How IVAW can change you
Here’s a study on how being a member of the Iraq Veterans Against the War can change you from an average veteran proud of your service into a blubbering idiot. Our buddy, Rochester Veteran, posted this article about three ladies who manned machine guns on their teams’ Hummers back in 2004-2005 in Iraq. One in particular, Robyyn Murray was very enthusiastic about her job;
“They (the Iraqis) used to get really confused,” said Spc. Robyn L. Murray, a civil affairs specialist from Niagara Falls, N.Y. “I was the first. I volunteered on the second day we were here.”
The civil affairs team that Murray was assigned to needed a gunner who knew how to use a squad automatic weapon. Murray said she jumped at the opportunity to “man” the machine gun in the turret.
In 2008, I posted this video of Murray, who is still chipper and matter-of-fact about how she enjoyed her tour of Iraq;
Earlier this year, I found this video of Murray standing next to Matthis and Elaine Brower while Matthis burned a flag in Lafayette Park, DC;
This morning someone sent me this video of Murray-as-drama-queen reading a poem while she blubbers about her finger being on a trigger…that job she so enthusiastically volunteered for a few years back;

More proof that Marxism and meth will rot your brain.
Whoa, she’s definitely changed for the worse. She looks like an old trashy emo-esque chick now. Someone should have warned her against those tattoos; they most definitely don’t help…
Nice Prison Tat, bitch.
booo wooo. DID SHE ACTUALLY SHOOT AT ANYONE? Here’s a better one, she speaks of her service in generally positive terms, so did she LOSE anyone? SHE WAS CIVIL AFFAIRS!!!
I have a lot more reason to question my involvement, and I am STILL proud of my service. I would NEVER burn our flag, and I’d damn well do it again.
She won’t put her finger on the trigger of a weapon…but she’ll tattoo them on both her collar bones? Give me a break, Jihadigirl.
Burma shave!
Jonn, you are wrong on Robynn and the flagburning. Neither she nor others knew what he was going to do before he did it. It is not indicative.
Also, a lot of combat guys also are conflicted over their service, do you make fun of them for being conflicted too?
Doc Bailey:
When they did away with my old MOS, I had to go through AIT again for my new one with a lot of new kids. One of them said he chose the MOS because no one ever died in it. He had the misfortune to have said it after my old unit had had a hard year, and I tore him a new one.
I don’t think you’re in the same boat as that kid, but I will say this. Everybody dies. IEDs don’t discriminate only for the grunts. Nor do bullets.
What a twit. IVAW is a bunch of “I was proud of my service, before I was against it.”
AS, are you ever going to realize that your excuses one enable this kind of self-destructive behavior?
Words fail me. Other than this must be the “Great Unwashed” I’ve heard referenced to. Me thinks her “great head” is somewhere other than her shoulders.
Aw c’mon, guys, meth and tattoos aren’t the culprits here. It’s the “stained” mind. It’s unfortunately in charge of itself, full “speed” ahead. LoL, couldn’t help the puns. =0)
That was a poem she just read?!?!?
Ugh, how far the Art of Poetry Writing has fallen.
And, AS, they’ve gone out of their way to condemn Asshat for what he did? Let’s see, lighter fluid, lighter, American flag, check. Soak it, light it and burn it. Takes longer than the blink of an eye to accomplish that. Robyn had plenty of time to walk away. Did she? And, being on that stage with Asshat is indicative.

UpNorth — Keep in mind that these are the same type of people who go around saying that just because Obama was part of an America-hating, racist Church with a racist Black Liberation Theology preacher for 2 decades, that doesn’t mean that it is indicative of anything about Obama.
Same applies here. Just because she willingly stood on a stage while someone burned the flag and damned the United States doesn’t mean it is indicative of her own character. Nope, can’t connect those dots.
BUT… everything involved with the war efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq can definitely be blamed on Booooosh and everyone in his Administration. Those dots they see clearly.
But standing on a stage with a flag burner… come on now, that is not indicative of anything at all!
“But standing on a stage with a flag burner… come on now, that is not indicative of anything at all!” My bad, of course, I should have known that. Where does one get those glasses that allow such clarity of vision on Booooosh, but automatically dim the vision when it comes to Rev. Wright, Obama, MessNBC, IVAW and the like? Are they prescription lenses, or off the rack glasses?
I don’t understand what all the whining is about. I’ve seen plenty of writing and speaking that Robynn has done and her unwillingness to take responsibility for the events that don’t fit her “tortured soul” narrative is pathetic. She enlisted in the army in October 2003. There were TWO wars in full swing, so exactly what the fuck did she think was going to happen to her when she volunteered to serve during wartime? And then she goes off in this video with the old “devious recruiter” canard and bawls about how she trusted him with her life as though she was somehow wronged, or the recruiter should have known her exact fate when he put her in. I say again: Two wars in full swing. Caveat fucking subscriptor. Take some goddamn responsibility for the choices YOU made, and YOUR failure to adequately research the potential consequences in advance. There is an entire class of veterans who enlisted in peacetime, were thrust into war post-9/11, and still don’t go around bellyaching about the fact (including yours truly). I’ve zero patience for anyone who volunteered during wartime and then acts like it was a shock that they were sent to war. Also, in the above video she talks about how she was the machine gunner from her 2nd day in country in a tone that, in context with the rest of her speech, clearly suggests her abhorrence with the assignment. In reference to her picture being on the cover of Army magazine, she states emphatically “I NEVER wanted that.” I have to question her sincerity though, since she says this while holding up a FRAMED FUCKING COPY of the magazine. Her purported disenfranchisement is further belied by her quote in the ANS story Jonn linked: “I was the first. I volunteered on the second day we were here.” Not to mention, her “horrors of war” stories seem to me to be largely the product of an overactive imagination. An Iraqi kid held her non-weapon hand. Sometimes she pointed weapons at people. She got shot at once and then yelled at for… Read more »
Tattooing pistols on your chest and broken rifles on your hands and then writing poems about your tattoos doesn’t make you tough.
==========
Actually, it makes her pretty fucking stupid. Unless she was planning on making the military a life-long career, in which case the tatoos wouldn’t affect much, it was idiotic to tatoo herself all up like that. Interviewing for a job is tough enough based on working on one’s resume, background, experience and personality. A lot of times that doesn’t even matter and you get rejected based on how you present yourself in an interview. By having all those riTARDed tatoos all over her hands and such in plain sight, she immediately puts herself at a major disadvantage in the non-military working world.
Maybe that’s why she hitched a ride on the sh!tb@g train that calls itself IVAW… because she has no other choices, based on all the dumb choices she has made thus far.
Everything I have read about IVAW the last few years, I have seen nothing to convince me that Greyhawk’s “sh!tb@g” description of them is not dead on. I have read about them doing nothing to help military veterans to improve their lives, and only about those they take and ruin their lives. This chick being a prime example of that. As much as I think IAVA is just an org full of a bunch of liberal Democrat hacks, at least they do have some parts of their org that helps military veterans. IVAW’s purpose seems to be to recruit military members who are messed up, indoctrinate them with America-hating, military hating bullshit and just mess them up some more, making their lives even worse.
Civil Affairs–thats all u had to say. I had to deal with them in Stan, they are ALL morons. They arent against the war like this chic, but theyre egotistical and arrogant know it alls. Just like her they believe they know better than everyone else. I had one idiot E-5 CA guy get in my MRAP and fry the Duke system—he zeroized it. If u dont know what that means, I cant tell u. But its something thats almost impossible to do on accident. The sad part is, it was an accident. And back home he’s a teacher! They got in one firefight where they were standing behind a wall in a Frech fob and put themselves in for Arcoms with Valor…who even wants an Arcom with Valor. The 101st gave it to them but wouldnt send anyone out to pin them, so their senior guy had to do it. And, of course, they walked around with beards, as if they were SF, which is something the Army needs to look at. Everyone claims they need to blend in, but I dont care how much hair u have on ur face, if ur carrying an M4, driving around in a ten ton MRAP, have interpreters and armed escorts, Im pretty dam sure the Taliban know ur Americans, geniuses. This girl fits the mold.
eagledavey, the problem with Civil Affairs (EXTREMELY officer heavy) is that it’s a dumping ground for shit bag officers from Capt. to Colonel who should’ve been QMP’ed years ago.
I had the misfortune to serve in a CA unit because I moved & needed a new unit, CA wasn’t my first choice by a long shot. Anyways, there’s a saying that CA eats it’s own and I saw that happen while I was in CA. Wouldn’t recommend CA to my worst enemy.
Scott in #15: Amen, brother, amen.
I’m laughing my ass off. One of our excess MI 1LTs is about to go Civil Affairs. He should fit right in.

Imagine my surprise when you first posted about Robyn Murray being involved with the IVAW! She was enthusiastic about being a turret gunner and volunteered for the job.
She certainly looks happy about her job in this photo:
I hate that flag burning crap!
In defense of CAG, I had a great experience with the guys who were occasionally attached to my unit. Of course, they were also Marines (albeit reservists) and operated in a small team run by a major who was a former grunt. They were in the truck behind mine during one ambush and the major, who only had comm on battalion frequency, came to where my guys were and asked me (a lowly Cpl) where I needed him. He sent his truck back to pick up cover on an open avenue of approach and then came with us as we cleared buildings. Much respect for that guy.
Selena, do you EVER get tired of making excuses for the fucked up behavior of those with whom you associate?
Neither she nor others knew what he was going to do before he did it. It is not indicative.
Bullshit. He’s got it, he pulls it out, douses it, sets it on fire. NOBODY stops him. Care to try that one again?
I’ll invoke Edmund Burke here…….
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”
Excuses have a maximum effective range of exactly zero meters.
NHSparky Says:

It would have been cool if Robyn had done this:
The Greatest Play in Baseball History
But she didn’t and stood by and watched it happen.
Yeah, I know that since Texas vs. Johnson SCOTUS ruling, burning the American Flag has no criminal penalties and is supposably “protected speech”, but that doesn’t mean that we have to put up with it and that people can’t stop it from happening.
Like I said earlier, I hate this flag burning crap, it’s so “jihad-like”:
Flag burner sets himself on fire
😆 !
Jonn,
Thanks for the mention here! It’s been a while since I posted. Tea Parties and college football trips are keeping me busy and there was that “laying low” thing that I had to do. Taking a public stand quite often has its consequences…
Could you do me a favor and enable the “img src” html code in post 21 in this thread? The point I was trying to make doesn’t come off without the photo being displayed.

Army Sgt, I’ll say this IEDs don’t discriminate but CA has the uncanny ability to of them. I do actually know a Finance troop that lost a foot.
But honestly I’m sick and tired of hearing people whine about toures where they literally never left the FOB. I have much respect for Engineers EOD Infantry, and all the grunts and medics, the 88 Mikes, all that jazz. But I can not stand a REMF that gets a bug up their ass because they want to brag. or toot their own horn.
Army Sgt is a liar. The only thing is that she lies to herself. Murray knew exactly what she was doing when she stood up there when that rapist burn the flag. There is a video from the front that shows her throwing her medals on the ground after they stomp on the flag.
This child is a fucking cry baby. I would feel sympathy for her and her injuries if she did swim in her own self pity. The Army does drop the ball in medical care, but please, you are not special. Pathetic child with tasteless tats.
hello–I just have one question. Are women allowed to become gunners, on a Humvee?
I’ve been reading through a lot of these because I found them kind of fascinating. Did two tours myself, once as CA actually (I think a big reason a lot of people have bad impressions with 38Bs is that in mid 2000s they basically stuffed the branch with IIR recalls, that’s not a slight at being recalled or something, but a 2 week training course on CMO for people who dont even want to do it doesnt make for the best teams).
Anyway, I get the impression there is more going on. A lot of them seem depressed about their lot in life in a more general sense (career prospects, social life, ect) more than anything else, but the ‘war thing’ allows for a way to express any kind of mundane depression into something that is more interesting and doesnt come off (to people who dont know better) as whiny. In their minds it seems like they build pretty ordinary soldier things into Rambo stuff.
I mean, how else do you get that melodramatic?
^^sorry, IRR…typo
btw, if you havent seen the full trailer, its pretty over the top.
