Murder convict caught with loaded gun, marijuana in SUV after taking wrong turn onto Ambassador Bridge
Kevin Johnson arrested after accidentally driving into Canada
DETROIT – A man who had just spent more than 30 years in prison on a murder conviction was caught with a loaded gun and marijuana in his SUV after he accidentally made a wrong turn onto the Ambassador Bridge and ended up in Canada, officials said.
Kevin Sherroy Johnson, 51, is a parolee who spent 32 years in prison for a second-degree murder charge stemming from an April 30, 1987, incident.
Johnson was driving a white four-door Chevrolet Equinox on Jan. 22 when he crossed the Detroit Ambassaor Bridge from the United STates into Canada, according to authorities.
When officials with the Canadian Border Services Agency spoke to Johnson, he said he had made a wrong turn.
CBSA officials tried to direct him back to the U.S., but he acted nervous and couldn’t navigate his SUV to the auto lanes that would take him back in the right direction, authorities said.

Cleveland man shot in the pelvis as he and woman tried to rob another man, court records say
By Evan MacDonald
CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Cleveland man suffered a gunshot wound that shattered his pelvis during an attempted robbery he tried to pull with a woman, court records say.Surdeangelo D. Parhman, 22, and Cecilia R. Vargas, 20, are each charged with aggravated robbery in the Jan. 26 incident.
Parham made his first court appearance Saturday and remains in custody on $25,000 bond. Vargas is not in custody but a warrant was issued Friday for her arrest.
Detectives initially identified a 26-year-old man as a suspect in the shooting that injured Parham. They arrested and charged the man with felonious assault, but dismissed the case two days before they charged Parham and Vargas, according to court records.
The 26-year-old man told investigators that Parham tried to rob him at gunpoint prior to the shooting, which happened just before 10 a.m. Jan. 26 on Quincy Avenue near East 40th Street, according to a police report. Vargas acted as Parham’s accomplice, court records say.

CMPD: One teen shot by neighbors, another crashes into tree during police chase after alleged crime spree
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – One teen was shot and another crashed into a tree while running from police following a string of attempted armed robberies and burglaries Tuesday morning, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.
The series of events began around 4:35 a.m. on Otter Creek Drive when a man spotted two people breaking into his wife’s vehicle. The man confronted the would-be thieves who then pulled out a gun and began to drive away in a white Toyota Camry. But before leaving, police say, the duo circled back around and fired multiple shots at the man.
The victim was not struck, but his vehicle was.
Less than a half hour later, around 4:50 p.m., police say the duo – still driving the Camry – pulled up behind another car on Clems Branch Drive. One of the teens then got out of the Camry, put on a mask and pointed a gun at the driver of the second vehicle. That driver was armed, however, and fired at the masked teen who then ran from the scene.
Just a few minutes after that, around 4:56 a.m., police spotted a stolen white Camry that matched the description of the one used in the two recent crimes. The driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued before the teen driving the Camry struck a tree on Bevington Place.
Police say the driver, a teenager and a convicted felon, was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Some time later, at 6:30 a.m., police were still trying to find the second suspect whey they got a call about a shooting on Myers Mill Lane in Ballantyne. When they arrived, they found a 17-year-old who had been shot being held down by good Samaritans.
Witnesses said the teen had approached a woman and took her car keys at gunpoint. He was about to take her vehicle when her husband came outside and the two began “tussling,” the report states.
Neighbors say all the commotion alerted the husband, who was in the shower. They say he ran outside without any clothes on and tackled the teen. Neighbors then rushed to join him.
“My daughter heard someone screaming and honking her horn and crying for help so I came downstairs and I called 911,” neighbor Amy Rockas said.
That’s when neighbors came outside and ordered the teen to drop his gun.
“I basically just covered the guy with my shotgun, trying to find his gun because we knew he had a gun, we just couldn’t find it and he kept reaching for it,” neighbor Burton Fulton said.
When the teen refused to drop the gun, police said, one of the neighbors fired a gun and struck the 17-year-old.
