Gun violence up in over-regulated cities
It seems that gun violence has moved into heavily regulated cities and away from lawful gun owners. In the nation’s capital, at this time last year there had been 73 homicides, as of September 1st, there had been 105, a 43.8% change. In Baltimore, last year had seen 144, but this year there have been 221 thus far – a 53% increase. There were 242 non-fatal shootings last year compared to 431 this year. A 78% increase.
You can see the most-recently published Chicago stats for yourself below and add these three to the final count;
I didn’t include Los Angeles where homicides increased by just one over last year’s 170 or St Louis which had a 100% increase from 2 to 4 homicides.
Here’s New York City’s stats which were last published early last month where they’re up 18 murders from the same time period last year. You can throw in a bystander that NYPD shot last week when they were shooting at an arms dealer;
In DC, Police Chief Cathy Lanier blamed “high capacity guns” for the shootings without being able to point to a single incident where a magazine holding more than ten rounds was used in the commission of a crime. When asked by EMily Miller of WTTG what she meant by high-capacity magazines, Lanier responded with some mumbling answer about “100 round drums”. I’m sure we would have heard about a 100-round drum being used in a crime in DC if it had happened. Besides, those drum magazines are already illegal in the District.
The Washington Post reports that more than a quarter of the 4000 police officers in DC have issued a warning, in the form of a no-confidence vote against the chief because they say she has stifled active policing of the city streets, while distracting the media with the high capacity magazine excuse.
In Chicago, Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy blamed weak gun laws for the increased violence in his city back in July. I guess nearly banning guns in Chicago just doesn’t take gun control far enough.
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake , on the other hand, blames gang activity for the violence in her city and she says that the “relationship between the police and the community is critical” and that her police force has taken 100% more illegal guns off the streets this year than last year. She says that white people are welcomed in her city, but, then she attacks the Republican Party as too white. She makes more sense than the leaders of the other cities, but then she crapped on it by making the politics of gun violence a racial issue. I’m pretty sure that white people aren’t bringing illegal guns for the black gangs in Baltimore.
In New York City, the Guardian Angels are back to patrolling the streets and parks, you know, it’s like Dinkins is mayor again and it’s the 90s.
I guess my point is that all four cities which are being oppressed by criminals this summer are also being oppressed by their governments who won’t admit to the failures of their own policies in regards to the crimes being committed in their streets. They are so married to their politics, that it takes precedence over the welfare of their communities, so nothing gets better. Nothing changes, and the folks trapped in these urban gulags suffer most and the Laniers, McCarthys, deBlasios and Blakes hide behind their own walls of armed protection.
By the way, in DC yesterday, a thirteen-year-old girl was shot three times in the legs while she was going home from the local library because she got caught in some random gunfire.
Category: Government Incompetence
How dare you bring facts to this discussion where my opinion on guns (which I’ve never handled and only seen on TV) is all that matters!
Why not? they go where their victims don’t have a weapon! Something the idiots in govt never quite pick up on!!
It’s a toss up between Lanier and Garry McCarthy for dumbest Top Cop in the country. How Lanier has her current job is beyond me.
Maybe this is why – the main complaint from rank and file in the department:
“The rank and file say the real cause for the murder spike is that the department is understaffed and Chief Lanier disbanded the vice units in the community.”
For the LEO’s – You should read her bio – from patrolman to chief in 17 years, all with the same department. Doesn’t that seem odd for a big city police chief?
That’s what you get when you put an EO Quota at the top of any outfit, did she ever earn a promotion on merit alone, or has she played EO politics all the way to where she is?
So what are you saying, API? That Miss Cathy is a whiny, spoiled, incompetent snot?
Uuhhhm yeah, I was kinda definitely MAYBE hinting that and she might have “Ridden the Gender Quota Wagon” to where she is now.
4 years from patrolman to sergeant and 2 more to Lt. Based on what other MPD cops have told me about her “employment” before becoming a police officer, I’m guessing that she has some significant dirt on a lot of folks.
Dare I ask, or should I use my imagination?
That and/or it’s “Who she knew and who she blew” as well!
She went from patrol person to captain in 5 years? Then went from captain to inspector in the same year? Then from inspector to commander in charge of a district in the next year?
Wow, she must have burned through several gross of kneepads in her “rise” in the department.
It’s no wonder that she thinks that “large capacity magazines” make the bullets fired from a weapon “more deadly”. She never spent enough time on the range learning what the parts of her service pistol were, much less how the weapon functioned.
My bad, it took her 6 years to make captain.
Yes it is odd, because they do not make a chief from the ranks in any city worth a shyt! They always hire the top from outside!
When the cops want the police chiefs in 2 major cities thrown out on their behinds, it says something about the incompetence of those two people.
Chicago McCarthy: We’ve taken 4200 illegal guns off the streets. (PROVE IT, ASSHOLE! You never leave desk.)
Lanier: I’m an incompetent ass who knows nothing about weaponry, period.
Unfortunately, the suburbs around these major cities are starting to feel the impact of stupid police chiefs.
Gee whiz, and each of these crime-ridden hellholes have been lorded over by demo-rats for decades with the exception of the Guliani era in NYC. Coincidence? Methinks not. Chicago is just one further living piece of proof of how Gun Control Laws and the pols that pass them do little more than aid, abet, and embolden violent criminals by assuring them via legislation that law-abiding people will be conveniently unarmed VICTIMS.
Crime is up because police officers have clearly received the message from liberal mayors that, by doing their jobs, they are significantly risking their employment and freedom. So, now, the police are acting like anyone else in a zero tolerance organization; they are avoiding all risk by not interacting with criminals causing the inevitable crime spikes. When politicians let the criminals dictate policing methods, the resulting methods are going to be criminal friendly.
Just ask schmucks like Rahm Emanuel. According to him and his ild, it’s all those evil gun shops in the suburbs.
Once the powers that be force those shops to close, then all will be well with the world.
By the way, there was a gun shop that was supposed to open in Arlington, VA. Well, the clowns were having none of that! http://www.newsmax.com/US/guns-arlington-virginia-protest/2015/05/26/id/646802/
Wow who could ever imagine that a place where all the citizens are known to be disarmed would attract criminals to prey on those unarmed citizens?
Let’s not talk about the reality of this violence either…because that would be oh so racist right?
As of August 31, 2015 there 327 murders…249 blacks, 60 hispanics, 11 whites, and 7 race unknown…anyone want to take a wild guess at who the perpetrators might be??? 70% of the known assailants were black, 21% were hispanic and 9% were white/unknown….
So we don’t just have a firearm/2nd amendment issue in Chicago we have an economic reality issue in Chicago. It’s so profitable to sell dope that blacks and hispanics will use firearms to control the areas where drugs are sold…it’s so profitable to sell dope to black and hispanic youths will risk death rather than seek alternative employment…guess who the primary buyers of those drugs are in Chicago? White folks…so we have a criminal economic engine that is responsible for the majority of murders and shooting in Chicago that is run by blacks and hispanics and fueled with the money of white people.
But let’s keep pretending that somehow gun laws or the lack thereof or whatever else is responsible, let’s not take a good long look at how miserably we are failing in our attempts to prosecute the drug war in the United States…let’s keep giving the cops more power and continue to militarize the police because that’s worked so well over the last 40 years…
Because we’ve become a nation of lazy apathetic turds more interested in the Kardashians than our own collective future having any kind of a comprehensive, difficult discussion on the failing of the drug war, the war on poverty, and reality of unequal education and opportunity is impossible. Too many people are far more interested in spouting hyperbole and platitudes because those are easy for the lazy mind to comprehend.
One of the few things I agree with Shrillary on: when she said the problem with the US drug war was not the suppliers, but the consumers. As long as people want, and will pay high dollar, the drugs, someone’s gonna supply them.
Me, I think the crime rate in the country would drop significantly if we made one tiny change in the law and executed drug dealers. Easy money when you can get a rap sheet full of suspended sentences is tempting… easy money when you have a 100% guarantee of dying makes it a whole different equation.
The dealers are taking care of the executions themselves. And just like when the state kills, it doesn’t mean much overall. Sure, that particular executed individual isn’t going to commit another crime but crime doesn’t cease and he will be replaced before he’s cold.
Several Asian countries have the death penalty for smuggling relatively small amounts of drugs (15 grams of heroin or coca one gets you executed in Singapore.)
Hasn’t slowed the trade one bit there, either.
I remember seeing a part of a Malaysian Tourism Pamphlet that said in bold print “Trafficking In Drugs Carries The Death Penalty”, and that was in the late 80’s.
If you want the truly cold-hearted approach, poison the drugs and put them back in circulation.
SSG E… Count me in on your hypothetical as it seems a last chance of taking back this once-civilized country. Just look at this story. It has morphed from guns to drugs. And we wonder why. Time for a rough awakening. Google the following: Black Activists Call For Lynching And Hanging Of White People And Cops.
Only a GED trained journalist could use lynching and hanging in the same sentence. Might be Police Chief material for the cities we have mentioned! The term Cold Hearted just might be a synonym for The Ability To Reason With An Objective Goal. Not speaking for anyone else, but I feel certain there are at least a few others who might be inclined to agree. You get my vote for best idea of the month. Take it one step even further (Oh, I’m such a mean spirited person!)and open a Baskin Robbins Deadly Drug Emporium with 51 flavors to put you out of your misery. “Death by Chocolate”, “Meet Jesus With Vanilla Ride”, the very special “52 Virgins In 52 Minutes With Our 52 Flavors of Muratic Acid”, and of course the always- popular “Eyeball-Poppin’ Purex and Lysol 12 Licks And It’s Over!”
Hey how much different is this when compared to lethal injection?
SeA – on the contrary, places like Singapore or Taiwan have a fraction of the drug problems, and the consequent crime, that we do. Been to both repeatedly.
“so we have a criminal economic engine that is responsible for the majority of murders and shooting in Chicago that is run by blacks and hispanics and fueled with the money of white people.” Even assuming that’s true and, further, that only whites bought drugs in Chicago and only from Black/Hispanic dealers, so what? Don’t look now but when hundreds and hundreds of Blacks/Hispanics are killed selling drugs, who cares other than the local elected politicians, the appointed police chief, and maybe a relative or friend. Even the Black community in the major cities don’t care. “Black Lives Matter” only when a white police officer does the killing; otherwise, not so much.
Indeed nobody cares, not really except to issue these idiotic concepts that taking your firearm changes the dynamic of these cities somehow…it’s patently untrue but as long we keep talking about that we don’t address the root issue which is having a sensible drug policy and an appropriate judicial response. We keep pretending that more cops in full battle gear will help, except it doesn’t.
Everyone pisses and moans about some welfare cow buying some shellfish on the tax dollar but no one seems to mind hundreds of billions fighting a drug war so poorly that 90% of the drug trade flourishes untouched by US drug police whose only function is stop the drug trade…
We can’t shine a spotlight on that reality because as long as the deaths are confined generally to certain neighborhoods nobody gives a flying fuck what happens…until it creates an opportunity to attack the 2nd amendment then a lot of silly hyperbole from both sides, then nothing until the next time.
Our parents and grand parents were the greatest generation and now we’ve become the something far less worthy.
Yep. That 3rd para of yours nailed it.
For those of us who legally wear our loaded firearm in public, whether openly or concealed, we need to be aware of this threat from the more militant “Gun Control” advocates:

Yeah, once again the NYPD proves that they’re the world’s foremost experts on the fine art of shooting bystanders…
