Fire Chief Applicant Forged Military Records
According to a recent article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a Marietta Fire Chief applicant forged his military records.
Robert Kenneth Hume, of Campo, Calif., pleaded guilty to forgery and false representation of a veteran. He was also ordered to pay a $500 fine and sentenced as a first offender.
Hume claimed that during his time in the U.S. Army he was awarded medals he did not receive, including a Silver Star, Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He made the claim last April when he submitted an application to Marietta for the then-vacant fire chief position, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.
He was sentenced to 10 years probation. Since Hume is from California, his sentence was transferred to his home state.

I might be off, but from what I can tell for my decs is that there is a number associated with it that I always thought was similar to a unique ID. That way, I could provide said number if I ever needed a replacement medal. I’ve looked at my Dad’s decs and it is the same there. So 1) am I wrong in that interpretation? And 2) if I am correct, would that not be a very easy way to prove whether or not the award was earned? Any help/feedback is appreciated
As discussed on a previous thread, the awarding of medals is not always an indication of good character.
However, the claiming of unearned “medals” is generally a good indication of no character.
