hurt ( Oh my God, he said caring words to me 🥹)
And I watched as he went to the janitors closet and got a bucket full of water and soap powder and proceeded to sprinkle water and soap powder all over the bathroom and the brand new baby rainbow airman that had been there about three or four days just got routed at 1:30 or 2 o’clock in the morning with a drill instructor ripping him a new ass about how they left the bathroom in a shambles .
I had a sudden revelation “oh you Motherfuckers!! “

So that’s the new, improved, volunteer military, eh? Glad I missed it. Even the worst draftee I served with wasn’t as bad as the “professional” DIs you describe. Any DI who acted as you describe during the bad old draftee days would have been relieved on the spot for incompetence, if not bad behavior.

jim

Funny, I nevered signed up. I am a war veteran, they said it does not matter.

jim

I thought automatic if signing 8 yr contract. 4 active and r reserv in my time.

jim

4 reserve

Jimbojszz

I never registered for the draft either. Enlisted at 17 and received an exemption from registration for being in the military during my 18-26 years of age period. At least in the 70’s it was that way.

Commissar

You are required to register by law.

Many young people are unaware of this and fail to register. Inadvertently violating the law.

It is not prosecuted but can having failed to register can come up in employment screening, security screening, and applications to some government programs.

It makes sense that registration should happen automatically.

Also, women should be automatically registered as well.

Consideration for college loans require a student to be registered for the Selective service. It is a felony which could prevent you from voting or owning a firearm, if convicted.

SFC_K

Tell every illegal immigrant intercepted at the border that they are required to register for the draft and explain in explicit detail exactly what that entails. Let’s see how many turn around.
