Bradley Calvert; another pretender busted by his mates

| February 3, 2013

I started getting some emails yesterday from the members of Delta Company 2/22d Infantry, a unit at Fort Drum, NY – their unit motto is “Deeds Not Words”. They wrote complaining about a former member of their unit, Bradley Calvert, who had been taking advantage of some of the benefits given by private industry in his hometown which were meant for real wounded soldiers. I guess what twigged them to his antics was an article about him and his wife on the local ESPN website;

Brad Calvert - SF

He was claiming to be a combat wounded special forces soldier. Of course, the Tripleduece as 2/22 Infantry called themselves when I was at Drum, is a hard-charging unit, but they’re not Special Forces and the folks I’ve talked to won’t deny it. I had to screen shoot the above webpage from a cache copy because ESPN took it down when they found out that Calvert was a phony.

Then there’s this article about him scamming “Wish For Our Heroes”;

Brad Calvet McDs

“Considering I have an 11- and 12-year-old daughter, this means everything to me,” said Calvert, who was wounded by a roadside bomb during his second tour of duty in Iraq. “This will probably be the best Christmas of my life.”

According to his mates, Calvert was not injured in a roadside bomb – he broke his arm in combatitives training at the unit’s base in Iraq. Somehow that injury made him “catch the PTSD”, as we like to say around here. But, anyway, that injury got him evac’d back to Walter Reed and it looks like he’s been milking it for all it was worth. He was also featured in a Wounded Warrior article – that Army journalist somehow got the idea that Calvert had been an “elite sniper”, his platoon says that’s also false.

Here’s a statement his former squad leader sent us;

J. Sides Statement 001

So why is delta Company pursuing this? “To restore honor to past, present and future members of Destroyer company 2nd Bn 22nd IN Regiment” according to the presentation they sent me along with the names of 15 people from D 2/22 who are willing to testify to this asshatery.

Thanks to SSG Ryan Shipley, SSG Kody Lunstrum, SGT James Sides and SGT Manny Figueroa for bringing all of this to us. I checked them all out on AKO to make sure they’re legit, and they are, of course, or you wouldn’t be reading about it.

Wonder what’s going to happen when Mrs. Calvert, who sounds like she ended up at Walter Reed legitimately, finds out he isn’t an elite sniper/ranger?

C2/2000AF

LOL only a matter of time before he shows up on here or some apologist shows up to defend him. Scamming money, I am guess this will have a follow up.

MSGRetired

You can tell he is SF by the Mountain Tab over his patch, Mountain = Special Forces doesnt it ??

Fen

“unit motto is Words Not Deeds.”

Shouldn’t that be reversed? Deeds not Words?

Bruce

This is the kind of stuff that turns good people who
want to help off. There is always one in the group.
Good job Delt Co. you have restored HONOR to your unit.

SJ

A clue might be his name is Bradley. Maybe put him in a cell with the other Bradley?

kody l

Our unit moto is” deeds not words”

SFC Holland

what is it about the name Bradley…

Green Thumb

I am suprised this clown is not a Wounded Warrior Project poster child…

But then again, who knows…

Brian

Ever since I met this douche I knew he was that type of person. This type of person just gives off that vibe. I they open their cock holster, then lies are coming out of it. I wasn’t ever too big on the Army always pushing the 7 values. I feel you should have those instilled in you before you sign your name to that contract. Obviously Bradley doesn’t know what honor, respect, loyalty, or integrity is. He I also about you find out that his false pride is about to crumble. Rot in hell Bradley.

O-4E

The good ol’ Tripledeuce…brings back memories

I remember it was about this time of year…there I was trudging around Drum with the deuce, as an OC/T on loan from the 2-14 INF, as the deuce (and the rest of First Brigade) were getting ready for a JRTC rotation. Wondering how -20 temps and 6 feet of snow was going to prepare us for southern Louisiana.

I also remember being so cold that FTX I thought my arms were going to fall off. Me and the rest of my FIST team slept in a range latrine we stumbled upon one night.

Ryan

Can’t believe he spit on the brothers we lost and the ones who were injured. Makes me sick to know he was part of the Destroyer family. I guess now he understands our company and battalion mottos. SEEK, STRIKE, DESTROY. DEEDS NOT WORDS

2-22 Soldr

What a tool bag….makes my unit (2-22 INF) look bad. I was on the same deployment as this shitbag (although different comapny), and I remember him leaving with a broken arm.

scoot jones

i was Dco 1-32 at drumm. fuck that assclown motherfucker! how dare he bring dishonor to my mountain! for those of us that still have honor and pride, climb to glory

OWB

You guys did good. Congrats on outing this idiot, but I must say that his idiocy does NOT make you guys look bad. His bad deeds only reflect badly upon himself.

“Taking care of our own” has several meanings. This one we are grateful does not come to public view very often. But when it does, we tend to take it personally, and do what must be done.

Thank you.

A_Proud_Infidel

It looks like that little asshat poser is gonna have to perpetually be on the lookout from here on! I know what having a poser like that in the unit is like, I”m National Guard now, and we had a poser in my platoon who claimed to be ex-Marine Recon. He was a “Sick Call Ranger” and if he could ride a horse like he did a Physical Profile, he’d be perennial rodeo champion! He got himself sent home after only four months of a one year tour and told folks at home he got shot over there. Me and a few others in my platoon went around town telling folks the truth, starting at where he worked!!

Tony P

Thanks for this blog, good sir. This will go a long way in restoring the honor of the mighty D Co 2-22 IN.

Casey Klahn

Uh oh. In WW II, my sainted father was in the 10th Mountain Division. Don’t start dissing this, as it took 2 Rangers to accost any one Mountain soldier on leave in those days. Rangers forget what happened to their leader, BG Darby, in WW II, but we regard him highly in the TMD community.

Too bad Calvert cannot see the brilliance of his own history, and felt he had to over-sell that. He should be punished, and not by the DoD and the courts, who have declined to do so.

Steve Locke

MSGRetired; No,the tab means that he took, and passed, a course in Mountain warefare. There are tabs for Ranger,Airborn,Sniper,Recon,Scout,Sapper, etc. Yes, these schools are VERY hard, And I will not denigrate ANY of these schools or the personnel that have taken and passed. The only tab that means Special Forces is the tab that READS, SPECIAL FORCES.

ComancheDoc

@19 Anyone assigned to 10MTN DIV(LI) wears that tab, its part of the unit patch; you can goto mountain warfare school in jericho VT and take the actual courses but its not a requirement to wear the tab while stationed with 10th. I think you also missed MSGs /sarc…

ItAllFades

Yeah, it’s part of the unit patch. You don’t have to go to Mountain Warfare school to wear it. And you’re not allowed to wear it after you switch to a different unit.

Green Thumb

What a steaming pile of dogshit.

SGTM

OMG, seriously???!!! MSG???? Come on man! The Mountain Tab does not mean you are SF. It’s just the patch of the 10th Mountain Division. All assigned brigades wear that patch, mechanics, medics, infantry, admin… you get my point. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE SF TO WEAR THE 10th MOUNTAIN PATCH!

rb325th

@23 SGTM, You missed the fact that MSG’s post was just pure sarcasm.

As to the subject of this story…WTF… I just cannot stomach these bastards at all.

A_Proud_Infidel

I think every real life Vet should be allowed to beat the crap out of any poser, anytime, anyplace. That, or “NATIONAL BEAT A POSER MONTH”!!

Ex-PH2

They all belong together. It isn’t just them, it’s the people who egg them on by listening to the nonsense and not bothering to check up on it.

At least, it’s catching up with them.

A_Proud_Infidel

Ex-PH2, I myself LOVE seeing how quickly posers get busted thanks to the Internet!!

Ex-PH2

@27, you got that right!

Bushmaster222

what a tool, i was injured at PB Bushmaster an i denied goin to walter reed i went straight back to Drum to do my rehab an crap, what a fuckin tool SMH. an you can continue to wear the tab when you leave the 10th as long as you were stationed as 10th, jus cuz you change divisions dont mean you have to take the tab off, now the awards on your right chest you do as those pertain to unit specifics, but patch wise you can continue to wear the Mountain tab with your patch as its all one patch. Bushmasters Deeds Not Words

Hondo

Bushmaster222: I’m pretty sure that the comment above about the Mountain tab coming off pertained to the left shoulder, not the right shoulder or the ASU combat unit badge.

For the former combat patch/badge, the Mountain tab is indeed considered a part of the unit patch – just like the Airborne tab is part of the 82d/101st/SF/18 Corps/other airborne unit combat patches.

But the Mountain tab comes off the left shoulder when you depart the unit. It’s not a permanent individual qual tab like SF, Ranger, Sapper, President’s Hundred, or (NG only) Governor’s Twenty.

Tran

Dont let this one piece of *hit ruin the 10th Mountain’s reputation. I am an actual soldier that served in the 2-22 during that same time with Calvert. I was injured in a IED and was recovering at Walter Reed, and had a run in with him. He tried to tell me he was blind as well until I pulled out my prosthetic eye. Do not judge my beloved Division and Battalion over one Soldier’s ignorance, stupidity and selfishness.

Dco 4th

Calvert fuck you. I never liked you and you are damn lucky i never whooped your ass in the baraks you pussy.

Claww 🙂

Destroyer 44

Keep sharing this. We need to make this loser famous

Troy

I was Calvert’s team leader in Iraq ’05. Shocked to find out we were wasting an elite sniper’s talent on tower guard.

D

What a little fuck stain. I’d stomp his guts out given half a chance. Nobody shits on the unit like that without being straightened out.

RudeMFRob

Sad Day when A vet steals from those more deserving If I am near him he will hear about it from me

11BScottie

Steve Locke,

Mountain tab does NOT mean mountain qualified. Only the Ramshead device means mountian qualified (badge worn like Air Assualt or Jump wings) Although only a very few units authorize wear of the ram’s head device.

Twist

@37, I went through the mountain course at Black Rapids, Alaska and as far as I know there is no device for being mountain qualified.

Twist

I will add though that if you have the mountaineering course and the cold weather leaders course you get an echo identifier.

A Proud Infidel

I still say we need to have “National Beat a Poser Month” during which any real vet can beat any or as many poser as he or she pleases every day and night.

ComancheDoc

Why the need to lie. 2 Deployments with 10th Mountain in itself is enough to be proud of. You got hurt, big deal, heal up and rejoin your unit.

Destroyer Co

If I am not mistaken didnt he wear make up an shit? Like eye liner or somthing like that hahaha. He was a joke while he was with us, He is a joke now, an he will forever be a joke. I pray I see you one day 🙂
