John Marcus Alberti; The phony Seal that time forgot
Mary and Don Shipley send us the story in Auburn (Washington State) Reporter about the sad death of John Marcus Alberti who died alone in the hospital in April. Two of his friends went digging for information about his life and somewhere they found his military “records”;
After reading through his record they discovered that Alberti had been a highly-decorated Navy SEAL.

Alberti received extensive training during his tenure: six months underwater demolition training; two months of airborne training with the SEALs; Navy special war training; five months training in intelligence with the CIA; and other operations.
He completed courses in rapid deployment, strike force, command school, paramedics, and crypto/communications and had other special training.
After five years in Vietnam, he came home highly decorated: Navy Cross; two Silver Stars; Bronze Star; Vietnam Service with Clusters; President Unit Citation; Individual Presidents Citation (he was personally decorated by President John F. Kennedy); Special Operations Citation; Navy Commendation; military Advisor Medal; and five Purple Hearts.
Records show he was in five major battles: 1959 Long Xuyen; 1960 Saigon; 1961 Phu Vihn; 1963 Danang; and 1964 Can Tho.He was a prisoner of war from March to October 1962. No information was available regarding his release.
Alberti was discharged on Sept. 24, 1965, leaving the service with the rank of Senior Chief Gunners Mate E-8. He was born Sept. 24, joined Sept. 24, re-enlisted Sept. 24 and was discharged Sept. 24.
At the time of his discharge, Alberti refused all military benefits.
There’s probably a good reason that he refused all military benefits; he’d been outed at the old POW Network in 2006 as a phony who had never served even one day ever in the military in any service;
So the military records that his friends “found” were actually the phony military records that poor John had fabricated. And now the last laugh is on Alberti’s friends and the veterans who took part in the ceremony and laid his cremated remains to rest beneath this marker commemorating a career that never happened among real heroes who really did serve;
But it makes a nice news story doesn’t it? If you ignore the facts.

This makes me sad. Not for John Marcus Alberti but for all the true SEAL veterans and those who did give their lives to this country. There was truly no last laugh in this for anyone.
Exposing these frauds can be an ugly business. Not everyone has the stomach for it. People use the term Valor Police…..as if it is a bad thing.
I have the stomach and proper lining for it … As I will demonstrate in coming months!
There is still hope for me to be remembered as a “survivor of eight conflicts”.

Ah, yes, the Battle of Saigon, November 1960: I remember it well. There I was, there I was, there I was, knee deep in shell casings, M-60 links, and grenade pins, when Navy SEAL John Marcus Alberti tapped me on the shoulder and said “Fall back now, I got this…”
I’m surprised he could walk with the size of that can of whoopass he had on his back. I’ve got the pictures and the hat to this day. I have the hat.

Since I live in Auburn and get the Auburn Reporter (fish wrap) I read this article yesterday with great intrest, and something did not fit, couldn’t figure it out, just a little to much “this is no shit” type of war stories. I will now have to send a letter to the editor, which will make me out as the bad guy, but what the hell.
There is probably a reason he “died alone”. With shitbags like this there is no telling how much he fucked over his family members with lies, theft and general ass-hattery.
I concur, and I see his legacy as another example of SCPO Shipley’s quote “A lot of these guys will take their lies with them all the way to their graves.”.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the Dickey For Congress Campaign.
He is also inturned at Tahoma National Cemetery among real vetreans, not far from where a very good friend of mine who served with the 101st in VietNam. I am not sure how they move a phony from there, but look into it.
AL Post 78 is the one that performed the ceremony. They have been contacted regarding this and have told me that they are in the process of determining whether or not the DD-214 that was provided by Mr. Alberti’s girlfriend is, indeed, forged. That’s all I’ve been able to verify so far

They removed all pictures from their Facebook page, which included the local PGR and Legion riders and a couple of sailors, pertaining to Mr. Alberti. Their Facebook admin has informed me that they are looking into how to get him disinterred from the Tahoma National Cemetery. They are pretty sickened by what happened
Also, they have been in contact with Don Shipley and are, apparently, satisfied that the documents provided by his girlfriend are, indeed, forged
Received word from the admin of Legion Post 78. Mr. Alberti is being disinterred tomorrow

There are few posers out there that probably have nickname for their Shop Vac, such as The Love Machine.
Not if you use a wet-sump shop vac, MCPO.
Besides, a leaf blower would scatter the pollution. A wet-sump shop vac keeps it fully contained for proper disposal. All you have to do afterwards is pour out the liquid, rinse the reservoir, dump the reservoir a second time – then flush.

Military Advisor Medal? Where is mine? I did advise local nationals in 2004 while in Iraq, as they helped rebuild their buildings and infrastructure in Baghdad?? I did 30 days of this duty, so where’s mine.

I find this pretty sad all of the way around but mainly I fault the local newspaper, The American Legion, The National Cemetery where he was interred and The VFW. Does the person in charge of The National Cemetery not check out the friggen records of people it buries there beforehand??????
If his friends found the “records” that this ass clown stashed they may have just went wow and bought it as who would falsify that? Many people out there still don’t realize just how pervasive this shit is.
Oh, and tell me again how stolen valor is victimless? Better yet, tell every family member who has a loved one buried there.
Like most other VA activities, jonp, National Cemeteries take whatever is provided by a vet/their NOK as documentation. Unless it’s so obviously false as to be immediately recognizable as false, they don’t usually cross-check it against official records. Timely verification is not always possible for funerals anyway, since the verification process takes a bit of time. Verification has to be done by mail or fax; it generally can’t be done electronically in real time.
Bottom line: there’s a good chance they won’t catch a faked doc unless it’s a REALLY BAD fake or is truly outlandish (and maybe not even then). And Vietnam was long enough ago now that not that many folks today know very much in the way of details about that war.
With fewer and fewer folks out there who know what “right looks like”, I’m afraid we’re going to see a lot more of this over the next decade or two.
Hondo. It is also the responsibility of the funeral director who is often working on behalf of the family as an agent. In fact most states have strict license procedures and cover the proper duties of the agent. Therefore, funeral directors need to know, ask for proper documents and check when thy hair sticketh up on back of necketh!

I see your point Hondo but I should think that National Cemeteries which are the last stop for our nations finest would all have a “hotline” installed to expedite all records of those that claim service. I would also hope that any director that has a mans family show up with a loved one that claims more than a trifecta of purple hearts would take a second to validate the claim. It should have set off bells right there.
