Yeah, this helps

Vote Vet’s poster child for the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, Dan Choi decided he could change military policy and the UCMJ today by chaining himself to the White House fence;

In an act of civil disobedience, Lt. Dan Choi and Jim Pietrangelo have been arrested at the White House gates on Thursday while protesting the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

Following a Human Rights Campaign rally for DADT repeal in Washington earlier today, Choi and Pietrangelo led about 100 protesters to the White House, where the two then proceeded to handcuff themselves to the gates.

Yeah, Choi has been allowed to serve in his National Guard unit despite the fact that he’s violated the DADT policy countless times (including coming out on the Rachel Maddow Show last year). The final decision on how much longer he’ll remain in the service is pending. So now I think the military has a couple of reasons to boot his ass without DADT.

Cue the Rosa Parks comparisons.

Yeah, I can see a “conduct unbecoming an officer” charge in his near future.

BohicaTwentyTwo

Guess we can add Choi to the long list of people who wear their uniform while engaging in street theatre. He does realize that he is showing exactly why gays shouldn’t be allowed to serve openly, right? I am really starting to question where his loyalties lie. Is it with his country, or with those of a similar sexual preference?

Trent

What a moron!

What is it with these boneheads wearing their uniforms when doing these acts of stupidity? Why not just wear a sign that says I want to dishonor the service I chose freely after being told the rules concerning my actions while serving?

This guy, regardless of ‘orientation’, needs to receive a kick out the door.

Anonymous

D’oh! Gay is one thing, f*ckin’ stupid is something else.

Army Mom

And the Ghosts of the Thousands of Dead in the Long Grey Line are crying out in horror and shame.

KNF

Rosa Parks was gay?

FOMSG

YGBFSM. A Commissioned Officer in the United States Army in a time of war. Wants to make a Goddamn national issues about where he likes to put his Goddamn willy.

I wish this Nation would just grow the fuck up.

Marine 83

And yet when a conservative showed up to a town hall meeting in uniform he was castigated for it. The hypocracy of the left is staggering.

defendUSA

OT…
You read my mind. With people doing that sort of thing, they do not represent that what the military stands for. “We” are allowed to hold people to higher standards. Period.

This boy-o ain’t cutting it.

Operator Dan

Loser.

USMC Chris

What happened? He forgot to bring his fuzzy pink handcuffs!

Come on! What happened to gay pride?

AW1 Tim

It’s a crying shame that someone didn’t take advantage of his being handcuffed to kick the living shit out of him.

If anyone complained, the guy could claim that his actions in kicking the crap out of the LT were just “street theater”. 🙂

Cedo Alteram

What a muhroone.

LTC Tim

BOHICA…exactly. Despite their claims to the contrary, this is just the kind of spectacle we can expect with the repeal of DADT.

This guy is a disgrace to anyone who ever wore the uniform. Not because he is gay, but because of idiotic stunts like this. What exactly is he a prisoner of? Bad taste, histrionics?

His chain of command should have dealt with this kid long before he became a national embarrassment.

UpNorth

Obviously, Choi swore his oath to the GLBT’s, not the US Army and the United States.

Frankly Opinionated

I am an old fart, but I remember when even draftees had more class than this. Screw the bastard, NAH, he’d like that, just run him out of the army, and set up a payment plan to recoup what myself and other taxpayers have spent on his training. If someone is weak enough to be “GAY”, in any fashion, they are too weak to be in the military of MY Country. Not bigoted, just a realist.

Sean

He’s in My old unit

HHC. 1st Bn, 69th Infantry Regiment 27th BCT(L), NYARNG

And he’s a fucking disgrace to the Regiment, his Uniform and the Service.

Johnnie

Protest if you want to. It’s your 1st Amendment right. But in uniform you are a representative of the military, not your self. Your political views as an individual count only when you represent your self. If I was still in uniform (proud retiree) I’d have volunteered to come arrest your ass! I hope they kick his butt out but not before he pays the price for his theatrics.

“Gaytarded,” literally.

Jon The Mechanic

This jackass is in my Brigade, and methinks I need to make sure this gets to the correct people in the unit, just as insurance in case they didn’t see it on the news.

B Woodman

Is this jerk of an a**hole any relation to Bok Choi?

I’m hungry. Think I’ll make some stir-fry.

defendUSA

JON THE mechanic…
You won’t have to do anything…he’ll bragg about chaining himself to the fence. That is one trait you can count on…self-aggrandizement and flamboyance.

Anonymous

At least he color-coordinated and used black handcuffs that accessorized with the uniform… nickle-plated cuffs would’ve been so tacky without civvies, you know. You go, girl!

IronKnight

You know, there is a reason it’s called “service.”
Soldiers are expected to put their personal wants and needs to the side because their responsibility lies in the greater whole…Which is the underlying concept of “Army of One” (even though I liked be all you can be).
The military question on DADT that must be answered is simple:
Is the following expression true?
Army + DADT < Army – DADT

That’s it!
The military does not care about social justice (ask your PSGT why), it does not need to be on the tip of the social progress spear. Frankly I would prefer if my military stayed a little mid-evil, you know… for that ass that needs a boot from time to time.

If you don’t like that gays aren’t allowed to wear a rainbow K-pot cover and parade through San Francisco tough sh!@. But when Iran decides that there are actually gays there and decides to do a little ethnic cleansing, remember it is that non-flamboyant hard as nails group of people; from all walk of life, who choose to put their personnel identity aside that will put strength to the words of condemnation.

Until then, keep chasing that rainbow.

He’s protesting in uniform, which is against the rules. His uniform is not a prop. If he were protesting in civvies, in his own personal capacity, that would be a different matter.

I suspect that he’s protesting in uniform because he thinks that he will face no reprecussions for it, and he’s probably right. Because no one wants to be called a homophobe.

I oppose the repeal of DADT. I’ve already mentioned that. One reason I oppose it is because I suspect that so-called gays DO NOT want to serve “just like every one else”. They want special treatment.

“Oh–that’s just ridiculous!” You say.

No, it isn’t. In our military, and in our society at large, different groups of people are treated differently based on the number of victim points they have. If an NCO wants to avoid being called racist, he will let some things slide with black soldiers that he wouldn’t let slide with white soldiers. If an NCO wants to avoid being called sexist, he will let some things slide with female soldiers that he wouldn’t let slide with male soldiers.

Repealing DADT will result in homosexuals such as Choi openly serving and you can expect special treatment for them. If an NCO doesn’t want to be called homophobic, he will let certain things slide with homosexual soldiers that he wouldn’t let slide with heterosexual soldiers. Such as public displays of affection. And wearing the uniform to protest.

Ben

If Choi is ever disciplined for this little stunt–as he should be–you can expect Maddow and company to complain that he’s actually being disciplined for “being gay”.

You know, that’s one argument I hadn’t thought of/heard before and if Nadal Hasan isn’t the example of how the chain of command let’s things slide so they’re not “un-PC” then I don’t know what is. I’m not comparing Hasan to gay soldiers, just using the example of higher-ups not wanting to “stir the pot”

Sarge

I say leave him cuffed to the fence until we decide to cut his rotting carcass down in a few weeks. Nothing personal.

AG1

Court Martial him and make him an example.

The rules about not doing stupid sh*t in uniform as an officer don’t say anything about “except if they’re gay,” so hammer him for it. Same rules for everyone, he dumb ass included.

Sporkmaster

I do have any video or photos, but CNN was doing interviews with random people in front of the White House and guess who was there in Dress Blues with Lt rank still. I am sure that once this settles down that the footage can be found.
