80-year-old shoots would-be robber, 73, who attacked him with pepper spray, cops say

An 80-year-old man shot a would-be robber in a Hialeah parking lot Friday afternoon.

The suspect is 73 years old.

Police said Julio Perez-Delgado pepper sprayed and punched the older man as the man entered his car outside the Royal Arcade, 5440 West 16th Ave. He demanded the man turn over his money, but Ernesto Del Monte instead reached for his firearm inside his pocket and fired several shots at Perez-Delgado.

Riddled with bullets, Perez-Delgado took off. Police eventually found him about a half-mile away after receiving a call of a man down with multiple gunshot wounds in front of 1910 West 56th St.

Woman says intruder tried to break into her home twice just days apart

A homeowner said someone tried to break into her house for the second time this month — until she shot at the would-be intruder and scared him away.

Channel 2’s Alyssa Hyman is in East Point, where police said there have been at least five break-ins in the Heritage Park neighborhood this month.

Hyman spoke to Tiffany Wiseman, whose home is still damaged from when the criminal broke in the first time earlier this month.

Channel 2 Action News spoke to Wiseman after the first break-in attempt. Less than two days later, she said the suspect came back again and hit more houses than just hers.

The would-be intruder never made it inside Wiseman’s the second time.

Wiseman said she barricaded her front door after the first break-in, afraid the intruder would hit her home again. She even decided to arm herself, never imagining the criminal would actually come back.

But that’s exactly what happened, Wiseman said.

“He went for the door and tried to kick at it,” Wiseman said. “He got the door knob off again. Once I popped (fired the gun) he was gone and I called police.”

Police: Person in Bridgeport fires back at shooter in self-defense

BRIDGEPORT — The driver of a vehicle was arrested in the city after opening fire into a small group of people, according to police officials.

The incident happened in the area of Taft Avenue around 11 p.m. Thursday, police spokesman Terron Jones said on Saturday.

Although the shooter’s bullets didn’t hit anyone, another person — who holds a valid pistol permit — returned fire at the shooter, Jones said.

The initial shooter was arrested, but the name, age and charges of that person were not provided Saturday. The person who returned fire acted in self-defense, Jones said, and was not charged by police.
