American Humanist Association; the easily shocked
Fox News reports that the American Humanist Association is urging government leaders to remove a World War One memorial from a park in Prince George’s County in Maryland because the memorial is in the shape of a cross. The memorial has been there since 1925.
Steven Lowe, a plaintiff from Washington, said was “shocked” when he first saw the cross and is “upset” whenever he passes it, according to the complaint obtained by the newspaper.
“He believes that the Bladensburg Cross associates a Christian religious symbol with the state and gives the impression that the state supports and approves of Christianity, as opposed to other religions, and that the state may even prefer Christians and Christianity over other religions,” the complaint reads.
What a grown up – he’s shocked and upset by the sight of a memorial. I’m shocked and upset that people like this are able to live among us without being publicly shamed. I’m not a religious person, it’s been a decade or so since I’ve been in a church, yet seeing a cross in public space doesn’t compel me to attend a Christian gathering, or make me change my mind about religion or religious institutions. Lowe must be a fairly weak person if he’s so ashamed of his own life choices. If he’s so upset, maybe he could try not passing the memorial.
Next thing you know, these weak-minded busy-bodies will have us removing the tens of thousands of crosses on graves of US troops around the world, since those cemeteries are technically US government property, too.
For a bunch of people so worried about people’s rights, they sure like to trample on our heritage while ignoring our rights.
Category: Liberals suck
Hey Steve, it’s Freedom OF Religion, not Freedom FROM Religion.
He doesn’t give a rat’s a** about religion. This is only about power and control, and nothing else.
Next time someone uses the phrase “seperation of church and state” ask them to point it out in the Constitution.
Ka…CHING!
+1
Question. Do these liberal, ass hole fucktards really have nothing more important in their life to dwell on or consider (considering all that is going on in our nation and the world now) than crap like this? A symbol since 1925 to honor WWI veterans. They miss that point I guess and jump right to the “a cross is a religious symbol and that hurts my little feelings”. Fuck these folks up, down and sideways and tell them to go get a life…any life with value and meaning. Because this shit sure isn’t one of any value to anyone except their own selfish little egos.
I’m offended by their offense. I’m filing a lawsuit. 😀
Since people bring lawsuits against stuff like this all the time, can someone bring a suit against them for trying to define how others think or feel? Seriously, I’m truly curious.
Lets make it a class action.
No, they don’t, and they don’t care whose feelings get hurt, because it’s all about THEM, not about you.
I would rather hear about this than gay rights.
It gets old.
As a liberal asshole fucktard -and an atheist!- … I have no problem whatsoever with this cross. I hope it brings comfort to people.
This guy is just an idiot.
Oh for crying out loud….little pussy.
Great to see Sparks up and running, I wholeheartedly agree with his statement.
Thanks Eggs. Glad to be back, though I have to censor myself because of the pain meds sometimes. 😀
Oh DUH!! Hey Sparks. Hope you’re feeling better. I was out on travel for 4 or 5 days and snow crap.
WELCOME BACK!!
Hey Sparks – I’m guessing Chip hasn’t heard your “hospital story”.
I found the link. Want me to post it for him so he can “read all about it”? (smile)
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Okay ChipNASA since you were away I will post my hospital story for you. Here you go. You WILL NOT believe what I did Tuesday morning at the hospital. I was sitting there waiting on the nurse. I knew they were going to come to take out my catheter, which I was happy for. So, what do I do? Thinking I am helping them and me, I start to pull it out…myself. It gets harder and harder and the little rubbery catheter tube is starting to get stretched out like a rubber band. So I think, well, I’ve seen these come out before, no big deal right? You just have to pull, it’s probably hung up where it goes under the pelvic bone. So I give it a GOOD pull and OH YES, IT COMES OUT THEN!!!!!! Along with the 1 plus inch bulb on the end with the 10 CCs of water in it!!! Who knew it had one of those do-hickeys!? No one ever briefed me about it! I find later it is there to keep it from coming out by itself. Duh!! (You see, I remembered then and of course too late, that before THE NURSES pull it out they use a syringe to remove the water in the bulb.) Go figure. I immediately start bleeding profusely like I was giving birth through my, you know, man hole. I mean blood going everywhere! Because I am rather…upset and moving about a lot despite a bad knee. (Ask any guy and they can quickly tell you how to triage wounded body parts and which one is first!) Then “they” walked in and looked at me and exclaimed, “WHAT DID YOU DO!!??” Now, I thought that was a rather superfluous question from the nurses. It seemed pretty obvious to me, since I was sitting there with the suspect weapon in my hand and the bedside sheet, my legs and the floor covered in blood. But they said they had seen it happen before so it should be okay (yea, easy for them to say)…ugh the thought of it even… Read more »
Well, I guess I don’t have to worry about posting the link after all . . . . (smile)
Holy crap…. I just aabout pissed myself laughing here.
Sparks, I hope you don’t mind but I am sharing this story on facebook, considering I do not know your real name you shall be safe from the world know it was you.
Some things I would never mess with, and one of them being any tube a Doctor or Nurse has placed inside my body, especially a tube up the old pee hole.
Holy Fucking Tennis Ball pulled put through the pee hole funny.
I am SO sorry Sparks. Well at least you have another…NO SHIT, I was THERE story.
that’s it dag nab it. I am shocked and offended and still cringing under my desk from seeing Sparks story yet again. I think I’m suffering from some PTSD. I’m suing, anyone have that phoney chief’s phone number?
It hurts just thinking about what happened! Owwwwww!
Sparks – Well at least it was shaped like a bulb and not like a cross.
Great, I was just back on solid foods and he tells the story again……..
Imagine the trama he’d get if he ever read “In Flanders Fields”…
We need to start suing these asshats for shocking and upsetting us with their ignorance.
I don’t recall any Constitutional guarantee of “not being offended”, Steve Lowe. So how about you grab a big mug of STFU (one translation is “steaming, tasty fried udon”; others are possible) – and shut yer yap.
That asshole needs a throat punch from Jesus!!
Even Jesus wouldn’t be able to get his hands clean after touching this clown.
Sorry Twist. I hit Submit before I saw your big NOOOOOOOOOOO! Sorry brother.
Steven Lowe offends me. Can I sue in court to have him removed from the country? Nothing is sacred to these fuckwads. A simple memorial turns this supposedly grown man into a whimpering spineless jellyfish? Why haven’t the courts taken the same view on these memorials that they have over the Christmas holiday? They’ve become so secularized that they’ve lost any religious meaning.
I’d call him a whiny little child but little children have a valid excuse for their behavior.
What you can’t make out in that picture is that the emblem in the center of the cross is The American Legion’s emblem. So we are currently filing an amicus brief, which I will write about when I get it.
But to say that this one is our best chance at a win is an understatement. This one all the facts and case law are in our favor, so it might get tossed before it even really gets going.
So widdle Stevie is offended by the sight of the Memorial. Here’s an idea, Stevie – if the sight of the Memorial upsets you when you drive by it, just don’t drive by it!
Meanwhile, nobody really cares if you are offended by a Memorial, widdle Stevie. You obviously have problems which the removal of a Memorial would not solve.
Or close your eyes when you drive by it and drive into a friggin’ tree…..
Ha ha, very funny! Stevie Wonder is a musical genius! (Yeah, I’m showing my age too. But nice Eddie Murphy reference.)
Drive by it fast and don’t wear your seat belt.
Lowe, according to the suit, lives some four miles from the memorial and, on average, the suit states, passes it about once per month. Yeah, I bet he drove by it 24 times a day or two before the suit was filed so that the statement would be true. He has lived in DC since 1982. The size and prominence of the cross seems to be a key issue, which may, in fact, prove to be the suit’s downfall. If size matters, then the principle at issue is meaningless.
I have an easy solution. Tell the j-hole to use US1 or US50 vice Bladenburg Road when he crosses the Anacostia River. I’m pretty sure he can’t see the cross from either.
The Peace Cross is apparently in an island in the middle of the intersection where Bladenburg Road splits (to become Baltimore Avenue and Annapolis Road) immediately after it crosses the Anacostia River. US1 takes him to Decatur Ave, which crosses about 1/2 mile north of the cross. US50 crosses about 1 mile south of that location.
If he insists on using Bladenburg Road, well, then he’s freely choosing to drive immediately next to something he finds upsetting. So if he’s being repeatedly offended, IMO that’s self-inflicted offense – AKA manufactured outrage.
Oh, by the way, that word on the bottom of the cross in the pic above is “VALOR.”
It’s not like this monument went up last week or last year, it’s been there since before this chucklehead’s grandaddy was out of diapers, yet he just now became shocked and upset? Why wasn’t he that way 5 years ago? Why did it take until now?
He wants attention, that’s why.
“Why wasn’t he that way 5 years ago”? He’s been too busy celebrating Obama’s elections and his marriage to Bruce, he just noticed that he’s offended.
Unless you haven’t been paying attention at all when I right it’s a safe bet to assume I am the opposite of religious and often write things that are probably offensive to those who might be religious…but I’ve never been offended by any cross or any other religious symbol anywhere in the land. Nativities on the town green are not a problem for me for a couple of reasons, the first being that no matter what douche bags like Steve Lowe (aka panty waist) think, this nation was founded by people who believed in the teachings of Jesus Christ and wanted to practice that belief without any interference from a state sanctioned mandatory religion….no students of Islam, no Jews, no Hindus, no Buddhists, and no atheist shitheads had anything to do with risking the full weight of antagonizing the British empire to start this nation….a monument erected in honor of the men who died serving their country in the shape of a cross and wishing those honored dead an eternal peace they did not receive in this life is only offensive if you are a complete and total asshole.
There is no government religion threatening Steve Lowe, there is only the asshole Steve Lowe being a douchebag by threatening a lawsuit over nothing…Steve Lowe should check his wife’s purse for his testicles because I suspect she hasn’t let him use them for some time now and that’s why his tender sensibilities are offended by a piece of stone in a park…fuck you Steve Lowe, you sir are an asshole and deserve nothing but complete and utter disrespect from self respecting Americans throughout the nation….I hope you receive all the Karma you are due for asshattery of this magnitude you shithead Steve Lowe….
What you said, plus 10!
when I right should read when I write, damn auto correct….
I hate auto correct. The other day I sent a text to my wife and it changed my daughter’s name. It made it sound like she was a Hispanic gardener.
I have a friend named Rafe, which autocorrect is bound and determined to change to “Rape”. That’s a little awkward.
Try adding “Rafe” to the word processor’s custom dictionary. Most modern editors have one and allow users to add commonly-used terms/acronyms/etc . . . , that their standard dictionary doesn’t like.
My daughters name is Ramie and it changes it to Rafiel.
You can also tell him to go into Word’s options sections and turn off autocorrect. Then it will stop and ‘Rafe’ will be underlined instead of replaced.
I hate autocorrect, also, because I sometimes make up words for stuff in a story and Word doesn’t understand what I’m doing at all.
like the story where they guy gets a text from his buddy confessing to tapping his wife for years… so he shoots her, right before the second text that says “damn this autocorrect, I meant to say ‘wifi’
This does seem a little overboard, but it’s really a long-simmering backlash dating back to Ronald Reagan and his unholy alliance with Ralph Reed types and the christian right, people who continue to try to insinuate their doctrine into every facet of public and private life.
Zip it, Joe. The atheist movement has been pulling shit like this for nearly a century. Only in the last 50 years or so has anybody given a shit about what they had to say, with a little help from the ACLU.
Um, Joe . . . that monument has been at its current location since 1925. Reagan was 14 years old and still living in Dixon, IL, at the time.
The monument was rededicated in 1965. Reagan was in CA at the time, preparing to run for governor.
I kinda doubt Reagan had a damn thing to do with this issue. Of course, if you didn’t have those red-tinted lens implants, you’d realize that.
A little overboard? This is just some jerkoff attempting to draw attention to a complete non-issue. This was not a monument erected last year by christian fundamentalists, it’s an 80 year old monument that’s been in this jerkoff’s neighborhood since he moved in. If it was not offensive for the first years of his being in the neighborhood the idea that seeing something maybe once a month has suddenly become offensive to the necessity of initiating litigation is ludicrous on every level.
Yet you see no problem with atheists and “humanists” insinuating their doctrine into every facet of public and private life. Hypocrite much?
So basically, atheists forcing their religion on us = Good.
What’s overboard is secularists who insist that allowing any depiction of religion in public means that the United States is turning into a theocracy. I’ve got news for you – the US has never been a theocracy. It was not a theocracy when kids prayed in public schools, it was not a theocracy in 1925 when this memorial was erectedk, and it sure as hell is not a theocracy now.
Is this our ol’ buddy Joe The Rock-Climbing Hero, or just some other hypocritical asshole with the same first name?
I really will never understand this stuff, when mere symbols of a faith became indicative of a state’s embrace of said religion.
If a cross tripped me, cut in line, or called me a naughty, naughty Jew, I *might* take offense. But if it’s just sitting there in a park, probably ignored by most folks unless it’s Memorial Day, what’s the problem?
Is the monument imposing a religious test on our honored war dead? I don’t think anyone even putting a cross up as a memorial would say, “we’re only honoring Christians.” It’s a gesture based on the values that are important to the people who fund it and put it up, and that’s, after all, what we served in support of.
You guys are right to be angry. I’m so tired of pluralism meaning “everybody but the religiously principled.”
Dear Stevie,
If sights such as these shock and upset you, might I suggest a baby wipe to remove the sand from your vagina?
You are not a special little snowflake, Stevie. You do not have the right of freedom from butthurt. Grow the fuck up and move on.
The humanists are merely atheists in a $5 name change. Speaking of change, it must really suck to have to use US coin and currency. It must be a horror whenever a president ends a speech. And, if this case ever makes it to the Supreme Court, Lowe can wave to the carving of Moses that is there. I wonder which laws Moses represents.
May God have mercy on you, Steve Lowe, you’ll need it.
The perfect epitaph for an atheist: “HERE LIES AN ATHEIST ALL DRESSED UP WITH NOPLACE TO GO”.
Steve Lowe, just WHAT gives you the legal right to shove your non-belief down our throats?
Amen Proud and Amen!
THAT, and they have nobody to talk to when they have an orgasm!!
Lucky for my monitor and keyboard, I had already swallowed the coffee. Nice one, API.
I had posted a nice existential response that seems to have disappeared….must be a new format thing….
Know what you mean, VoV. Several of my posts in this topic, although probably not as existentially nice as yours, but among the very best paragraphs I have EVER penned, posted, were visible but disappeared some time later.
Maybe it is just the phase of the moon? 😉
Seriously, there are always some glitches when moving, updating, upgrading et al. Nothing to report until things have had a chance to settle.
If you don’t like something ignore it. You leave me alone, I’ll leave you alone. 89 years and he’s the first one to complain. And he was shocked, SHOCKED I tell you. I can imagine him driving and he sees the cross and gasps for air and shouts “Oh my God!”
That monument has been sitting there for 89 years and this clown just saw it recently?
Like, I REALLY believe that. It doesn’t wash.
I see this as nothing more than a ploy to get attention to a so-called ’cause’ that no one is interested in except a small group of people who want their names in the paper.
And personally, I’m offended by their taking offense at the exixtence of a war memorial that was installed before most of them were even eggs in their mothers’ ovaries.
As an atheist, this guy is an asshat. forcing his beliefs on people whom he feels forces their beliefs on him. What an idiot. Get over it, its a memorial for someone else, you should only be pissed if someone put that as your(Mr. Lowes) memorial.
If he’s shocked by a single cross in Maryland, he must shit his pants whenever he drives through St. Mary’s County. Must the county change its name as well?
If memory serves me correctly, there is a little town up by Aberdeen with the name of Churchville. I remember going through there (while stationed at APG) and thinking “there must be a church for every family living here”. So my advice to Mr. Low – stay south of Baltimore!
Break –
Have any of you been following the Mt Soledad story out of San Diego?
People wake up! The lower case letter ‘t’ is in the shape of a cross! Every time I write ‘the’ or ‘to’ or any word with a ‘t’ I feel ill!
Clearly the govt is trying to cram religion down our throats by have a letter in the shape of a cross.
I’m just guessing about this, but I think it’s about getting attention, getting dipstick’s name into the newspaper, and all the other stupid things that go with being shoved to the back of the line.
It really doesn’t look like much else to me.
WHy don’t we sue to have Humanists and atheists removed from national memorials?
Because this asshat as as representative of atheists at large as the Phelps idiots are representative of Christians.
I’m an atheist. I have zero problems with this cross.
“The American Humanist Association says it does not object to the fact that the Bladensburg Cross memorializes soldiers, but rather the placement of the Christian symbol on property owned by a government agency.”
Mr. Blowe – have you stopped to realize that National Cemeteries are government owned properties? (not that you’ll ever end up buried in one). I suppose that the next move will be to remove all religious symbols from these areas. You’ve had you’re little 15 minutes of fame – go back to your non-secular rock and shut up. Or better yet, China is a godless country. Perhaps you’d be happier there.
You’ll love this. The DC American Humanists (not to be confused with humane), sent a nastygram to a grieving MOom whose son was killed on a road. she erected a cross. They told her to take it down–or else! She agreed but was met by others who planted their crosses on her behalf as she removed hers!
