Under the Hood rubs egos in Killeen
So here’s the massive protest the gang from Under the Hood cafe staged at Fort Hood to protest the deployment of 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment’s deployment next month. I don’t know who sent me the pictures, they just fell into my inbox this afternoon.
Here’s Under the Hood’s press release;
Attending the rally will be Veterans of the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, military family members, active-duty servicemembers and other local activists. Bobby Whittenberg, former Marine, Purple Heart recipient and an organizer of the rally said marchers are standing in solidarity with the people of Iraq and Afghanistan, and troops being deployed against their wills.
“We need to send a strong message that these wars and occupations are wrong, and that officers sending Soldiers in need of medical care into combat is wrong, too,” said Whittenberg. “Unfortunately in the military, this is standard operating procedure.”
This latest demonstration comes less than a month after a prior demonstration at the East Gate of Fort Hood opposing the wars. As the latest outrage unfolds in response to the 91,000 documents leaked by Wikileaks detailing numerous human rights violations in Afghanistan, activity in the local peace community is surging, with similar demonstrations planned for the near future.
Apparently, they expected more people to show up;
Of course, in order to attract an anemic crowd they have to include people with a different agenda;
And this sign about immigration;
No International Socialist members? Well look at this sign;
No, at the bottom;
Kiss my ass and bring me another Slurpy, bitch.
“No more blood for oil” has kind of run it’s course, hasn’t it? Time to come up with some new shit.
What sense does it make to take a soldier who is not at 100% to a war? Besides, if we listen to Jeremy Stained-drawers, it’ll hurt them worse to stay behind.
That’s Cindy Thomas on your left holding the banner. She got started in the movement for good reasons, but I hear she’s let the ISO co-opt UtH and she drinks at the kool-aid pitcher these days.
A keffiyeh? Really? What does that have to do with Afghanistan or the 3rd ACR?
In the picture above, see the sign the guy in front is carrying? Wonder what it says?
3rd Armored CrimANAL Regiment. So much for supporting the troops while they condemn the war.
Kinda goes against this Facebook discussion Cindy Thomas had with a young soldier the other day;
I think that dry cleaner was a Church’s Chicken shack when I was stationed at Hood. But notice that sign?
This one;
Yep, no ISO influence here.
So this is the “new revolution” we’ve heard about so much – sorta looks like the old revolution doesn’t it? Well, except “radical feminists” have teamed up with admitted rapists;
Mike Kern beating a paint can while wearing an “I love pirates” bandanna like Bobby isn’t new either;
The whole kick-ass crowd;
Matthis had better eat a sandwich before the Central Texas wind blows his narrow ass back to New York.
Whittenberg and Matthis together – that’s a lot of ego to crowd onto one corner in Central Texas.

I’ve seen fewer douche nozzles in the feminine hygiene aisle at Costco.
“Ay! Screw you, hippie!” –Eric Cartman
Wait a minute,
According to the system(Communism) that these individuals are advocating, don’t all of the “CO’s” belong in gulags?
Or do they rate the firing squad?
I miss all the fun and hot guys.
(Probably shouldn’t leave comments when I’ve been drinking)
I did a quick look on this story and it seems that we are the only people that have photos of the protest.
The only story that has any photos of the people is one that was done earlier in July.
This is funny as shit. Sad too, really. First, you have the ISO, not new news, but clear proof that they are there.
The guy with the “Kiss my ass” sign I was surprised to see. When I was shooting The Resistors I cut his interview out all together because it had come up in a discussions that his problems he stated having with the Army may not have been true. I really can not remember all the details, but for the credibility of the film and myself I gave his interview the ax. Judging by Matthis being there, not only is rape ok, but so is lying about your service or problems.
It’s clear Bobby is all talk and whining. He’s no revolutionary. He also must not respect Women that much considering he stands in “solidarity” with a rapist. Cry baby punk.
I feel for Mike, but his choices are his own and he’ll have to live with them.
It’s such a large number of people I think the revolution will start any minute!
FISTS IN THE AIR!
Dummies, the lot of them.
“the deployment of 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment’s deployment” ???
@3. COs would have been shot in the old Red Army.
15 or 16 of em? I’d bet they were probably outnumbered by the day laborers, before they got jobs.
Forgot to add, this is a surge in activity? Glad they pointed that out, I would have thought this was the typical crowd, if it wasn’t so overwhelmingly large.
Ol’ Chickenshit matthis thinks he’s a big star now? Hell, he is way up there with Cindy Fathen, with Medea Beenjammin, n the rest of the no accounts.
This protest had the Idiotic Vermin And Wusses finest. Sure says volumes about how worthless the organization(?) really is. Does anyone outside their membership take any of this shit seriously?
Losers, the whole membership of IVAW.
Claymore, that’s WAY WAY WAY fewer douche nozzles! THIS post was great! I’ve been giggling for five straight minutes now!
It was a Sambos chicken & a Mr. Gattis Pizza and Spaghetti in 84 and the corner had a Pawn Shop then. Brought a M1 Carbine there in 82
I think you love them and see something in them you are too scared to tap into yourself (and I don’t just mean the homoerotic stuff).
*homoerotic: the really quite astoundingly obsessive fixation this blog has on these young (and often quite handsome, as these pictures reveal) anti-war veterans betrays no small whiff of stifled transgressive sexual desire.
@Themorphidite- Project much lately?
These people were really Soldiers?
What a bunch of pathetic losers. Really, really sad.
Now we get the homophobic insults and innuendo, mature.
And such big words too, I don’t think your fellow liberals would appreciate the use of homosexuality as an insult.
Good luck with that and it still doesn’t change what’s on the protest signs. Hypocrites are still hypocrites no matter what the insult.
No need to, Matt. But enough about me- your predictable protestations to the charge are hardly a refutation of the fact that the exorbitant time and meticulous attention paid to these anti-war veterans is not a simple display of legitimate disregard. There is something else at work here, psychologically speaking. And the fairly textbook homoerotic/homosocial undercurrent is only but one piece; at a more fundamental level, this antagonistic fixation belies an admiration and jealousy of those courageous individuals who dare speak out against the system which you foolishly and slavishly defend even as it disdains and destroys you.
It isn’t an insult, Daniel; it means I think (deep down) you are better than you appear to be.
Man the system is both destroying and disdaining me wow.
It payed for my education, it continues to provide me pay and health care, and all it asks is that I fullfill my obligations (and no that doesn’t mean war crimes).
My only real question is: What system exactly are they against? Are they anti capitalist as they eat their McDonalds and wear Nikes? Are they anti-war but support the troops? Are they free Gaza just because it’s cool.
I just want to know what I’m jealous of so I could properly emulate them. Or possibly have homo-erotic dreams about them. Whichever I feel more like doing tonight.
I don’t know how these people expect to “send a message” when each one of them has a different agenda – anarchy, socialism, communism, class wars, Gaza, illegal immigrants – oh my! And to run around beating a 5 gallon drum with a bunch of bullshit signs (except maybe the one Cindy was holding on to)is frankly just a pathetic waste of time. I can almost guarantee that no soldier at Ft. Hood took any of these fucking socialist nimrods seriously. If this is a reflection of the anti-war movement, there isn’t much of a movement.
Themoron, you crack me up. I’m guessing someone got a new thesaurus for his (or her) birthday.
I’m SO impressed. LMAO
But if the Flag that they fly under is for one thing, then try to fit as many unrelated issues under it gets very confusing.
I wanna see more of the chick with the black shirt and the red shorts… looks like she might have a nice figure. (C’mon, that’s the most worthwhile aspect of this whole event– nothing else rates for these clowns.)
That’s exactly what I’m saying Spork. These idiots think waving anarchist flags around is somehow going to convince some soldier to refuse to deploy, or their command to take PTSD vets off the deployment list. They are so far removed from reality that they don’t know their asshole from their elbow. And I find the rhetoric of themorgensons strangely familiar. Sounds so much like Matthis that its spooky, especially the profound use of the thesaurus. I also have to add that it doesn’t take any amount of courage to stand in the parking lot of a gas station and act like an idiot.
Themorganzers can ANALyze people merely by reading a comment or two. Wow! And so many damned fools pay so much to lay on a couch and “open up” to those high dollar ANALists.
And I would wager that he/she/it feels this is an acquired skill. Sounds more like matthis making a pathetic attempt to respond to those of us who’ve seen his true colors.
Wow. Today I found out from the internet that I’m a subconscious homosexual in love with anti-war people. Thanks internet!
But more importantly, didn’t we JUST see Whittenberg whining about the lack of revolutionary action from the “right-wing” IVAW? And here he is, standing among their leadership and doing the exact same thing IVAW has been doing for years. What the fuck, Bobster? Ranks of the “real” revolution run a little thin? Not enough Rage Against the Machine t-shirts to go around?
I’m waiting to hear what themoron would say about the fact I spent the better part of a decade stuck in a black steel tube with 120 other guys.
LOL Sparky No shit.
I don’t know guys, you might want to be careful. They look really hardcore with their fists in the air!
But really, if a Soldiers comes to them a refuses to deploy, how exactly do the plan on helping that Soldier? I doubt Bobby Al Hypocrite Whittenberg has a fund set aside to help with medical costs or other things that might come up.
Furthermore, we’ve already seen how they help Soldiers who resist.
C’mon, themorgesons, you know you want to write something about “big, long and full of seamen”…
There was a chick in the pictures?
Three (3) of ’em, actually… the one with the red shorts and black shirt seems to be the only one worth looking at, though. (Their protest sucks butt, but at least I can look at the girls. Don’t need no DADT here!)
Oh, excuse me, I forgot Cindy Thomas… four (4). How insensitive of me.
But would you really want to hang out with them and listen to them whine about Gaza, Capitalism and blaa blaa blaa?
I’ll pass.
I served with Michael Kern, he was a substandard soldier with a shitty attitude who half assed his way through life. Yes he deployed to Iraq and yes he was injured there, but he was not injured in combat, his injuries were a result of another shitbag dropping a box on him while they were loading an MRAP. This happened fairly early in the deployment cycle and he milked it to avoid going on patrols. This shitbag is protesting and bad mouthing the Army every chance he gets, but he’s quick to collect his paycheck and cry that he’s owed benefits. Fuck him and all the rest of the IVAW.
While I agree fuck IVAW. He left them per Bobby’s lead. I was not in his company, but if is the shitbag you say he is, care to sign your name to it?
Any idea who is claiming ownership of the photos John? Just curious because Flickr says they were removed for copyright infringement?
Someone named Madeleine Dubus claimed them. According to the internet, she’s a hippie. I don’t know how I would have got them from her, so I think it’s a hippie trick, so I’m working on putting them up again here.
Cool. 😉
