Richard Rahn arrested
You may remember Richard Rahn who we featured the other day when he dressed up in the uniform of a sergeant major at a gathering in Minnesota. Well, apparently, the local LEOs have arrested him for being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to a link sent to us by John from CBS Minnesota;
Authorities say they had received a tip that Rahn had a felony conviction in another state, thus making it illegal for him to have certain firearms.
Another warrant was served Wednesday at a storage unit in Willmar, where officers seized two more firearms, as well as a U.S. Army dress uniform adorned with medals and insignias.
Police had received complaints that Rahn was posing as a highly decorated officer.
Investigators are determining whether Rahn’s use of the uniform violates a federal statute.
Let me help; He’s wearing a Purple Heart and a Soldiers Medal, so yeah, smoke him.

According to the news release, a number of complaints had been received recently of a Willmar resident posing as a highly decorated officer in the United States Army. According to the complaints, the individual appeared in uniform at various events and claimed to have served in the Army Rangers. A Facebook user reported spotting the alleged impersonator at the Olivia VFW Aug. 9.
The individual was identified as Rahn and some people also reported to police that the individual had a criminal record in another state.
I feel somewhat gratified that Stolen Valor is now recognized by the general public, whereas a few years ago, the dude might have got away with it. But as I’ve said, stolen valor is just a symptom in these people. There’s always something else that they’ve done which is illegal.
ADDED: Guardians of Valor say that he never served a day in the military. I know, I’m shocked, too.

Every time one of these guys is uncovered, I see such deep hatred and rage directed toward the accused individual that you can cut it with a knife. I served in ‘Nam as a Marine enlisted guy, and retired from then retired from the Army after over thirty years of service. Perhaps there is something wrong with me, but somehow, try as hard as I might, I can’t work up any anger towards these guys. We came home from ‘Nam, and were made to feel so low, that we were ashamed of our short hair, and to be seen in our uniforms in public. We were beneath contempt. Read the stories on these guys, the overwhelming majority of them are using their “pretend service” to do far me than just play dress up. The majority of them are involved in criminal activity or otherwise seeking tangible gain from their dress up game.
So, it is not a “victimless crime”, and the Crusade will go on until they all finnally get the message that they are not going to get away with it!

You make much of your poor treatment on returning from Vietnam, as if that somehow should excuse people being sh!tbags. That is a false argument. Sh!tbaggery is sh!tbaggery, regardless of how the individual was treated previously.
Rahn is nothing but a con man, a thief, and a felon. He’s apparently been using his fake “military service” as a part of his con, to get stuff he doesn’t deserve. That reflects badly on every vet who ever served, then got on with an honest civilian career. THAT I have a problem with. Every honest vet should.
FWIW: Rahn isn’t a Vietnam vet, so playing the “Vietnam vet” card on his behalf isn’t remotely apropos. Rahn is about 54. He was about 11 when the last US combat troop left Vietnam, and about 13 when the last POW came home.
I’m sure you have no problem with fake physicians, fake dentists, fake undertakers. Need help with your taxes? Take them to a fake CPA. When you get in trouble with the IRS, I have a fake lawyer I can recommend. You’ll love him. And remember, vote for Dickey!

It is all to often a cheap imitation of American engineering that used to be something of high quality, but when copied and made in China, it becomes a worthless non-functioning POS. While I understand, and in some part agree, with much that you are saying, Ron, Stolen Valor today is not what you and I experienced back in the day. Sure, there is some level of flattery in having people pretend to be us, but the folks who are doing it now are well beyond the goofy kid every town used to have who paraded around in pieces of Uncle Joe’s WWII uniform.
Valor thieves today are defrauding the VA with false claims and forged documents thus depriving real vets of benefits. Every charitable organization which serves vets has been taken in by a valor thief, again depriving a real vet in need of some service. Courts and law enforcement officials are also being victimized by valor thieves.
An important function that we veterans are doing, beyond shaming individual valor thieves, is educating the judicial system of this problem. Feedback from cops and courts is that they also observe (when they look for it) that claiming unearned military honors and service is always just the tip of the iceberg. They are learning to look deeper when they encounter folks claiming vet status and throwing out the PTSD excuse for bad behavior.
Has every jurisdiction learned this lesson yet? Hardly, but many more today are looking behind the fake uniform than were doing so 10 years ago thanks to the vets within their departments and we outside the system asking them to look at the reality.
Can’t speak for others, but what you hear from me is righteous indignation, not hatred. Will admit to occasional fits of rage directed toward those who justify the commission of murder, rape, and depriving deserving vets of services based upon lies of military service. Actual vets who served honorably enough to be honorably discharged who now falsely claim POW status or having earned a Purple Heart get my goat as well.
But hatred and rage? Naw, don’t see much of that.

Also note what we do with hackers today (prison) vs. what we did with them in 1983 (hire them). Same with SV dirtbags. It might have been a harmless prank in the ’60s but not anymore.

What’s all the fuss about, if he wants to be a Sergeant Major let him, The solution is very simple, first make him earn it, prison is to good for him, real combat will change his attitude, sentence him to 1 year of combat duty fighting ISIS, this kind of guy doesn’t need basic or any other king of training his medals tell that, monitor his action on his return and if he seems the same send him back for another tour.
