Military Overwhelmingly Support McCain

| August 19, 2008

I like writing headlines that I know will make the little pinhead trolls around here go crazy.

In this post about Obama trying to pander to the VFW, Rooney left this comment:

How come McCain can’t even win the support of the troops in his presidential bid? First he loses the military vote to Ron Paul. Now I see on Fox News that Obama leads McCain almost 2 to 1 in campaign contributions from military members. That has to hurt you guys. Seems like the vets on this board are out of touch with the overwhelming majority of the military.

This is an excellent example of how liberals think; they don’t! They just regurgitate hyperbole and talking points. They either lack intellect or are just happily spewing lies wherever they can.

The actual headline from FoxNews was even more damning than Rooney remembered it, “Obama collects six times as much cash from military doners!”

A couple of things occurred to me when I heard the same hyperbole that Rooney apparently bought hook, line and sinker. First, in all of my time in the military I didn’t meet many people who would give a dime to any politician and secondly military members (at least the ones that are politically engaged at all) are a very safe Republican voting group.

So, I went to the actual polling data from The Boston Globe:

Through June 30, Obama had received 134 donations totaling about $61,000 to 99 totaling about $45,500 for Paul, and 26 contributions totaling less than $11,000 for McCain.

That’s a grand total of 259 total contributors! That could possibly be the single most insignificant donor block in the history of presidential politics.

To correct Rooney; 259 is not the “overwhelming majority” of a single infantry battalion. Being so “in touch” is probably why I know that.

Contributors aside, the real question of support is the vote.

As I suspected, members of the military favor McCain over Obama by a landslide 22 points!

According to Gallup, McCain leads Obama 56 percent to 34 percent, with 11 percent expressing no opinion or picking someone else.

Gallup said the poll is based on aggregated data from its daily tracking poll between Aug. 5 and Aug. 17, involving more than 11,000 registered voters, including 2,238 military veterans. Veterans are defined as those who are or have been members of the US military. Obama led McCain 46% to 43% among all registered voters during the period.

I know that Democrat talking points are often totally bogus and they like to prey upon the intellectually weak to spread them but I hope this helps out.

JEEEZUS COB!:
Here you go again! Using actual facts to support your allegations. Are you trying to confuse the poor losers of the liberal mindset? Now, if one of them, on his/her way home from wherever it is that they get their weekly money; should have an accident it could well be because they were trying to sort all this out. That would make you culpable in their logic.
Facts are scary things to Libs.

Years ago while attending Cardinal Mooney High School in Rochester, NY, I took a mini-course that was entitled, “How to Lie with Statistics”, that was based on a book with the same title. It’s so easy to tip the scales and manipulate statistical data in order to prove your point. That’s exactly what Rooney and the Boston Globe were attempting to convey. What helps in these matters is having good common sense and a great bullshit meter! 🙂

“I know that Democrat talking points are often totally bogus and they like to prey upon the intellectually weak to spread them but I hope this helps out”.

I wonder how long it took the democrats to find that many ‘Clinton’ promoted holdovers willing to donate to Odumbo? Must have been quite a chore. But then again, we have several hundred traitors lurking in the federal government and leaking national security data to the enemy, through the NYSlimes, and all of the traitors are Clinton holdovers or elected democrats. All democrats aren’t traitors, but all traitors are democrats.

Polls are like the one in Iraq when one of the Lame Stream Media wonks ask 50 members of the military who they would vote for. The result was ’47 for McCain’, ‘2 for Odumbo’, and ‘1 for Shrillary’. The next days headline was “Odumbo out polls Shrillary 2 to 1 among military members. Not a lie but the democrats shady way of presenting the news as factual.

COB6 Aren’t you the guy who twice nominated McCain as “oxygen thief” re.P.O.S.and picked your crush Hillary to beat Obama.Just askin?

Army Sergeant

I note however that your stats are skewed by including all military veterans, rather than just Iraq/Afghanistan vets. This also has nothing to do with what the active duty military think or feel.

Rooney

Deleting my response? Nice!

I’ve lost some readers because I let you roam free…you’re not worth it.

Too damn funny.
Another headline a fewe months back from some damn liberal MSM media.

We intervied 50 soldiers. , 47 said they would vote for McCain, 2 for Obama and 1 for Clinton.

Headline, soldiers favor Obama 2 to 1 over Clinton.

What do I have to do in order to get past the censors?

1,200 IVAW vs the 600,000 Army personnel that have been to OEF/OIF comes to 0.2% and we know that 0.2% can’t be wrong!

Some people skew and some people spew…

Airforce_5_O

Oh yes, the numbers. I am not crazy about voting for McCain at all, but considering what is on the other side of the ballot; CHA CHING! I am riding that elephant all the way to election day.

Paul Couturier - OIF Vet

Regarding Polls and support…

The last time I checked the ONLY measure of support for a political candidate is the support he or she gets ON ELECTION DAY!

That poll NEVER lies! (even though al bore wanted it to in 2000!)

Army Sergeant

Paul:

If they would start sending our overseas ballots to us on time, yeah, that poll would never lie.

Every time I’ve been overseas on election day, I know damn well my vote is never counted. I request them early and get them late.

Raoul Deming

A-5-O,

For the record, that’s a RINO…

Army Sergeant

Honestly, I won’t cry if either gets elected, but I wish McCain would go back to his roots, remember the troops, and stop siding with the big guys over the lower-level troops. He really lost me with his opposition to the GI Bill. The hundred years thing, I recognize he’s living in a dreamworld where Iraq will turn peaceful like Germany, but not supporting college living expenses because it might hurt reenlistment for a GI Bill to actually have teeth..that’s a no-go.

Raoul Deming

A/S,

We’ve been in Germany since ’45, that’s already 63 years. Seems you’re the one who refuses to address the real world.

Army Sergeant

Raoul: I don’t get what you’re trying to say. My ‘dreamworld’ statement is referring to him thinking that Iraq will work like Germany. Germany we already had vast cultural similarities, and we share a lot of the same language. There are a lot of reasons why Germany is peaceful, and those reasons don’t apply to Iraq.

trackback

[…] me if this is true. In fct ROS asked me the same a few months back. I knew it was true, because it happened back in 2008, too, when Paul got 99 donations totaling $45,500 – that’s about $460 per donor. […]
