COVID-19 Hits One Of Our Own

| April 16, 2020

VOV reports his Father in Law, a Korean War Vet, is one of the veterans in the Holyoke soldiers home with the virus.

So however you roll- say a prayer, send good  karma, light a candle, burn some incense, raise a glass, or just wish him the best possible outcome, please keep him and his family in your thoughts through this difficult time.

Thanks,

AW1

  3. OldCorpsTanker72 says:

From what I’m hearing and seeing, it can either be a big deal or kind of like having a cold. Hope he has the “cold” version.

  4. Green Thumb says:

    Damn.

    Hang in there, buddy.

  5. David says:

Just lost a dear friend the 14th due to Covid – went to the hospital 3/31, was intubated and in the ICU quickly. Cong couldn’t kill him (’68-69 I believe) but the Chinese did.

Finally found a home number for another… former infantry RTO, also Vietnam – turns out his cell died and I tracked down his home phone finally.
All: make sure your friends have multiple ways to reach you, especially if they are at long distance!

I live in the PDRofMA and try to stay current on the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home catastrophe. In the last three weeks, at least 38 veterans have died from COVID-19. An additional 99 veterans and 79 employees have tested positive for the coronavirus. Medical personnel from the National Guard are augmenting a clinical control team. At least 44 residents who tested negative were moved to the Holyoke Medical Center.

The MA attorney general and the US Dept. of Justice are conducting a joint investigation to determine whether criminal charges should be filed. Prayers for recovery to VOV’s FIL and to all the infected residents of the home.

May your family be blessed, VOV. There is some comfort in knowing that we got your back, but that’s not a whole lotta practical assistance. May all who need it be safe and find the answers you need.

Geezo-Pete! I hope he recovers and develops immunity to the bug, VOV.

    This should not be happening!

There’s an old Naval toast that seems particularly appropriate. “Here’s to our own health and welfare as no one else concerns themselves with it.”

You and yours are in my thoughts.

“Here’s to our wives and lovers. May they never meet!”
Tough times. If this puts a *grin* on VOV’s mug, more the better. Knew I could count on the TAH Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes to stand up and support.
      Thanks.

My wife was overwhelmed at the show of support from people we only know through their words here on the internet.

I can’t thank you all enough for your warm thoughts and kind wishes, it is indeed humbling to have so many great people expressing their concern and well wishes for a family member.

From the bottom of our hearts thank you all so very much.

Our daughter just finished doing a large care box
With a few of her friends for a veterans home here in New Mexico if there’s anything the skippy clan
Can do please let us know

    • Veritas Omnia Vincit says:

Thank you for the gracious thoughts and offer of assistance.

We certainly appreciate everyone here thinking of us warmly in their thoughts.

  31. Fyrfighter says:

Hey all, not to hijack the thread at all, but earlier this week I found out that my aunt and uncle in Philadelphia were hospitalized with suspected Wuhan flu. Tuesday it was confirmed, and I just got word that they’ve taken my uncle off the vent, comfort measures only… Aunt doesn’t seem quite as bad, but too early to tell.

    • 5th/77th FA says:

Great news Fyr, Thanks for letting us know. We hear so much about the suffering that folks are going thru, but very little on successful recoveries. We include your Family in our prayers for continued healing.

      • Fyrfighter says:

Thanks 5th, but i didn’t state it well, not good news, they were making him comfortable till he passed, which he just did. Prayers are greatly appreciated.

        • 5th/77th FA says:

Damn Fyr, Sorry to hear that Brother. Another American Patriot murdered by the Chinese Communist. Will we offer up more prayers for your Aunt and an additional prayer for your Family to have God’s Peace and Comfort during this time.

        • OWB says:

You and your family have them. So, so sorry.

          • Fyrfighter says:

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Yeah, it sucks, but even with it hitting home personally, this STILL isn’t worse than the flu. I have siblings that are all wound up with the stupidity you might expect, and the thing is, if this had been the seasonal flu, they wouldn’t say a word… Sadly both of them had / have multiple co-morbidities, so it’s not surprising that it hit them especially hard.

        • AW1Ed says:

So very sorry, Ff. Hope your Aunt pulls through, and is immunized from the virus.

Hey, when I check out, I hope “comfort” is in the equation.

          • Fyrfighter says:

Thanks Ed it’s appreciated. Being half a country away, info is a bit delayed, and not as clear as we’d like, but it is what it is. And yeah, I’d like the end to be comfortable, or close to it as well.

        • Hondo says:

May your uncle have been in heaven half an hour before the Devil knew he was gone, Fyrfighter.

I’ll ask the Man Upstairs to watch over your aunt.

    • HMCS(FMF) ret says:

My thoughts and prayers to you and your family Fyr…

      • Fyrfighter says:

Thanks all. Still no updates, other than my dad is now in the hospital with a pulmonary embolism, and due to this ChiCom virus, I can’t visit him… Fuck me!

    • Veritas Omnia Vincit says:

Please know that our thoughts are with your family for the health of your aunt and uncle and a speedy return to good health for your father as well.

Best to you, sorry to hear this news.
