Danan L. Edwards, Marine service made him snap
ChipNASA sends us a link to the story about Danan L. Edwards. In mid-May, this former Marine was arrested for assaulting a North Syracuse police officer, Robert Florian, who was investigating a hit-and-run accident.
Edwards has been charged with two felonies, second-degree assault and assault on a police officer. He was also charged with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.
Police say Edwards struck Florian several times and that the assault was sudden and unprovoked.
So today, Syracuse.com reports that his lawyer told the court that his time in the Marine Corps affected Edward’s judgement;
A Syracuse veteran accused of a savage, unprovoked attack on a North Syracuse police officer partially blamed the attack on debilitating emotional trauma he suffered while in the Marines.
Danon Edwards, 33, said through his lawyer that his military service left him emotionally scarred and unable to work. He told is lawyer, Chris Gaiser, that he served in the “Gulf War.”
Yeah, the first time we ever heard that, right? Well, the article continues;
Edwards was actually a peacetime food service worker and never left the country, according to the U.S. Marines.
His record shows he was a Marine from July 19, 1999 to Jan. 31, 2003. He had the rank of private and served as a “food service specialist.”
There’s no indication of overseas assignment or deployment, the Marines noted.
In court, Gaiser said Edwards’ service “may have had an effect on his emotional stability.”
Thanks, Blue Falcon.

It’s true. His not being deployed to a war zone while everyone else was should have been traumatizing as a Marine.
ROFLMAO
Not when your MOS is tray rats warmer upper…
Being away from the French Fry maker made him antsy.
Whats in your Marine version of SOS that makes the cooks go crazy?
Jungle Juice.
The shingle’s main ingredient is hand ground peyote flour.
Made it all the way to Pvt, did he. Don’t even need to see his record. Reservist, spent most of his ‘career’ UA from drill. Making life hell for the company office one weekend a month.
If I worked at the Chow Hall, I’d have snapped too.
/Or DFAC as you “kids” call it.
Damn Few:
“This guy was a dick before he joined the military, he was a dick while in the military, some people are just born dicks”.
Carry on!
That’s one high speed cook to make Pvt after four years.
Isn’t the Corps similar to the Army in that, as long as you don’t screw up too badly, you make E2 at 6 mos and E3 at a year?
Flagwaver,
Yes it is. If my memory serves me correctly, it is 6 months for E-2 (PFC) and 9 months for E-3 (LCpl)
That is correct. It looks like this stellar Marine was discharged at about the 3 1/2 year mark of a 4 year enlistment. I would say he attained the rank of private twice and the second time was due to being a shit stain.
You never know what the stress of flippin’ burgers can do to a man.
A 4 year Private? Model of core values I’m sure.
Aw, come on, guys. Cut him and his PPTS some slack. What? You haven’t heard about Post Potato Trauma Syndrome yet? Yeah, it’s common among food handlers but unlike regular PTS causes it’s sufferers to attack police officers and bakers in an apparent rage caused by donut envy.
One can only peel so many potatoes before they start talking to you. After awhile you begin carving little faces on them and give them personalities. But then you have to cut them up and fry them for everyone to eat. The horror!!! Your friends are being eaten!! That would send anyone over the edge.
The cook’s desire to suddenly and without proviocation beat the shit out of anyone in uniform is called Gulp War Syndrome. You see, every food complaint he ever heard came from someone in uniform. After years of hearing such complaints, well, let’s just say he was a ticking bombe glacée and when he saw the officer in uniform, he exploded.
I know he received the out briefing on latent SOS fumes flashbacks during separation out processing. The acknowledgement form was part of my retirement physical paperwork back in the day.
Just a lowly, lowly cook. (smirk)
By the way, SOS was my favorite breakfast. All it needed was two runny eggs, salt, pepper, hot sauce, catchup and mustard and it wasn’t too bad.
He..he wuz jus’ tri’ng ta be hepful fo da po-po an..an..an he..he hadda big mac n large fries attack!
It was that smell of grease at McD’s that gave him flashbacks.
Reckon we won’t have to guess what his work detail assignment will be in prison…
Ass Rapee??
Spoonee of the day??
Honorable discharge as an E1 and didn’t even serve a full enlistment?
What a sucmbag. I hope when he’s found legally guilty of his already factually guilty charges the judge adds on some time for his poor attempt to mislead the court.
It’s at least theoretically possible, FatCircles. An individual getting an admin discharge for multiple Article 15s/NJPs doesn’t necessarily get an OTH or General. The approval authority can approve an Honorable.
Why they would, I dunno; IMO, that never should happen. But it happens sometimes.
I hope the judge has the balls to make an example out of him. Disgrace to all veterans and total waist of human flesh.
Shitbag lawyers need to be cuffed about head and ears for pulling this shit.
Chances are they thought up the idea of trying to use the guys service in the first place, or they never thought to look the guys real record up.
Its as much on the dickhead lawyer as it is on the shitbird former egg-slapper.
I might not be so hard on the lawyer. It could be the case of another overworked public defender who just took the guys word that he served. Not too long ago I always did, I mean, who would lie about their service?
During my three times at MCCES in 29 Palms (I am a multiple offender), the standard operating procedure was to place the newbies from boot camp waiting for a school seat on mess duty. So, my question is, are those hard charging Devil Dogs waiting for a slot in cook school sent out on working parties to fix radios?
It’s darned hot in the mess hall. That’s close to how hot it must have been in the “Gulf War”…I guess.
“Gulf War” ??? As in the one in 1991? I don’t claim to be a math magician or anything but the Gulf War was 23 years ago. If this doofus is 33 …he’d be * counts fingers * …* loses count * …* recounts *
TEN! He’d be ten years old when the Gulf War started and ended.
When your country needs quiche on the front lines age doesn’t matter. You answer the call
So that shell fragment was really an eggshell fragment?
“Another piece of god damn pie”? “We are out of sugar?” “WTF I said 1tsp salt not two”
Yeah, I can see how that would make him snap
There’s lots of our brothers and sisters still serving on active duty, despite this regime and it’s useful idiots’ best efforts.
Lots of those brothers and sisters are at the mercy of the Cooks on a daily basis.
Let us not endanger the health and sanity of our brothers and sisters by talking smack about the Cooks and their efforts, please!
We should speak well of the cooks and bakers; without them it’s a world of Meals Refused by the Enemy.
I grew quite fond of SOS; in fact there’s a casino about an hour and a half away that makes it just like the cooks did when I was in the Air Force. I go there just for the SOS; it’s good, or maybe, there’s something wrong with me.
33 years old and a veteran of the Gulf War?? Uhhh, I’m 31 and I think I was 8 years old and learning multiplication when the gulf war was happening. Hell, my older brother had barely marched out of Kapooka before it kicked off!!
Is this guy smoking some premium drugs??
