William W. Roe Jr.; phony DFC pilot

| December 6, 2014

William W. Roe Jr.

I guess the media is getting interested in these phony stories these days. One of our ninjas sent us an article from the Watertown Daily Times about this fellow, William W. Roe Jr., who had lied to them back in September about his Distinguished Flying Cross. They since removed that article, but thanks to magic of the internet cache, it still exists.

He claimed that he was a pilot with the CIA’s Air America and had earned a Distinguished Flying Cross for his efforts. He went off the rails with his story when he tried to join the Distinguished Flying Cross Society and get a scholarship from them for a relative. At first, the Society accepted him based on a poorly forged citation for the DSC, but then he went to the Times with his phony story and it all began to fall apart;

“I’m terribly embarrassed and ashamed,” said Mr. Roe, who declined to discuss the documents he forged to become a member of the society. “You’re about to put something in the paper that my family and friends are going to see, and there’s nothing I can do. … I’m 71 years old and have never done a thing like this before. It was a narcissistic thing to do. I was an Air Force intelligence guy to begin with, and there are some other things that developed from it. I’m sorry for every American in the United States that this happened.”

Yeah, he’s ashamed and embarrassed that he was caught – not that he’s embarrassed and ashamed that he did it.

Mr. Roe, a resident of Newark, Del., who has a seasonal home in Sackets Harbor, might not have had his false account of how he received the DFC award exposed had he chosen to hide from the public limelight. But a group of pilots from across the country probed the 71-year-old’s military background after the Times published the original story.

Yeah, that’s how most of them get busted. If you could see my inbox….

Captain Dumbass here also submitted a letter from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs about his “classified” records. Two things wrong here – discharges aren’t classified and the VA isn’t the repository of military discharge documents. And, oh, the address in the letterhead of that document is a cemetery.

Mr. Roe will escape prosecution because the DFC isn’t one of the covered awards in the Stolen Valor Act of 2013 – but it seems that the local federal prosecutor would want his ass for forging government documents, but, of course, it’s not sexy to prosecute a 71-year-old liar.

Three of these assholes in one day… And it ain’t even noon !!!

“I’m 71 years old and have never done a thing like this before.” Sure you did. What you did was aggregate your lies and regard them as a package deal. It doesn’t work that way, Billy “Mitchell” Roe, Jr.

Hack Stone

Maybe he can redshirt for this year’s tournament. Sort of like the movie Rudy for posers.

MrBill

“It was a narcissistic thing to do.”

One of the truest statements ever made by a poser.

2/17 Air Cav

I like the suggestion, Hack, but the problem is that subs and walk-ons aren’t allowed. He can watch this year’s tourney, however, and know with full confidence that he has earned a starting spot in next year’s tourney.

jagc

Got to give him credit. It was a very good apology. If he sticks to it (and we know that’s rare) it seemed rather contrite.

2/17 Air Cav

Yeah, just as the next defendant is deeply religious because he’s carrying the Bible, not because he got it from the previous defendant in the courthouse lock up. Of course he’s apologetic. He has a seasonal home. That probably means he has some dough. Here’s an idea: Donate $10,000 to keep TAH going strong. Now, that’s an apology with some meat on its otherwise bare bone.

Yankee Texan

I’m ashamed this shitbag is from my hometown.

CLAW131

I see by reading the faked up VA letter that he tried to lay claim to a DFC w/OLC, but the information contained in the citation was “too sensitive for release”. Yea,right. He was just trying to bolster his claim for the DFC Society.

I was stationed there at Drum a while back. I always enjoyed going to Sackets Harbor to visit my family that lived there. My uncle has lived there since he returned from Vietnam where he earned the BSV and PH. Prior to that he completed Ranger school. He’s got a good reputation up there and knows everyone in Sackets and Watertown. I’ll have to forward this to him.

Planet Ord

It also irks me because my father earned the DFC while flying over Cambodia in 1971. He never mentioned it. I didn’t know it until after he died.

This guy is a douche.

John "Faker 6" Giduck

I like this guy.

Like me, William W. Roe Jr just needs a bit more credible references. I’ll talk to LTC Dave Grossman about bringing him as a speaker on the Sheepdog Seminar circuit.

Apparently, everything that falls out of LTC Dave Grossman’s mouth is a pearl of wisdom that has to be true. One drop of Grossman’s spittle alone causes rainbows and heals kittens. The sheep….err…..I mean…the cops and armed school guards will love him.

This douche may not be prosecuted by the local DA, but he can and should be publicly shamed.
The local rag could and should publish a (series of) story/stories about how to spot a SV weenie, using Mr Fish Eggs as a prime example.
And then everyone in town should poke, scoff at, and make fun of this jerk. Be surprising how effective this technique isxwhen used effectively by a large group.

Green Thumb

Maybe this turd needs to get hold of Frank Visconi and Jerry Vroombout to forge some quality documents.

Mary

He already has forged docs. The citations are amazing Just waiting for records to come in.
