Three and a half years active duty, discharged as a Buck Private.
Went from Oklahoma to a sea cruise in Alaska (where nobody knew him) before putting on a hat that says I’m a Silver Star recipient.
Insinuates he was a Ranger in Viet of the Nam although he probably only had about two months in his permanent party unit at Fort Hood (after Basic and AIT) by the time the troops pulled out from Viet of the Nam.
Definitely High Speed, Low Drag.
When Brown was assigned to the 2nd Armored Division in August 1972, the 2AD had already been at Ft. Hood a long time. The only other major unit on post was the 1st Cav which had come back from RVN roughly a year prior. Both fell under III Corps. If memory serves, there were no Ranger units based there at all.
1st Cav’s Ranger Company/LRRP Co. was H/75th Inf. I believe all the letter Ranger Companies attached to separate brigades, Inf. Div’s, and Corps Hq’s were deactivated when their respective units stood down in RVN. So far as I am aware there were no operational Ranger units in the US after removal of US forces from RVN, anyway ones which were attached to infantry divisions. The 1st Ranger Bn was created in 1974, I believe.
Tecnically you are correct. However, the 1st Cav left one Brigade (3rd Brigade Separate) in VN until 26 June 72. After that the Garry Owen Task Force was formed and 1st Cav personnel stayed in VN till lata August 72. Personnel were still being recruited from the in country batallions for H Co 75th Rangers in late 1971 and early 1972. Ranger training was supposedly conducted in country for several weeks.
There Were still many combat actions occuring during this period. To include the 1972 Easter Offensive. The 1st Can had more territory to cover with less troops than ever before in the war.
That said, this guy is a pure POS liar. I hope his wife finally finds out the real story. And the VA IG should check out his stories.

What jumped out at me is the fact that he is getting dental care at VA. My understanding is that only service connected disabled veterans qualify for dental. You have to have a service connected Dental issue, or be 100% Disabled (permanent and Total) to receive VA Dental care.

Our info comes from the National Personnel Records Center with a Freedom Of Information Act request. It shows he served three and a half years active duty, spent all his time at Fort Hood, TX after Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training, and was then discharged as a Private E-1.
