Yet More Falsehoods
Remember those claims by Clintoon supporters that you couldn’t believe the Wikileaks emails? You know, especially those claims by DNC chief Donna Brazile that the Wikileaks emails had been “doctored”?
Well, looks like it’s indeed time to raise the “bullsh!t” flag. But the reason is not because the emails have been “doctored”.
You see, the Clintoon email server “hillaryclinton.com” that processed the email Brazille was specifically questioned about – the email where she stated that she’d been slipped debate questions in advance and was passing one of them on to Clintoon – uses a verification process for outgoing email. The process it uses is an accepted industry standard called DomainKeys Identified Mail, or DKIM.
DKIM verifies a given email’s source using a digital signature, ensuring that it actually came from the host that purports to have sent it and isn’t a fake from a spammer. A side benefit of such a digital signature is that the message’s content is also verified – and any later alterations to that content can be readily detected.
As noted in this article, the Brazile email in question checks out. Its DKIM signature validates correctly; that means the email in fact came from the domain in question and has not been altered.
Oopsie.
Further: per this publicly-available tool, the Clintoon email server “hillaryclinton.com” which sent the Brazile email in question uses a 1024-bit RSA key. (To check that yourself, enter “google” in the selector field and “hillaryclinton.com” for the domain.) That in turn means it’s not vulnerable to known feasible attacks on shorter RSA keys which might allow alteration without detection.
Finally, Google hosts the “hillaryclinton.com” email domain. They know a thing or two about security and key management. So a “lost private key” claim (which might also allow alteration without detection) is likewise specious.
In short: yeah, they’re lying. Through their teeth. Yet again. And the press is aiding and abetting their lies.
Surprised?

Donna Brazile was referring to the “Wikipedia” leaks, not the “Wikileaks” leaks, so you need to cut her some slack. Is it ironic that they have no problem with someone (in the IRS?) leaking Donald Trumps tax returns, but are having conniptions with the DNC, Hillary Clinton and “grass roots organizations” being exposed for their crimes? And yes, I said crimes.
Of course they’re lying, because beyond Facebook, most Americans, even ones who think themselves savvy, are woeful ignorant savages, akin to the cavemen around the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
That and they like Kool-aid and free shit.
People who are so power-mad that they have to cheat, lie, steal and whatever else there is to get power are rapidly rolling down the road to their own destruction.
Or have you forgotten about Tricky Dick? Or that fact that BJ’s impeachment was 2 votes shy of going into effect?
The road to Hell is deeply paved with bad intentions.
Problem is, this bitch will take 300+ million with her, and she doesn’t even care.
At least Nixon had the decency to resign when he got caught.
Nixon deleted 18 minutes of tape and was forced to resign. Clinton deletes 33,000 emails and is running for president. WTF?
Yes, but look at the upside (for us): her health is so impaired that the stress of that job will take a worse toll than it did on FDR. IF she manages to get the job and survives the first 18 months, I will be greatly surprised, but as with LBJ, she will have nothing else to do when she leaves.
Money means nothing when you can’t do anything with it, and you can’t do anything with it when you’re dead, can you?
Unfortunately, she can do exceptionaly grave damage in any time she has in office. How long to Federal judges serve?
Those appointments have to be ratified by Congress. Remember Bork? And those others who could not get seated? Tricks of the trade and all that.
Yeah, they require Senate Confirmation. So? Do you really think the GOP will filibuster every Federal judge that’s appointed over the next 4 or 8 years if she gets elected?
That doesn’t happen. She’ll get most of her nominees confirmed – and each one of them will pervert the plain language (and intent) of the Constitution for decades afterwards.
“And each one of them will pervert the plain language(and intent) of the Constitution for decades afterwards”. Exactly right, and that’s what the dems are salivating over now. There’ll be no recovery from the damage those idiots will do.
And, even if she doesn’t last 18 months, we’ll be stuck with Tim Kaine. He’s even more extreme than Hillzy von Klintoon.
I understand your point, Hondo, but they flat refused to accept any judicial candidate proposed by bodaprez and we’re now down to 8 judges, with no tie-breaker. And not ALL judges are dishonest creatures, despite your apprehensions.
True – and largely irrelevant. The Supreme Court is NOT the only Federal court to which the POTUS appoints judges with lifetime tenure. And many if not most Supreme Court vacancies are filled with those already serving as Federal judges.
Scalia died on 13 Feb 2016. Since then, 6 different individuals appointed as Federal judges have been confirmed by the Senate. All of them were confirmed within a 5 month period. That’s a rate of on the order of a baker’s dozen yearly – or over 50 during a 4-year Presidential term.
http://www.uscourts.gov/judges-judgeships/judicial-vacancies/confirmation-listing
50 socialist “true believers” inserted to the Federal judiciary can do a great deal of damage to this nation. And if you think Clintoon will appoint anyone else to a Federal judgeship, well, I have this bridge for sale . . . .
Headlines on all the major networks any minute now…
I passed out holding my breath.
While you were passed out you voted for Hillary.
Twice.
In six different precincts.
Damn, I hate it when that happens.
The Clinton’s lying? For personal gain? To cover up corruption and demagoguery?
NO WAY!
Her Lips are moving.
Any questions?
Brilliant!
Nothing Surprises me anymore
While I’m fairly certain she’s lying through her teeth, I believe DKIM only verifies sender domains… not message content. So a hacker could send a fake e-mail from hillaryclinton.com and it’d verify. The amusing thing about this it means one of two things – either Brazile is lying, or hackers had the ability to send messages from that server, the latter of which reflects pretty damn badly on their security.
Of course, they’ll most likely go with a third possibility – that the Russians broke the 1024-bit RSA key. Which is actually possible. But if they’d done all that, why not put something considerably more scandalous into a forged e-mail?
Occam would like to have a word with Ms. Brazile, I think.
Um, that would be a, “No”.
The DKIM protocol involves calculating a digital signature over the message using the private key of the sending host. That signature indeed validates domain of origin. However, a side benefit of that digital signature is that any after-the-fact alterations invalidate that digital signature.
You should probably read the links in the article above. In the third link, the guy who wrote the article independently verified the DKIM signature on the Wikipedia message in question – the one where Brasile spoke of receiving questions ahead of time on occasion. (He explains how he did so in the article, but the method is one your or I could also use without much trouble.) The message checked out OK – e.g., the message’s DKIM digital signature was valid.
He then modified the email and tried again. The modified version failed verification. Specifically, its digital signature didn’t pass verification – in this case, because the message had been altered post-transmission. (A totally fabricated message would also fail, but for a different reason: because the forger would not have access to the private key used to sign the message.)
The guy’s fairly confident he’s right, as he’s backing his claims with his own cash. Want about $600? Forge a message that passes DKIM verification and provide it to him. If anyone can, he says he’ll send them a bitcoin. That offer’s in the article too.
The intent of DKIM is indeed to verify source domain. But since the message is also digitally signed, it also allows detection of any post-transmission alterations of messages sent by that host. And since the digital signature on the message in question is valid, the message in question in fact came from “hillaryclinton.com” – and has not been modified since it was transmitted originally.
I stand corrected on the verification issue.
That said, the second party stands true – a hacker, inside their system, and thus with access to their private DKIM key, could create a false, verified message, and with root access, prevent that message from ever actually reaching recipients,.. only, say, to be leaked later. In which case it’d verify as authentic, but nobody would have ever received it.
Perhaps it’s simply my lack of knowledge about DKIM, but it seems perfectly reasonable to me that the blogger was able to verify an existing message -which involves checking the public key- but not authenticate a new, modified message, as that requires the private key… which resides on the hillaryclinton.com server. In other words, you can’t forge one without the private key – which any hacker who was inside the system would’ve had, but we obviously don’t.
Like I said, though, we’re splitting hairs – if the hackers did have root-level access, my guess is they would’ve done something considerably more embarrassing than prove than Donna Brasile is a lying opportunist. I hope she’ll get fired for this, but that isn’t going to happen.
I concur that someone with access to the private key of the DKIM key-pair could break the system. But like you I also find it hard to believe that someone with such hypothetical access and bad intent wouldn’t have forged a more damaging bogus email.
Not sure how Google (who apparently provides the server for “hillaryclinton.com”) manages their DKIM service. It’s at least theoretically possible that client email managers for organizations to which they provide email services don’t have direct access to the DKIM keys. Don’t know how you’d set something like that up (other than maybe by using a dedicated second server to provide DKIM signing for outgoing messages) or how easy it is to do so, but it’s at least theoretically possible. Whether Google does that or not (or something else that separates the email and DKIM functions), dunno.
Someone with permission to administer email accounts w/o DKMI access could also create bogus stuff – e.g., send a message from “inside”. And someone who’d obtained Brasile’s user credentials could obviously send messages posing as her. If so, shame on her for sharing those login credentials with anyone. VERY bad practice.
The email in question isn’t bogus, though. It’s just an embarrassing email Brazile actually sent – and which technical means prove rather conclusively she falsely denied sending.
Occam’s Razor, indeed.
Nice find, Hondo.
If I could figure out how to post the pic I would – but the caption reads:
“So let me get this straight: The DNC is mad at Russia because they “think” they are trying to manipulate our election by exposing that the DNC is manipulating our election?”
Just post the URL. People can follow it to see the photo.
Hondo, how about a tutorial article on how to post pics here @ TAH? It would be very helpful to some of us digital dinosaurs.
I’ll hold off on doing that until Jonn gives the OK, PT. I figured out how to do that by accident, but I’m not sure that Jonn wants everyone doing it or if the site allows commenters without article posting privileges to do so.
If you’d like to know how to do that in an article, I can send you pointers on that via email. You have article submission rights, so you can certainly do that if you like.
it’s in My Pictures….no URL
Somewhat unrelated – know a big gun guy who is voting for Hillary because he already has his and figures he’s smarter than law enforcement if they try to pull a ban. Talked to several folks last night who are voting for her becausue they think Trump is out of control. Even people who normally lean Republican are voting not for Hillary, but anti-Trump. Not sure this one will end well. At this point I am hoping tere isn’t a Senate and House sweep…we will be will and truly screwed if so.
Well, I don’t think you can post a pic to be viewed here if it’s not browser accessible on the Internet, so that’s the first issue. (smile) I’m also not sure that someone without article posting rights has the ability to post in-line photos in comments. Jonn would have to weigh in on that issue.
Youtube videos are a bit different; those WordPress appears to handle automatically when the URL is posted.
So somebody at CNN passed along the debate questions to Brazile in the hope it would give Hillary an edge. And instead of exposing that CNN employee for a serious breach of journalism ethics, the conversation has devolved into a debate about whether the Russians hacked a DKIM key.
Some of this would border on low comedy if, you know, it didn’t involve the fate of the nation.
My own possibly warped view is that Hillary could probably drop her pants, take a giant dump on the White House lawn, and instead of calling it a bizarre example of indecent exposure, the stories in the press would be about how she boldly seized the moment to fight global warming by fertilizing the turf.
It’s apparently gotten that bad…
I still think Trump might win, but a Clinton presidency might be fun to watch. She’s old, sick, bitter. No one really likes here. She has no rhetorical or political skills. No one trusts her. She has no core values other than greed. No one is really listening to her. She has numerous scandals still hanging over her. I believe in karma, she’s skated by all these years everything could collapse overnight.
Is the MSM going to cover this?
Fox ran a story on it. Regarding the rest of the MSM, well . . . does the sun set in the east?
The only way I can see HRC winning this election is thru nefarious means like Vito, Tony, Guido & Joeie Bowlegs CHEATING Assoceeation & gentleman’s club…SHe is disliked too hated by most that I have talked too here in a what is usually a Democratic state known as Nu Joisey, and I talk to a fairly good spectrum of people of all the melting pot that is the NJ, out of every single vote for the “witch from the globalist” I here of 7 for Trump and 2 for a 3rd party out of some conscientiousness thing or something of that nature,
The ones I have come across that are enamored with the Clintoon aura (smh) are usually lesbo types , happy fellow types , creepy people or 50+ woman, whom dress like hippies and try to relive 1967 thru 1973.. or they are or are retired large school district administrators, teachers ….all part of the barely adequate on the whole educational system that seems more intent on indoctrinating than educating in the 3 r’s and then advancing in knowledge of the sciences, technologies and tradesman(tradesperson) skills that are useful instead of psychological social engineering for things like advanced potty training in a multi functional toilet environment or they’re TV people who get their info from the alphabet channels or propaganda arm of the liberal left and they all drink massive amounts of whine and or So-Duh, and they all think everything is hunky dory
that’s my unscientific assessment of where the voting may go in this current voting cycle, or maybe, people just might stay home????
Sadly, I’ve come to believe that American voters collectively (a) have the attention span of a housefly, (b) can be incredibly stupid, and (c) don’t give a sh!t about what happens in the long term. Betting that they will do the best thing for this country’s long term future when the cast their ballots may well be a losing proposition.
Zactly, Hondo. This is a no brainer election. One candidate is a dyed-in-wool progressive who sees the Constitution as an impediment to effecting change and the other candidate isn’t. I wouldn’t want to spend five minutes in the private company of Trump or Clinton, but this election isn’t about personalities. Correction. Because the media tell us it is and the electorate is as stupid and don’t give a shit, maybe this election is only about personalities. That Wicked Wide Load gets in and there will be no smiley-face, polly anna bullshit for me. I cook a lot on my grille. I know when something is done. This country will be done if Clinton gets in. Her Sup Ct nominations alone will make certain of that.
I hate to agree,but I must.
