William Difilippantonio/Bill Anthony; phony special warfare sniper

| July 11, 2016

trigger today

One of our friends, John C. Simpson, sent us his work on this fellow William Difilippantonio, who wrote a book under the name of Bill Anthony entitled “Through the Crosshairs of a Scope” a fictional account of his time as a Naval Special Warfare sniper. “Fictional” being the most operative word.

Difilippantonio wasn’t a special warfare sniper, he was a CT3; Cryptology Technician E-4 stationed in Scotland during his time in the Navy in 1964-1967. If you doubt me, you can read our friend’s review of his bullshit book from the point of view of a real special warfare operator;

The Case Against 'Trigger' by Firebrand38 on Scribd

He also sent us Difilippantonio’s records;

Another cornhole-sniffing taint-lusting candyassed moldy rat turd of a wannabe Sparkle Pony! I wonder if he’ll go Dutch Rudder Gang on us? He looks like a Coinneseur of their cocktails, MD 20/20 and T-bird.

HMC Ret

OK, API, get off the damn fence and say what you really mean.

A Proud Infidel®™

AWWWRIGHT DAMMIT, I’ll try…. ?

Thunderstixx

HEY !!!
Go easy on the Thunderbird stuff, an entire platoon of winos was borne through that stuff at Ft Wainwright.
There damn sure wasn’t anything else to do…

A Proud Infidel®™

I’ve heard that T-bird is also useful as a floor stripping compound! ?

Hondo

Thunderbird? Damn, do they still make that crap?

Tried it once. Afterwards, I understood the reason for the fine print near the bottom of the label that read “SERVE VERY COLD”. If it’s cold enough, it numbs the tongue and you can’t taste it as much. (smile)

Lars Taylor's Narcissism

Nothing wrong with that. I “motor butt” all the time. In fact, after I “motor butt” the last woman, I drove “legally shitfaced”. Right before, and right after, I snorted crack legally.

Ex-PH2

See my comment down the page. He was conned, so please let it go.

Ex-PH2

Here’s the link to my comment.

Just drop it, will you?

Hondo

Well, duty as a CT in Ezdell, Scotland, and GITMO, Cuba, is almost like being an operator with Navy Special Warfare.

Sheesh. Looks to me like just another lying bastard trying to make a buck by telling bogus stories about his past as part of a scam.

Ex-PH2

This one time in boot camp….

I just read the book review, laughing so much that my dogs think I am losing it.
My take on the author?: “This Muthafucka is batshit crazy.”.

I agree ,
the guy who wrote the review…GENIUS!

” This is the most pointless book written since How to learn French was translated into French”

Dave Hardin

“We never talk about what we did”, except to the press, radio, film, Facebook, Amazon, and across the interwebnet thingy.

This “Fictionalized account” has been used to make all kinds of false claims about his actual service.

The evidence laid out by Firebrand38 is an excellent read.

Well done.

nbcguy54ACTUAL

We did that with helicopters all the time. Inverted Huey, us dressed in MOPP 4, had to time it just right to miss the main rotors. The only way to do NBC Recon!!

A6-what a pussy…

IDC SARC

You gotta try that C-5 nose ramp night HANO jump.

26Limabeans

Or perform a loop and have them step off at the apex.

Martinjmpr

Huey? Hell, you haven’t lived until you’ve made a “nose jump” from a C-5 Galaxy.

Pulling static lines is easy though.

OAE CPO USN Ret

So there I was in a 4G inverted dive. Wearing just my underoo’s and a towel for a cape.

Just another Saturday night on liberty in a classified location.

I could tell you about it, but it’s classified.

OAE CPO USN Ret: You for got to add Eatin a Ham Sandwich, Buuuuuuck Naaaked!

You should try it from the Space Shuttle’s loading door. I’m telling you, when you have to make an atmospheric re-entry carrying a full O2 pack AND a doorgunner’s piglet, plus hope your balloon will pop just as you hit the upper layers – well, I can tell you it puts the Fear of DOG into you right then and there.

2/17 Air Cav

nbc. The only guy I ever heard of who jumped from an inverted Huey and made it through the main rotor untouched was James Walls.

Hondo

“James Walls”? Hmm. That rhymes with something, but I forget what . . . .

A Proud Infidel®™

You haven’t jumped until you’ve exited an SR71 at full throttle on a sooperdoopertrooper top seekritskwirrel mission with tinfoil-lined helmet and goggles…

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Ouch, sometimes stupid is so openly displayed it’s actually painful…this would be author should write science fiction because nothing in his writing is actually possibly within the time frame’s actual technological availability of equipment. Not to mention his ideas about dropping 4 man kill teams from the rear compartment of single seat fighters….must be some kind of shrink technology that reverses itself once the men are dropped out of the aircraft, sounds like science fiction, not ordinary fiction….

If you’re going to tell lies at least take a few hours to research the kind of lies you intend to tell if you’re going to write them down and pretend they were based on your real (aka imaginary bullshit) experiences as a Crypto Tech…dipshit.

Ex-PH2

Yes, those are the special compressed teams. They add water just before they make the jump out of the upside-down airplane flying at 450MPHs.

They’re from the other BUD/S – Basic Underwater Dwarf School. It’s top secret; you wouldn’t know about it.

For this guy, IMO “Bogus Untruthful Dumbazz Scheißekopf” fits better. But maybe that’s just me.

Scheißekopf” – now I have to find a place to use that…

The venue in the second photo tells me he went SUDS training.

“Although many went into the operation not expecting to survive, the team survived the odds and all returned safely.”

That’s convenient. If any had died, he may have had to name names, or at least there would be a research path to his foolishness.

Always with the sniper, SEAL, Ranger, Force Recon, LRRP, etc. I guess being a PFC or Navy Storekeeper doesn’t drop the panties.

Had a good career. Now he’s on the Google hitlist until the end of time. Congrats …

Ex-PH2

“…into the operation…”

Well, not only that, they could have sued the surgeon for malpractice during that surgical strike on behalf of those who didn’t survive the operation.

Please tell me I can use that line on my Twitter? Doc humor with a mil twist is in short supply.

Ex-PH2

Please do so!

‘One editing gaffe that still makes me wake up sweating from a sound sleep is found on page 44 where we read the immortal line, “How was are you doing?” ‘ – from the review of the book. Right here, the lack of editing or even reviewing copy is apparent. Editing your own copy is difficult enough because you created it and you miss things that others will see as glaring errors. All the indie publishers offer editing services, at modest fees. So there is no excuse for this. I won’t make any excuses when I let some sloppy error of mine slip through because I simply didn’t see it. It’s my mistake. But it’s a good idea to get someone else to read your stuff if you’re going to go the indie route, to catch those errors for you. And spellcheck? NOT YOUR FRIEND. PERIOD. Do not depend on it. Furthermore, I really would expect someone serving during the Cold War (always capitalized!) to do a better job of research. It’s one thing to make stuff up because you’re creating fiction. It’s another to pretend that you’ve got your facts straight when you don’t. This wannabe didn’t even bother digging up info about Gary Powers. He just threw it in there. Walking 450 miles into Russia, make the hit and then walk back another 450 miles? Was there a Holiday Inn somewhere along the way where they could stop and catch some zzzz-s and have a dinner break at the coffee shop? I doubt seriously this guy ever walked any further than the distance from the parking lot at the corner liquor store to the checkout stand for a beer purchase and back to his car. Aside from that the scathing review of this attempt at an autobiographical account is hysterically funny. I appreciate the reviewer’s wealth of detail used in debunking this wannabe writer’s stated NONFICTION effort to pull the wool over the eyes of prospective readers. It should have been labeled ‘Fiction – for entertainment purposes only’. However, I can see Bill Murray doing all this stuff,… Read more »

Did you see the “fellow sniper” that gave his book a stellar review on amazon?

Thunderstixx

Heisenberg lives…

Ex-PH2

I’m trying not to laugh at the earnest attempts by people like ‘fellow sniper’, because they are either so easily fooled or they aren’t what the label says they are. Or it’s Billy-boy sockpuppeting himself.

I vote for the sockpuppet effort, myself. There were a couple of 5-star comments on it, both in ALL CAPS, IIRC. When someone says ‘couldn’t put it down’, and it is badly written and full of flaming errors, you have to wonder, don’t you?

John Simpson

That’s not a sock puppet. I know that guy is an actual police sniper who should know better.

Ex-PH2

Okay, thank you for the heads up.

HMC Ret

“I’m not a poser, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.”

If you’re a fan of editorial blunders, as well as history, read some of Bill O’Reilly’s books. I underline the screw-ups in books I read. I have found them in at least two, maybe three (I forget) of O’Reilly’s books. His books are otherwise well-written and, I believe, historical, but those snafus stick out.

Nothing says badass MF like the puffed up chest in the photo.

IDC SARC

at his age it could just be emphysema

Ex-PH2

Naw, he’s just covering up his tummy.

Perry Gaskill

It’s sort of a mystery why Difilippantonio wandered outside his lane into ninja sniperland when he might have been able focus using his actual experience. As a crypto tech with the Naval Security Group, he would have been exposed to secret squirrel stuff at a low level, but still could have used it to come up with a bit more cerebral plot line instead of an action-figure cartoon. For those who might not be aware of it, NSG was involved in signals intel, and its work product went to NSA.

How hard would it have been to build a narrative around what NSG might have been involved in during the time frame and places Difilippantonio was in?

The whole inverted aircraft parachute jump is also an interesting blunder. The F-6 Skyray was indeed a single-seat fighter with a canopy that hinged at the back. The A-6 Intruder, on the other hand, was a side-by-side two seat aircraft with a canopy that slid back on rails, making a jump from it at least less unlikely.

John Simpson

No, he said F6 and that he squeezed in behind the pilot’s seat with all his gear and a parachute.

Perry Gaskill

Exactly. If he had said A-6 instead of F-6, it would have been merely crazy, and not short-bus window-licking crazy.

Green Thumb

Loser.

Master Chief USN

Seems to me this wannabe MF heard about some real events carried out by Special Forces operators during his time in service as a CT, or saw message traffic concerning same. He thought abut this all his life, thinking this would make a good book someday. And, by the way, I can make up some more stories to add to it and say I did it. That way I can look like a badass instead of the jock-strap sniffing weenie I have always been. Nobody will have to know and probably won’t bother to check anyway, right? If they do then I say it’s all classified secret squirrel stuff. Seems like another classic case of trying to overcome the “ordinary life” syndrome at a time when service members are getting more recognition than when he served.

What a dickweed.

C. Long

So another case of someone inflating their career to sell a book.

Maybe a movie deal will make it ok?

🙂

2/17 Air Cav

I see what you did there, you asshole. This guy’s DD214 was not issued to him with errors on it.

Combat Historian

I guess Difilippantonio’s sequel to this book will be how he and his sniper team was ordered aboard USS TIGERFISH in Holy Loch and sent to the North Pole to support a Marine platoon on board to recover a Soviet satellite that had crashed into the ice near an international science station, almost triggering World war III and stuff…

Yea, he kind of resembles Rock Hudson.

I just left a five pound monument, (a masterpiece) to him and the rest of the DRC !!!

I left a 3-coiler that resembled C.Long and exceeded his intellect.

Ex-PH2

I feel kind of sorry for this guy, because he wanted to tell a story. Well, in the military, everybody has a BS story. In the Navy, it’s called sea stories and he should have had a bunch of them to relay, especially since he was stationed at Gitmo. That would be worth reading, especially coming from that time period.

Sorry to say this, but like that photo guy whose claim to fame was that he was on a hillside during the Bay of Pigs stuff shooting pictures while hanging by his toes, when they were actually aerial flyovers and flyby shots, he screwed his own pooch.

Unfortunately, I doubt that he will withdraw this piece of work to do the more appropriate thing. And that’s just a shame.

John Simpson

Actually back in October 2012 he withdrew it from publication and apologized after he read my review.

Copies are now going online for hundreds of dollars.

Ex-PH2

Well, if his writing had the quality of Henry Miller’s tight, direct prose, or H.M. Tomlinson’s simple but eloquent reporting of what he saw during WWI, I could understand that.

Unfortunately, that is not the case, and unless I miss my guess, he got hosed by a vanity press into paying far too much for his effort and wants to get his money back out of it. I’d have to wonder if he bet the farm on this venture.

The difference is that Amazon charges $0 – no fees – to indie authors, ditto Smashwords, and Kobo, unless you want to hire one of their editing teams.

It’s unfortunate that there are still too many gullible people like him who don’t understand the real business of indie authorship and what to avoid.

Jay

Jeez! This book is selling from 96$ to 175$ on Amazon right now!

charles w

It’s worth every penny. This guy was on the team that blew up the missile site that shot down Gary Powers!!!!!!!

Hondo

Yeah, sure he was.

That site was IVO Kosulino, Russia. By ground transport, that’s over 1,800 miles from the former USSR-Afghan border at Termez, and about the same distance from the Russian-Norwegian border NW of Murmansk. Both of those are substantially more than “450 miles inside the USSR”.

charles w

Being sarcastic Hondo. After reading the review I am surprised Macho Grande isn’t in the book.

HMCS(FMF) ret.

Don’t be talking about Macho Grande!

I’ll never get over Macho Grande… and Elaine Ricci!

charles w

Pull up Striker!!!

Propsguy

He picked a hell of a week to quit sniffing glue

Hondo

Thought that might be the case. Just wanted to point out explicitly the absurdity of that specific claim just in case anyone reading this might take it at face value.

I’m going to drop this in here. It’s a link to the SFWA website reviewing the incriminating evidence against so-called vanity presses like Strategic Book Publishing, which are nothing but con games that belong to Publish America or other corporate entities.

http://www.sfwa.org/other-resources/for-authors/writer-beware/alerts/

Strategic Book Publishing is only one of many of PA’s con tricks to get naive people like Bill Anthony to fork over possibly their entire retirement savings for the sake of getting published. SBP’s review and the list of other scam companies run by PA is about halfway down the page.

Be warned and take this seriously. If you want to self-publish, Amazon, Smashwords and Kobo, and other similar indie publishers do not charges fees of any kind for publishing your book, no matter how crappy it may be. You can pay for editing and book design services, or do it yourself.

Difilippantonio was taken advantage of by a scam, like a great many other people who want to be published and could not find a literary agent or a traditional house. While I don’t know how much he forked over to SBP, I’m sure it was far more than he could afford and there is no way he will ever get his money back, period. If he had used an editing service through Amazon, his book wouldn’t be the laughing stock it has become. The only thing those scam companies are interested in is fleecing every cent they can get out of you.

I repeat, a valid indie publisher does NOT do that.

I think the pounding on this very gullible man needs to stop now. He was scammed, but good and is trying to recoup his losses, which likely will never happen now.

Starbux

I am not an Army guy, but my understanding is that in the Army, officers don’t wear their marksmanship qualifications.
