PTSD kills four homeless men in CA

| January 15, 2012

Yes, I know, PTSD doesn’t kill, but that’s kind of the point. Tman sent us a link from the LA Times this morning that tells of the arrest of Itzcoatl Ocampo of Yorba Linda who is suspected of murdering four homeless men. Of course, he was a veteran and his family is blaming the military for the murders;

…a relative and a friend of the suspect described a young man who appeared to be deeply troubled after his return from service in Iraq in the summer of 2010.

“When he came back from Iraq, he was sick,” said his uncle, Ifrain Gonzalez.

For the last year, he had been telling relatives that he was seeing and hearing things, Gonzalez said.

Well, if all of that is true, the family bears some of the responsibility for this episode which began just a few weeks ago on December 20. No one got him any help. Was the military responsible for tracking him after he got out of the military?

And, oh, by the way, it looks like he might have been yet another disciplinary problem while he was in the military;

Brian Doyle, a friend from high school, said Ocampo told him he had been kicked out of the military. A Marine Corps representative could not be reached Saturday for confirmation, and Anaheim police declined to discuss Ocampo’s military service.

Well, of course he was a disciplinary problem… We all have our demons, but I know of no self-respecting veteran who served honorably that would taint that honor. There may be a few out there somewhere with legitimate issues but I doubt this guy was one of them.

Of course, it’s Bush’s fault according to at least one commenter (at least he doesn’t place all the blame on Bush): “Gene Foss at 3:57 AM January 15, 2012

‘da Bushie’ scores another one. Way to go cowboy! With all the soldiers returning from Iraq, many have PTS and other combat related problems. Way to go bushie-baby! No jobs for them. Budget cuts at the VA and everywhere else. It is not all your fault, but your pals, Shameey (king of WMD) Rummey, the con Condi. and others sure made a mess of things. Sorta like driving down the road at 180 mph, coming to a curve and then yelling to Obama in the back seat, “Okay Obama, your turn to take the wheel”. Don’t you just love it! All the Republicians say’in, ‘it is Obama’s fault’.”

Funny, hasn’t Obama been in office three years now? Hell, it’s been nine years since my unit was working the railheads and ramping up for Kuwait.

Another case of blaming anyone and anything else for poor parenting and poor decision making.

UpNorth

I guess his family just sat around and watched him come and go, realizing he was “sick”? CI is right, blaming everyone but themselves always seems to be the answer.

There are times I feel like the whole country are taking crazy pills. Every five seconds we’re hearing about PTSD. Its like ADHD and Autism in the 90’s and 00’s

Kobe Bryant did what now?

BeatandRelease

He was an autistic, bipolar, sexually confused young man with ADHD who was stressed out from having to wait in the chow line and, as a result, was permanently depressed.

These guys all tend to come from a very “select” category of Vets… i.e. shitbirds.

Ok I have to ask anyone hear of troops in daily firefights in 2010? I must’ve missed that. In fact my battalion went back to Irak at the tail end of ’09 and if memory serves there was only one platoon that got CIBs. Not a hot deployment. Obviously he got PTSD from playing COD right after getting the MOH on Iwo while playing MOH. Let us not forget the space aliens from Halo, and the women and children he killed from Ace Assault….

Sporkmaster

I would go back and say that the 2008-2009 was quiet for the most part. A lot of people who deployed before said that there was a major improvement. So I imagine that if would be even less eventful in 2010.

Guy shoots a cop, daddy blames it on PTSD from his serving in Germany in the 90’s.

Shitbag goes out and stabs a bunch of homeless, daddy blames it on PTSD although I’d be willing to bet the FOIA will show the only “heavy combat” he ever saw was overloading on HALO or MW3 before he pissed hot/went psycho/otherwise got shitcanned.

At some point the family needs to be right there with them if they’re going to pull this enabling excuse bullshit.

Enough blaming! People need to take responsibility for themselves. I’m sorry if this guy had “issues”, but he did what he did. No one made him.
