China’s Influence on American Education
It’s no secret, on TAH, that the predominant philosophy among many of our universities is to the left of the political spectrum. Far left. There has been numerous mentions of moves, by the University, University staff, or students, to stifle or hamper conservative thought. Based on the arguments of one of our posters from the West Coast, many here suspect that the trending belief, among professors and students, is on the socialist/communist end of the political spectrum.
This hostility towards conservative groups and speech doesn’t appear to be applied against a foreign power’s attempt to influence thought and learning with regards to our university level learning. There is a report, from the Senate, focusing on China’s influence on our universities.
From The Daily Caller:
“We should actively carry out international propaganda battles,” China’s former Minister of Propaganda Liu Yunshan said in a Chinese newspaper in 2010. “Our strategy is to proactively take our culture abroad … We should do well in establishing and operating overseas cultural centers and Confucius Institutes.”
Allowing another country to create centers here, with the United States setting up equivalent centers overseas, may seem simple. Through these centers, both sides could increase understanding and cooperation. However, this doesn’t appear to be the case. The Chinese appear to be leveraging these centers to exert their influence on our university systems.
Their treatment of American Cultural Centers in China speaks volumes about China’s real intent. More from The Daily Coller:
The U.S. attempted to establish parity by creating “American Cultural Centers” (ACC) in which U.S. universities would partner with Chinese ones to set up programs abroad. But the program was ended in 2017 after the Chinese government allegedly repeatedly obstructed programs and denied them academic freedom.
As seen from the graphic above, Chinese centers in the United States outnumber American centers in China. Chinese outposts, in the United States, appear to be receiving tailwinds from American universities. However, our equivalent centers in China met vicious headwinds from the Chinese government. It doesn’t stop there. China is planning on expanding this program into America’s grade schools.

The best way to overthrow/takeover any institution/government/club/organization is from within.
The best way to preserve same is to deny access.
I guess Chinese Restaurants aren’t enough.
Lars dates Asian women so he can prove to you all that he is NOT racist.
China is eating our lunch in many ways, all over the world.
Not worried at all, some of the biggest dumbasses in society are the “young scholars” on our university campuses. If you doubt this, just remember Bill O’Reilly’s “Watters World” segments when Bill had the slot on Fox News, in which Jesse Watters would sometimes ask college kids questions pertaining to current events, history , civics etc. Some (most) of the answers were comedy gold. As far as brainwashing young minds, thats been going on since the early 1960s.
Rule # 1 when dealing with the Chineeze:
DON’T TRUST THE CHINEEZE … EVERYTHING THEY DO IS CONNECTED TO A LONG GAME.
But, but, don’t fear the commie! They are coming here to help us realize the true joys of socialism and one party rule. They are going to help us achieve Mao’s dream of “The New Man.” Although, that needs to be changed to “The New Person” so as not to trigger or offend any of the myriad/universe of “new” genders, especially the ones who identify as female.
Obviously we should enforce the law, revoke the visas of those who are violating the conditions of their stay, and punish the schools that are failing to report (and start CI investigations on all of the above).
But.
The only way to defeat an idea is with a better idea. Trying to shut them up will only create more interest and mystique. We need educators that can not only present Western/Occidental values but intelligently debate and debunk the ‘merits’ of Eastern/Oriental thought, specifically communism and socialism.
Like it or not, the college kids of today will be the work force of tomorrow and the leaders in a generation- when we are all old(er), these guys will be in charge. Shutting down Confucius Institutes on campus would only force the Chinese to open them in coffee shops off campus and create the appearance of censorship.
The far left ignores the fact that capitalism has led to the highest standard of living for everyone In the societies that practice it while communist and socialist systems have been used as a fig leaf for traditionally authoritarian societies to justify their revocation of liberty and suppression of thought in order to enrich the elite.
Look at AOC- she has a degree in IR and Econ from a respected university, yet she has a fundamentally flawed understanding of how economics work.
What dahell do you mean by bringing facts to this discussion? Don’t you know that facts have no place in an institution of higher learning?
Just write down the answer we want you to write and leave your facts at home. This is a fact free campus. The gulag/reeducation camps await you.
Sure, that is happening all over the place. It is a result of the fact that conservatives, for the most part, have undervalued liberal arts education in favor of STEM, ceding that intellectual territory to the left. In fact, we even use the term ‘liberal’ and ‘left’ interchangeably.
The root of the word liberal is Latin, and it refers to the atteibutes of a ‘free man’ or citizen, as opposed to a slave or non citizen.
The whole idea is that one cannot fully participate in a civil society without a firm grounding in liberal arts. In fact, they didn’t want non-citizens or slaves studying the liberal arts because things like philosophy and political science can give them dangerous ideas and the ability to debate in the public square. Sound familiar?
So, for decades, the left has invested intellectual capital in the liberal arts, meaning that more and more professors are on the left, and they shaped Millennials and Gen Z, and if we don’t watch it, they will shape what some are calling iGen or Gen Me.
Every generation beginning with the Millenials feels that they were given a broken economy, widespread poverty, social injustice, etc., when the reality is they live in the most prosperous time and place in recorded history. Is plays right into the hands of foreign propagandists.
iGen, and Gen Me, are a couple of names they’re using for Generation Z. Another name for them is “Zoomer”.
The older Millennials, who identify more with the Baby Boomers, are called “Boomers”.
Both socialism and communism, originated in the West. It was inevitable given the changes that were being brought about by the Industrial Revolution, as well as the application of the scientific method outside of areas related to science and learning.
The Chinese practice, regarding communism or their current form of government and practice, actually goes against pure Eastern/Oriental thought.
That’s my point. Communism in theory is one thing, but in practice it is simply a fig leaf for authoritarian figures. Was Stalin really a communist, or was it a tool he used to consolidate his power?
What I was addressing:
Both communism and socialism originated in the West, not in the Far East/Orient. They’re not “merits” of Easter/Oriental thought.
As for debunking?
Eastern/Oriental thought have merits. An example of that is the development of manufacturing efficiency in Japan. They took a western concept, applying the scientific method to the work place, and infused eastern/oriental thought into the process. It served them well at our expense. We had to adopt the new process in order to remain competitive with them.
This isn’t the first time that a foreign power worked to infiltrate, and influence, American thought. This has been going on for decades. Here, a KGB defector explains the Soviet propaganda that is taking place at the time of this interview.
Definitely- really it has been going on almost since the beginning- there were Nazi and Communist rallies in the US in the 30’s; the Brits were trying to influence us in the early to mid 1800s. Santa Anna was a Social darling in NYC after his downfall as the Napolean of the West.
Eggsxactly. We must all Be Aware, Be very Aware.
Two problems as I see it. We are preaching to the choir here and you can’t confuse these idiots with the facts, their minds are made up.
Those of us who have been out in the real world, helped to defend freedom, married into families that were hurt by socialistic/communistic governments, know the dangers. The others? Not too much.
