Iranians Want an Operation Praying Mantis Rematch

Would the Iranians be crazy enough to do it? The new leadership, that replaced the one that was taken out, is familiar with the Iraq-Iran war. This was also near the time when Operation Praying Mantis took place. During the engagement, the Iranian Navy did not perform as advertised.
However, they had been conducting maritime drills in the past few years involving fast attack boats and other naval assets. An Iranian commander in charge of the Iranian forces that cover the Straight of Hormuz stated that American warships are among the targets that they have identified.

Gen. Gholamali Abuhamzeh, the commander of IRGC forces near the Strait of Hormuz, said those U.S. warships were some of the 35 U.S. targets Iran has identified for attacks in the region, according to Reuters.
Abuhamzeh’s threats come in response to Thursday’s U.S. airstrikes that killed of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the leader of the IRGC’s Quds Force. Iranian leaders have since vowed to exact ‘severe revenge’ for Soleimani’s death.
“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital point for the West and a large number of American destroyers and warships cross there … vital American targets in the region have been identified by Iran since long time ago … some 35 U.S. targets in the region as well as Tel Aviv are within our reach,” Abuhamzeh said in a statement first circulated by Iran’s Tasnim news agency.
USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group in November conducted military drills in the vital Strait of Hormuz, which acts a chokepoint for maritime access through the Persian Gulf.
The reality is that the economic sanctions that President Trump has placed on Iran are having an effect. The Iranians could not afford to fight a war as this would accelerate the draining of their limited, and draining, financial resources.
Contrary to mainstream media reporting, a large percent of the Iranian population actually celebrated the killing of the general, and are opposed to the Iranian regime. Many among the Iraqi population also celebrated. However, the ones that demonstrated against the United States received more media attention.

Iran lost about half of its operational Naval units during that operation. The US backed off the attacks to give Iran a way out, and to open negotiations.
I don’t think Operation Praying Mantis, Part II, will end on such terms.

Just like some years ago in a town I was in when GW Bush made a campaign appearance, the crowd coming to see him numbered at least ten thousand, but the snooze media weasels covering it gave equal air time to the leftard fleabags protesting his being there, about all twelve of them!

This whole thing is going to blow over. Iran will make some sort of symbolic attack with a couple of missiles. They may even kill or injure a couple of our folks. More likely they will attempt a cyber attack (infrastructure of some sort).
At the end of the day they will declare a moral victory and the new cycle will forget everything. Life will move on.
Hopefully, they will be more restrained. I suspect they are far closer to the edge of an abyss than they will admit.
