Missouri sheriff’s deputy saves flag from touching ground, goes viral

AnotherPat sends us a link to different kind of FGS, and a gentle reminder to me that Jonn often would post these up, as well as the more traditional ones. My only possible reply to that is, “Aye aye, Ma’am.”

Missouri sheriff’s deputy, veteran spotted on camera saving American flag touching the ground

By Travis Fedschun
A sheriff’s deputy and veteran in Missouri went above the call of duty earlier this month after spotting an American flag on a broken flagpole that was nearly on the ground.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post the incident happened on March 15 in Avondale after a storm had passed through the region and Deputy Brandon McElroy was driving through the neighborhood.

Video from a Ring doorbell camera sent into the sheriff’s office by the homeowner shows McElroy slow down in front of the house, turn around and get out after noticing the flag partially draped on the ground.

“Seeing the flag down, my first reaction was to do the right thing and make sure to show respect and pick it up off the ground,” McElroy told “Fox & Friends.” “I’m not necessarily on the lookout for it, but driving in that area I’ve always noticed his flagpole up with the flag waving, and driving through that area that particular morning I noticed it was down and just had to pick it up.”

Thanks, Pat.

Kudos to Deputy Brandon McElroy. There ARE good people in our blessed County. They are the quiet ones.

Deputy Brandon McElroy has stated that “he strives to make sure to always do the right thing, even when nobody is watching.”

He also commented “Something as small as that cloth representsa lot in this country, wheter it’s the men and women that died for it or the men women that wear it to this day serving our country so we can have our freedomsthat we have and enjoy the thingsthat we do on everyday basis.”

So well, said, Deputy. SALUTE.

This the sort of thing that makes a community what it is. See a job, do a job.

Difficult situations can bring out the best, even from the least.

The spousal unit was a seamstress for a number of decades and one of the regular customers was the police department. When the winds have whipped a flag raw on the trailing edge she would hem them and we dutifully refolded them for return to service.
