Weekend Open Thread
OK, here’s yer WOT, model M1A3E1 (1 ea), for Friday, 23 November 2018.
The original WOT article for this week was set to run early, prior to Thanksgiving (traditionally a 4-day weekend). Somehow it ended up rescheduled to run today.
Unfortunately, due to embedded content the original WOT article was not really appropriate to run post-Thanksgiving, and I didn’t have enough time to draft a suitable replacement. So this is it for today; have fun anyway.
Enjoy the WOT, everyone – and the weekend.

Congrats HMC! May you be forever remembered for you week in the WOT Throne! I hope all you dickweed deplorables and weedetes have a joyous and Happy Thanksgiving! I would have been here sooner, but I was at the local gunstore making my next purchase!
Lock and Load!!
Short and sweet. Congrats HMC.
Congrats, Chief… run it like you’re running the MESS!
Good job, Chief.
Would have given you a run for your money, but my butt has been on the couch because of too much turkey triptafen (which has been debunked) but I’m sticking to my story anyhow. (smile)
Have a great and safe weekend all you TAH’ers.
And the crowd ROARS its approval.
Third!
Five.
I hereby surrender the coveted TAH WOT crown to HMC. Ya dickweed.
To OWB.
I tried out your suggestion and “waffleized” some leftover dressing, worked great and tasted real good.
Thanks.
Glad you liked it. “Waffleized” is a great description. Thanks!
Now, the big question: Yankee or Southern dressing? I’ve only waffleized cornbread dressing, so really can’t speak to how the mushy, light bread dressing might fare with the same treatment. Should be fine, if you like that sort of thing in the first place.
Cornbread, down south.
I didn’t know there was any other kind. 🙂
Gotta go with Cornbread Stuffing… both Mom and Nana made the best!
My Mom, Mother in law and wife all made or make it that way, it has always been my favorite at holiday meals, well that and deviled eggs.
My using last weeks WOT as a decoy did not work. I suck at this.
It kinda did work. I was replying to you when the REAL WOT popped up. I was going for a twofer.
Thanks for the hint.
Seperate machines.
Dammit. Well played, sir!
With suitable congratulations to HMC, current holder of the coveted WOT First, I present to you this week’s trivia column. And I want to thank all of you who’ve said so many nice things about this silly stuff I write … I truly appreciate all of you. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!! DID YOU KNOW…? Were two of the iconic sites in Beijing built by non-Chinese people? By Commissioner Wretched We now enter into the time of year that I like best. Thanksgiving … then Christmas … then New Year’s Day. And Hanukkah and Kwanzaa are also included in that stretch of happy times. If you were to ask me which of the holidays mentioned is my favorite, I would state with utter certainty that it’s New Year’s Day. Why, you ask? Because New Year’s Day is, to me, the first page of an unmarked year-long calendar, upon which we will all write the continuing stories of our lives. The new year brings new vistas, doesn’t it? It makes the foibles and problems of the old year seem that much more remote, and the potentials for happiness and joy seem much closer once we begin the new year. Of course, as I’ve noted in this column before, it’s really all arbitrary – the first day of the year hasn’t always been January 1. In fact, until the 16th century or so, New Year’s Day was the first day of spring. But it’s still my favorite, even though I long ago gave up the traditional booze-filled celebrating to welcome the new year. Among all those holidays, though, one thing remains the same … trivia. The little things in life, which I have made my mission to gather and present to you. Share your favorite holiday by dropping an e-mail to didyouknowcolumn@gmail.com and I might just let your thoughts take center stage here one day. In the meantime, on to the trivia! Did you know … … eighty percent of all Americans believe the government is hiding information about extraterrestrial visitors to Earth from the public? (The other 20% work for… Read more »
I had heard about the pirate earring thing, but I found some stuff on the Google that said pirates believed the earring would improve their vision… WTF? Silly Google…
A piece of trivia I remember from a high school History textbook: The 1886 World Fair saw the introduction of the Gasoline Engine, Ferris Wheel and the Ice Cream Cone.
Not just the families. The ring would pay for the Sailor’s burial if he washed up on the beach. If not, Davy Jones had a new bauble for his locker.
Fort Snelling, long closed, is being renovated at a cost of $100 million and converted into 1, 2, 3, 4 bedroom apartments for military veterans. The work is slated to be completed in 2021. I think the timeline is highly optimistic. If you want to see some wonderful old buildings, Google Fort Snelling. I would love to take my metal detector on the grounds. Think of he items (coins, jewelry, artifacts) that could be unearthed after continuous use for what, 70 years? Wow, just wow. Maybe this is the beginning of a widespread trend for the conversion of the dozens (hundreds ?) of old, abandoned military facilities. Oh, I just love old, abandoned places. The price is right and I’m thinking it would be worth relocating for some.
In theory, a great idea, but in Minnesota? Sounds pretty cold.
With Trump ultimately in charge, renovation really shouldn’t take very long. He knows a thing or three about building places for folks to sleep, right?
Best annual bivouac we did was at Snelling, down by the river. We usually went to Camp Ripley for the weekend, but one year they did Snelling. We were nowhere near the actual fort or these old buildings, we were in the state park.
AW1Ed, please check out the Trump/global warming thread for a cleanup of an inadvertent email posting please.
Went through twice, RGR. Seems someone beat me to it.
It is a video posted at 1:57 pm, there are 2 of the same video posted back to back about 1 minute apart and the first has an email address as the user name. Thanks.
Fixed.
Thank you.
Hey Gents
There’s some dbag over at Legal Innsurrection playing some chicken shit insinuation that I’m lying about serving in the Marines because I referred to myself as a “former Marine” (yah typical civilian expert..)
I told him I would fax you guys my DD214 soon as you confirm his donation of $200 to your site (for your time and energy).
Are you cool with that?
Works for me.
I would have been concerned if you had referred to yourself as an “Ex-Marine”. Although, I can think of a few.
Yeah, I am thinking ol’ Dangerous Dan Blather should be at the top of that list. “Courage,” everyone (from someone who never had any).
Add John Murtha to that list.
Easy for all of us to say – but I’m cool with it as well. Given that the admin team around would be the ones actually doing something about it instead of us. 😉
Which is why it’s so easy for us to make promises. 🙂
Fair warning: if the document is even a -tiny- bit hinkey, you will experience a rather unpleasant roasting.
If you have not reviewed posts here, going back a bit, they are instructive.
Having said that, welcome.
The ‘contact us’ data isn’t up to date, unfortunately. Use the link on the Contact Us tab to the Military Phonies site there, and provide the personal info listed. Perhaps they can help. Good luck.
Hi you all it’s been a while since I’ve been around
I’m doing fine… my better half is doing better also
I’m just wondering why or how I missed the posting

BHWHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
I feels good to be back here raising hell
Welcome back Skippy. There’s still enough bullshit for everyone.
Glad to see you back and doing well, Skippy!
Present and still first in the hearts and minds of my grandkids, so stick it in ‘er ear.
More in keeping with the season, I rejoice to say that my grandson who was in a Houston children’s hospital got to come home just in time to enjoy some Thanksgiving gumbo at his father’s aunt’s house. Surgery still looms in the future, but he is out of the hospital and currently building a stack of Leggos in my living room.
I am blessed. I pray all of you are as well.
Awesome Graybeard!
Glad to hear that your grandson is home.
Not an overly religious person, but am sending heartfelt prayers to you, your family & the youngun’.
Thanks, Sky. Much appreciated.
Skyjumper…it doesn’t pay or do any good to be an overly religious person…what pays is “relationship” with Jesus! He is the only payment for our sins and the only path to the father and paradise…just a historic note! 😉
What Desert said … ^^^
Great news. And, yes, I try to express gratitude daily for the many blessings.
Thirtysomething and Honorary First yet again!

YouTube finds for the week:
https://youtu.be/4mBnlZxT27A – 1941 US Army customs and courtesy videos. You US Army types like to say us Air Force had a corporate basic training, and if we do it started here. I like how they have seven trainees and lined up seven NCOs for them to demonstrate what their stripes mean. Or the guys being voyeurs outside the theater. Totally legit.
https://youtu.be/BMRmoHO8nes – Trump’s turkey day pardon. God he is epic at the way he can poke the bear in an otherwise super boring, routine event.

“AAEd, what is your second general order as a sentry?”

Get ready for the next phase of the American oil boom:
https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2018/11/thanks_oil_companies.html
Sweet!
Filled her up yesterday @ $1.969/gal in Dallas.
Damn! still $2.50 in Colorado.. of course with the sidesaddle governor (Hat tip to John Wayne in McClintock)that was just elected here, I’m sure our prices will go up due to taxes..
$3.23 here in rural Idaho, due to having a “ski resort” close by. Don’t even ask about diesel.
I read another article earlier this week talking about how further drilling in CONUS, especially in the Permian Basin is creating a LOT of heartburn for the Saudis and OPEC, people it’s VERY hard to feel sorry for!
I saw that too.
It’s not just the drilling in the Permian Basin in West Texas and the bottom eastern corner of New Mexico they built three new pipelines that will run to Houston and Corpus Christi.
In Houston they will probably have their terminus in Pasadena and will be refined there at the largest assortment of oil refineries in the known world. If you’ve seen them, it’s absolutely amazing. Right there on the Ship Channel and running about ten miles of solid oil refinery plants.
So look for cheaper gas, at least until the libs in the house and the RINO’s in the Senate decide that we aren’t paying enough for our gasoline.
Wisconsin’s new libidiot governor isn’t even in office yet and he already wants to raise the gas tax.
I have seen stupid people before, but the people of Wisconsin are some of the dumbest, even California has a hard time keeping up with them.
They kept diamond jimmuh doyle in office for 12 years even after he was caught stealing millions of dollars from the taxpayers to pay off his cronies in the light rail fiasco.
So they get rid of Walker just in time to jeopardize the huge new business relocation project in Kenosha.
Just incredibly stupid people…
I concur about Wisconsin. As to the pipelines, are there any new ones going toward the “Petrochemical Coast” of Louisiana? A number of refineries are there too!
The article I linked has pipeline maps. I saw a number heading to SE Texas, so I would infer that some feed a bit more easterly.
There are an amazing number of pipelines for petro-products in the USA. J D Rockafeller rarely gets much credit these days for this amazing innovation that brought stability and safety to the movement of staggering quantities of messy and flammable liquids.
Port Arther to be exact. Motiva (Shell, Amarco) and Valero expansion projects were completed and brought on-line…
If I remember correctly, Beaumont Texas also has some Petro Refineries as well!
Fox has an article on gas fuel price riots in France.
https://www.foxnews.com/world/thousands-of-french-police-use-tear-gas-water-cannon-against-paris-protesters
They are paying over $7 a gallon for gasoline. That is almost entirely tax.
Note that the French government proposes higher fuel taxes to get France onto renewable. So when folks here propose raising fuel taxes for renewables, know that seven bucks a gallon won’t get us there.
You have been warned.
Facts. logic and Common Sense are all complete and total anathemas to tax-and-regulate-aholic liberals, they will do all they can to try that on American soil.
Fox News apologizes for a guest’s comment about Hilary Clinton.

Yes, there is too much coarse language floating around with that generation, so much so that it no longer has shock value but it does mark them as social morons.
But the Dick Act of 1903? I had to look that up, because it sounded like a bad joke, but it is more properly referred to as the Militia Act of 1903 (32 Stat. 775), also known as “The Efficiency in Militia Act of 1903”, and also known as the Dick Act, legislation enacted by the United States Congress which created an early National Guard and codified the circumstances under which the Guard could be federalized.
It was presented by GEN Charles Dick, a member of Congress and was passed. It’s something with which I was unfamiliar. Now I’m interested in it.
Disappointed in my younger brother (again). I’ve written of him before. He spent about a year in the Navy but probably actually worked a total of a month. The remainder of the time he alternated between jails in Mexico and San Diego as well as Navy brigs here and there. When he wasn’t in jail, he was UA/AWOL. The Navy gave him a general under honorable conditions or some such.
Anyway, on his car bumper he is now sporting a ‘Vietnam Veteran’ sticker. True story: He was actually given a choice by a civilian judge to join the military or go to jail for B&E. Well, he isn’t totally stupid (although he is pretty close) so he chose the Navy and set about disappointing my parents yet again. Never had an A school. Never had an NEC other than that given for entry. Highway Patrol caught him smuggling Mexicans into the country, turned him over to the Navy and that was the last straw. OTD.
Gotta talk to him about that Vietnam Veteran sticker before someone smells his bullshit and tunes him up. Very disappointed. Oh, he also told his first wife, who died, that he was a sub sailor. Good thing she couldn’t read a 214. Not sure he can, either.
Intended as humorous comment only do not actually do this.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
Those of you who are placing Christmas lights/decorations in your yards, can you please avoid
anything that has Red or Blue flashing lights together?
Every time I come around the corner, I think it’s the police and I have a panic attack. I have to brake hard,
toss my drink out the window, fasten my seat belt, throw my phone on the floor, turn my radio down,
and push the gun under the seat. All while trying to drive.
It’s just too much drama, even for Christmas. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
I talked my missus out of Xmas lights years ago. I am too lazy to put them up. Plus, those damn Chinese mini-lights are wired in series, so when one bulb goes out, they all go out. Good luck trying to find the one bulb that is burnt out. I think they planned it that way, so we have to buy whole new strings every year.
I like the small battery powered LED strings. Put one out in the woods. On the side of a lonely road or some place out of the ordinary. Make somebody smile or at least have a passing thought.
Then recover them.
At last, a pretty good analysis of the current situation re “cold civil war”. Touches on an important change I recognized soon after DEROS in 1970.
https://imprimis.hillsdale.edu/americas-cold-civil-war/
I’m telling ya I always knew. I came back to see what others who did not serve were blinded to. They still are.
Kesler’s was a thoughtful analysis of the current political chasm, but seems to leave out a few relevant aspects. If you look at voting results from a geographic standpoint, for example, there’s an apparent split between urban city dwellers and those in rural areas. There’s also a clear demarcation between coastal areas and the “flyover” middle part of the country that some Democrats like to sneer at. What also seems to be adding fuel to the fire are apparent outside influences by those who have no direct stake in how the U.S. government functions, such as actual U.S. citizens, but want to disrupt it based on a foreign view or agenda. Unfortunately, the American left, with its ultimate goal of a happy-happy one world government, can’t seem to understand that there are global players who are not willing to jump on a happy-happy one-world train. At least not one where any control of the train is granted to Americans. Of course, if you mention this, those same foreign influences, anonymous or otherwise, are likely to start screaming “xenophobia.” A card which, like the race card, is also usually similar to a door which only swings one way. Too, Kesler doesn’t mention the increase in level of vitriol currently being thrown around. Browse through any major news website still allowing comments on stories, and the increase in viciousness, apparently a new normal, is remarkable. None of which would probably matter except that the concurrent shift in signal-to-noise ratio means any meaningful dialogue between those with fundamental differences of opinion is drowned out by all the inmates demanding control of the asylum. And the outlook is going to be grim for a near-term solution to the level of political rancor if major political figures encourage it. “You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about,” Hillary Clinton told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour in an October interview. “That’s why I believe, if we are fortunate enough to win back the House and or the Senate, that’s when civility can start again. But until… Read more »

Navy faced the Green Wave of Tulane today. Tulane scored late after a Navy comeback. (Tulane was up 21-3 at the half.) Tulane’s coach had a decision to make: go for the win or tie? Final: Tulane 29…Navy 28.

Interesting story. Strong minded woman. RIP.
I haven’t watched the NFL in forever. I have no idea who is in 1st place, last, or in between. I do sometimes read NFL-related stories, such as who was arrested for what. Today I read that Linebacker Reuben Foster (49ers) was arrested for DV. It was his 3rd arrest this year. The first was a gun and marijuana charge and the 2nd was also for DV. The 49ers were good to go the first and second times, talking about letting “due process” run its course but, this time, they decided that they had better cut the SOB. So, they finally did. In case you are wondering, the answer is yes. He was a kneeler.
I saw the kick off receiver take a knee in a college game yesterday. Nobody cared.
I want to put this out so it gets in the feed. (Maybe we will have another post on Barwan soon, but this will make it to Gooooogle.
Are any of the commenters that are reading this of the gamer community? I am not. I got a message that Kyle Christopher Barwan, recently released Ex-Convict has gone back to gaming online. Kyle Barwan, now out of prison is back where he can solicit money from unsupecting people. A friend has seen his gamer tag log in on Xbox live. His gamer tag is X2Girls1SniperX. If anyone here plays XBox, would you let us know what he seems to be doing, and if possible, engage him in conversation to see if he will claim any military experience, present or past? If he even farts like he is in the military, I will notify Sheriff Grady Judd in Polk County Florida, (where he is currently living), and he can slap his ass. Thank you.
Fall of slop at 2PM turned to snow by 2:30PM. Cleared off front steps, took trash to curb, put out bird food.

As a kid, I loved football. I played it. I watched it. Didn’t matter what level, NFL, college, high school, or pee wee. Football was pure enjoyment. That has changed a lot. The game at the big schools and the NFL is different than it used to be. It’s a faster game, with players running ungodly 40s and behemoths who are as quick as greased lightning off the ball. It has changed in other ways, too, and none of them good. So, I stopped watching the NFL a few years ago, before the kneelers took to kneeling. Arrests in the NFL are commonplace. Multiple arrests for the same players are too. And the big schools are now little different. Even schools who had my respect have lost it. Notre Dame is a case in point. I used to love that school’s football team, but it was having trouble competing with the Bamas and Ohio States and the other win-at-any-cost-just-win schools. I saw it happening, the transformation of the Irish, and then the thing became complete. Some five or six players were arrested when their car was stopped and a gun and drugs were found in the vehicle. One of the players was a potential star. He was suspended for four games for an undisclosed reason. He’s back and performing. But he and the others cost my allegiance. Notre Dame is no better or worse than the other football factories whose coaches rake in millions. So, now I watch some college games but not many, and I support my local high school team. Army/Navy is December 8. I will be glued to the set, not just because I want to see Army win the Big Trophy, but because the game remains as most of football once was. And I love it so.
And in this same vein about HS Football, I need to send out my congratulations to the Indiana 1A team from the neighboring county that Twist and I are from and who plays both the teams that we root for.
It’s the kids from Royal Center, IN (Pioneer is the name of their school) and they have pulled off a three-peat of the Indiana State Class 1A Championship with their latest win of 60-0 over the kids from North Vermillion.
They were pretty dominant this season, going 15-0 with 11 shutouts and only giving up a grand total of 39 points in those 15 games.
Their season Offense Average was 62.4ppg and their Defensive Average was 2.6ppg.
So, here’s to ya, Panthers. BZ for a Job Well Done!!
Oops, screwed up big time.
It was not a three-peat of the 1A champeenship for Pioneer, only a back-to-back.
Mea Culpa
That bespeaks a solid program, when kids win or are highly competitive every year. Where I am, there is one high school that seems to be in the state championship game yearly. Whiners say that the school cheats, but it doesn’t. It just has a solid program that awards no starting position to a kid who had it last year or is a senior this year. It must be earned.
Claw & 2/17th Air Cav:
You know what is great about High School and College Football?
The Stadiums are full. Not like the empty seat syndrome of the NFL…
Bbbwwhhhaaa….
One of the by-products of ESS (Empty Seat Syndrome) is the falling values of PSLs. This money-making gimmick required folks who wanted season tickets to buy a Personal Seat License. It is transferable and can be sold on the open market. Well, hell’s bells, guess what? Those who bought them can’t sell them for face value, let alone a profit, in many, if not most, venues.
You’re right.
Look what happened to this poor guy:

From the article: “Moreover, the Santa Clara Stadium Authority, the government entity that sold the licenses, has reported an increase in the default rate among those who financed their licenses….” That’s a hoot. Idiots took loans to buy PSLs.
