Long time ago. Like yesterday. Or this morning.
Hope you can find some peace.

2/17 Air Cav

If you look at that pic and you watch that video you will see that this isn’t just another open thread. Maybe later, for me. In the meantime, I will join with 26 Limabeans in wishing peace of mind and of heart to all who had a direct link to the Beirut attack.

God Bless all that were there and didn’t return home…….
And screw all of those that said they were there and weren’t, you are the worst scumbags of all!

I take the fifth. Comment, that is.

FIRSTish!

Sapper3307

I considered that bombing the start of the global war on freedom from the muZZies.

Ex-PH2

There are some things I will never understand.

That truck bombing was one of them.

Bombing the USS Cole was another one.

The Oklahoma City truck bombing was another.

Four hijackings, using passenger planes to destroy lives was another one.

Now we have crowds of people that seem to be filled with rabid, uncontrollable hatred, which I fully expect to turn into blood on the pavement and it is over nothing.

Some day, someone please explain this to me. Not right now.

HMC Ret

Me, too. I want to understand this, also.

AW1Ed

Khobar Towers, another act of war by Iran.
Never forget, never forgive.

SFC D

I cannot comprehend how any human being can harbor so much hate that they would carry out an attack like those and others, Ex. It helps when your “religion” actively teaches and encourages it, but that doesn’t explain away Oklahoma City. Or the hate that is becoming business as usual for the left. I too, am afraid there will be blood on the pavement and on the border. I pray that I am wrong.

2/17 Air Cav

What’s to understand? That there is evil in the world? That there are people who want to kill you b/c you are an American or a Christian or a Jew? That if you are wearing the uniform, you are a faceless, nameless representative of a country despised by others and that killing you is a blow against that country? If all of the terrorists were to gather in one place, I would be happy to be the guy who pushes the button or pulls the trigger to eliminate them. I see them as I do a hornets’ nest under the porch. There is no talking with them or negotiating with them or bothering to show mercy to them. It’s unfortunate but that’s the way it is.

BlueCord Dad
SFC D

Cav, THAT I understand and concur 100%. We are at war with islam, no matter what our elected officials claim. Most of America is in happy denial of that fact. Islam does not have a monopoly on evil, it has many faces.

HMC Ret

” Most of America is in happy denial of that fact.” Unfortunately true.

Ex-PH2

If you want to push the button, I will draw straws with you for the privilege, AirCav.

Does that put me at their level, or is it simply self-defense?

2/17 Air Cav

“Does that put me at their level, or is it simply self-defense?”

Was the dropping of the A bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki self defense? Strictly speaking, the answer is no, notwithstanding the military base at Hiroshima. Did it reduce us to the level of Japanese cannibalism? I think not. The immediate effects were devastating to people in those cities that August in 1945, but the ultimate result was that many more Japanese would have perished under an allied invasion, not to mention the tremendous number of casualties we would have suffered. Plus, it worked.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

They only understand one thing, force of arms. They understand we don’t intend to use the full force of arms against them so they can slowly bleed us over decades without taking any great losses on their side.

It’s why I don’t like us being there, it doesn’t seem we have any actual plan.

If I were the CinC it would be a matter of teaching them the old Roman slogan, Oderint Dum Metuant….

Using the full force of arms and horror to do so….ROEs that allowed anyone out at night to be killed without any issue for the troops, burn everything that grows. Kill everything that can be eaten and leave it to rot…kill everyone in a mosque while they’re kneeling…use napalm to do it…let them understand fucking with us, threatening us, only leads to their misery over and over and over.

I seem them as far more than a hornet’s nest…I see would be murderers without concern for my life or those who matter to me, consequently I would visit upon them the full horror of unrestricted, total warfare. Kill their women and children, their elderly and their precious love partner goats. Leave crying in agony without any humanity whatsoever…Let them hate, so long as they fear.

ArmyATC

There is no explanation for religious and political fanatics, and make no mistakes that’s what they are, fanatics. They are so steeped in their ideologies, so brainwashed by their propaganda that any dissent is seen as a threat and violent retaliation is acceptable, even called for. It rises to the level of dangerous mass mental illness. Most of the fanatics are beyond hope.

I’ll make a prediction, and I pray that I’m proven wrong. If Republicans retain control of the House and Senate the left will become completely unhinged and blood will flow in the streets. The left has already shown a propensity for violence with the Antifa fascists who the leftist Democrats have openly embraced. They are committed Socialists who want to see the downfall of our Republican form of government.

Ex-PH2

Hmmm…. I wonder how this will work out at election time. I’m concerned about these things in ways I never imagined would happen.

Interfering with elections is a criminal offense and carries penalties up to a 5 year jail sentence. Article 180 outlines the part in which demanding to know how someone voted is a criminal offense. There’s other stuff, too.

https://www.usip.org/sites/default/files/MC1/MC1-Part2Section15.pdf

It appears that it’s going to be a touch-and-go voting season this time, depending on where you are.

Maybe we’ll get lucky this time and they’ll only need hoses to water the lawns near the polling places.

Slow Joe

I still have my doubts about Ted Cruz. He had my support early in the primaries, then he pulled that “vote your conscience ” bullshit, and I have a hard time trusting him again.

I am talking about the big picture, of course, 2024 and beyond, not these midterms.

Beto Kennedy is chipbag and made-up candidate. Besides I vote in GA, not TX.

OldManchu

“Besides I vote in GA, not TX.”

That doesn’t matter. Democrats, including Beto, will gladly take your vote however you can get it. 🙂

Mason

Was just reading about how the socialist candidate in Floida’s whole family was voting in Florida (presumably for him) despite not residing there.

Absentee Ballot?

5th/77th FA

The current Dim guvunator candidate is GA is espousing “I see no problem with burning the flag” and “we change GA we change the South. We change the South we change the USA.” Sound familiar? She has gotten mega $ from Soros, DiFi, Maxi Pad, Nanny P. These idiots do not realize that it is better to die fighting for liberty with a weapon in hand, than to die in a re-education camp, or a small caliber bullet into the back of the head, or herded into an airtight room with a hose from an automobile exhaust pipe run into it.

AnotherPat
5th/77th FA

Yeah, it got quite contentious and even very stupid and political on several occasions, big surprise. Been a lot of back and forth on the 1956 Flag. That AJC article gave just enough info to be dangerous. No deep background at all. The ’56 Flag, addition of the St. Andrews Cross, Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia, was added, with bi-partisian support to honestly honor the men of GA who fought for the CSA. (From 1865-1877 GA was under “bayonet rule”; ie Reconstruction Gov) Keep in mind there were not a whole lot of Republicans here then. GA was a yellow dog Democrat State then. The WBTS Centenn ial was getting fired up, tourism was starting to boom with the Interstate starting, the Dixie Hi-Way to FL a tourist trap from Reseca to Lake Park. Side bar, most blacks in GA then were Republicans. The mass exodus to the Dim side didn’t start till the 1964/65 “Voting Rights/Civil Rights Acts were signed by LBJ. In the ’90s “Zig-Zag” Zell Miller flipped and flopped and dodged the issue to ensure his reelection. Barnes literally lost his 2nd term chance when he snuck in the “Circus/Rainbow Blue Flag when he slid that thru “one dark rainy night.” Sonny Perdue beat out Barnes running on the campaign promise to allow a state wide vote on the matter, with the ’56 version being one of the choices. Well, he lied too. Soon after he rammed the change thru and his re-election, he, along with a massive amount of other Dem pols switched to the Repub side. Very few will admit it, but in GA now, most of the Repubs are RINOs and most of the dims lean heavy to the left wing socialist. The major inner cities (Atl.,Col.,Aug.,Sav.,Mac.,Alb.) are turning into strongly liberal enclaves, the whole welfare state, sanctuary cities ect coming on. If the RINO we have running for Guv don’t make it, the working man is screwed. Each pay day I try to buy a few more rounds and a few more packs of survival rations. Now that they have… Read more »

Authoritative, fascist governments sound great if YOUR friends are in power. Unfortunately the winds of dictators are fickle. Lots of people who thought Stalin was on their side found out the hard way they were but a little purge away from being disappeared.

Wow. I enlisted this month 35 years ago. I went back to MEPS in December and had my “official” swearing in after all the physical and everything cleared.
My pay day for the next 23 years was December 7th.
I didn’t leave for Basic until May 1 of 84.
I remember this and thought, Oh holy hell, why don’t we wipe these people who attack us off the face of the Earth?
I was 20 and full of piss and vinegar.
Now I believe I’ve softened with age.
I don’t want to kill everyone and break all their shit, but, yeah, a lot of the post 1979 middle eastern fuckers and then generations that came after them need(ed) to die a horrible death. Still do.

The Hannan Wildcats are a high school football team in Ashton, WV. It is a tiny school and how it fields a football team is beyond me. The team is winless and the final scores look like one half basketball and the other baseball. Anyway, last Friday one of their players scored a 60 yard TD. The young man is afflicted with autism and his entering the game no doubt was accompanied by a meeting of the opposing coaches. Well, let’s just say that the other 21 players on the field cheered for the young when he scored. Wish I was there, but I was at another game in another place. The team I was rooting for won easily but the highlight of the event occurred before kickoff when God Bless America was played beautifully by the school band, followed by the National Anthem, for which no one moves from a standing position until it is done. Cornball? You bet! Aint’t it great.

FUNNIES!!
HERE’S TO OUR AIR FORCE! 🙂
On some Naval Air Station the Navy is on one side of the field and civilian aircraft use the other side of the field, with the control tower in the middle.
One day the tower received a call from an aircraft asking….
“What time is it?”
The tower responded….
“Who is calling?”
The aircraft replied…
“What difference does it make?”
The tower replied….
“It makes a lot of difference.
1) If it is an American Airlines flight, it is 3 o’clock.
2) If it is an Marine Corp plane, it is 1500 hours.
3) If it is a Navy aircraft, it is 6 bells.
4) If it is an Army aircraft, the big hand is on the 12 and the little hand is on the 3.
5) If it is an Air Force aircraft, it’s Thursday afternoon and 120 minutes to “Happy Hour.”

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. What a beauty of a bird feeder it was, as I filled it lovingly with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the crap. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table … everywhere! Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And others birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food. After a while, I couldn’t even sit on my own back porch anymore. So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be ….. quiet, serene…. and no one demanding their rights to a free meal. Now let’s see…… Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care and free education, and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen. Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families; you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor; Your child’s second grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn’t speak English. Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to ‘press one ‘ to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than ”ours” are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.… Read more »

Congratulations, New Hampshire, where a judge has just decided that proving your residency at the polls is too burdensome. No proof? Just sign here. It’s like what happens when you drive a vehicle, have no license, and get stopped by police. The officer just says, with a smile, “Sign right here saying that you have a license and you will be on your way!”

Mason

Yes, and according to the left, minorities are too incompetent and/or stupid to procure government ID.

We’ve made voter fraud so easy, it’s practically encouraged.

2/17 Air Cav

Speaking of voting, I am done with even considering a Democratic Socialist (a/k/a Democrat) for any position at any level of gov’t. All candidates who subscribe to the lunacy of the Democratic Socialists–and all do by choosing to register and to run as Democrats do–are automatically eliminated from consideration. Previously, I would at least look at some of them for local office, such as register of wills and even sheriff. No more.

OWB

Yep. It has become increasingly difficult to find a sane dem on the ballot. The last couple of elections, none were to be seen on my ballot. Even in uncontested races, not sure I found even one for whom to cast a vote.

I may vote for one this time around. But, he’s not running as a dem, is old enough to have some sense about him, and is well known/trusted among some friends whose opinions I value.

The ones I really don’t trust are those who switch parties, especially those who do so multiple times. Sure, some have awakenings that they can explain but most are just opportunists.

Ex-PH2

Ver-r-r-ry interesting, AirCav.

This morning’s paper tells us that for IL AG, the Democrat candidate was chosen as Obama’s replacement when he went off to WDC to be the Senator from Illinois, has a variety or legal experience. But his argument is that his opponent has never been a prosecutor.
His Republican opponent, a female attorney who has plenty of experience in litigation, is more focused on the corruption problem in the state and on reducing convict recidivism through education and going through a program sponsored by Prison Fellowship.

If I have to choose, I’d choose HER because HE has sponsored laws to curb the flow of illegal guns, which haven’t worked so far, but he admits that “we can’t gun-law our way out of this”.

And SHE got the endorsement of the Chicago Tribune, which says they either think she may be better qualified, or they’re just kowtowing to the PC crowd.

There’s also a libertarian with the first name of Bubba, but his campaign phone number is disconnected and gives no responses to e-mail inquiries.

Mason

Corruption in Illinois? Is this a new problem? /sarc

What is it, four of the last seven IL governors has ended up in prison? She’ll be a busy lady. Combine fighting the corruption with actually enforcing the gun laws against the violent thuggery and Chicago will be a completely different city.

MrBill

In Texas judicial candidates still run in partisan elections (one of only a handful of states that still do this) – for a job that, done correctly, is non-partisan. So I’ve always ignored party labels and will continue to do so. There are four local judges whom I know personally; three are Republicans and one is a Democrat, and all are outstanding and will have my vote.

Our Republican attorney general, Ken Paxton, is under indictment, and the Republican agriculture commissioner, Sid Miller, is an absolute buffoon. Their Democrat opponents are well-qualified and seem fairly moderate, so those are two Democrats I’ll be voting for.

So I’ll still be voting majority Republican, but I’ve never been able to bring myself to pull the straight-ticket lever – because I know that if I do, I’ll inevitably be voting for at least a few less-qualified candidates, if not outright crooks or buffoons.

2/17 Air Cav

I do not vote a straight ticket (i.e., pulling the lever for all R’s or D’s.) My choice is a Republican or no one in a particular race. If a communist ran for office, I would not entertain whether the communist appeared to be a qualified, competent and decent person. Would you?

2/17 Air Cav

The Democratic Socialists certainly took one on their collective chin in the last presidential election and they remain upset. They may or may not have that “blue wave” they’ve been talking about for months, but one thing is for certain: they do not respect your vote. That’s why they want to eliminate the electoral college, why they want statehood for Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia, why they want to increase the size of the House of Representatives, why they want to pack the Supreme Court, and why they want to allow an unchecked, illegal, and disorderly influx of foreign nationals into this country. If they do accomplish what they are now floating and the dutiful, faithful media are talking about, it will be because too many lazy or unaware Americans did not vote to stop them.

MrBill

If you think that a Democrat is the same as a Communist, or a socialist, I don’t know what to tell you. Some Democrats identify as socialists. The vast majority do not. I know what a socialist is; none of the Democrats that I am voting for are socialists. Too many people throw around political epithets indiscriminately – anyone to the left of me is a socialist. Anyone to the right of me is a fascist. I don’t buy into that nonsense.

2/17 Air Cav

Actually, I never said that a Democrat is the same as a socialist. What I said is that I would not consider voting for a communist. I did not mention socialists either, who are nothing more than an early stop on the communist railroad. What I did label–and do label–is Democrats and Democratic Socialists. I do not use labels indiscriminately. Try looking at what the Democratic Socialists represent and desire and then look at the Democrats. If you do that, then let me know the differences between them.

26Limabeans

I have a local decision to make about voting for a Democrat. Nice guy. Been around forever. Viet of the name Vet. NRA “A” rating.
His opponent is an unknown woman with an R but a door to door canvasser told me she would help the unions unlike the “D” guy. I smell a plant.
Do I go with the tried and true NRA rating for the Democrat, take chance on the suspect “R” or just take a pass on both?
I like the “D” guy. But that “D”. How do I get past that scarlet letter?

https://www.mlive.com/news/detroit/index.ssf/2018/10/brothers_could_pay_nearly_half.html

“Brothers Gary and Matt Percy could face nearly half a million dollars in penalties for removing more than 1,400 trees from their property without permission from Canton Township…But the Township requires land owners to gain permission and promise new tree plantings before cutting down existing forestry, especially for landmark or historic trees.”

So…one has to pay taxes on their property, but doesn’t have a say-so? Is this similiar to obeying the rules of Homeowners Association, where one also has to pay fees on top of their taxes?

They needed a permit. They were told to get a permit. They failed to get a permit. They are now screwed. New York has been joined by New Jersey, California, and Washington in targeting the NRA by using the weight, wealth, and legal resources of government against that organization. More Democratic Socialist states are expected to sign on to the effort. Go ahead. Vote Democrat. Make Davis Hogg happy.

Yep. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is finding new allies in his campaign to “bankrupt” the National Rifle Association, as three additional states follow his call to take legal action against the gun-rights group’s insurance program:

“San Francisco will become the largest city in the United States and one of only a handful nationwide to allow noncitizens, including people in the country illegally, to vote in a local election in November.

They are only allowed to vote in the city school board race, and the fear that their information may reach U.S. officials appears to be stronger than the desire to have a say in their children’s education. Only 35 noncitizens have signed up to vote as of Monday, the registration deadline in California, according to San Francisco’s Department of Elections. The state allows people to register and vote on Election Day.”

So, a black p/t instructor takes his car into Firestone and then walks over to a DDs for a coffee and a donut. After an hour, an employee tells him he’s been there long enough and, of course, RACISM! The police are called and, b/c of that, the p/t college instructor tells the employee that ‘You put my life in danger!’ How? BLM, of course. The p/t instructor, who can’t seem to keep a job, has an interesting work history listed on FB. It includes Basic Combat Training Class of 2002. I shit you not. Take a look.

He also went to the Officer Basic Course at Fort Lee, VA in 2005. Possibly a US Army Quartermaster Officer or if things have change, Transportation Corps or Ordnance Corps.

Hmmmm…if he went to Basic Training in 2002, then am speculating he got his Commission via ROTC while attending college and may have been in the National Guard or Army Reserves.

Thank you for sharing that story. The story mentioned that he was wearing his “Army Jacket” when confronted at Dunkin Donuts…and that DD later sent him a letter of apology.

Hard to believe this TV Episode was broadcasted almost 70 years ago. It is from the Texico Theater starring Milton Berle

Today, I watched a person get into a small argument with a clerk at a grocery store. The person was trying to buy lottery tickets with food stamps (EBT card?). The answer was NO to that individual, who then claimed the money was going to help the school system.

The clerk held her ground. The person evidentually relented…and pulled out two $20 Bills to pay for those tickets. Yep…$40 for those tickets, but needed assistance to purchase food.

And I thought I have seen everything. Go figure.

You know, Girls and Boys, the older this old dog gets, the less a life in prison sentence seems to be a deterrent. you know what I mean? You can’t fix stupid, and there is no way you could re-educate them all before you got caught. I worry for my Grandchildren.

I concur. Their adulthood appears doomed the way things have been going the past 40 years.

I am dealing with morons here in Austin as a boil water order was given two days ago.
There has been flooding in Central Texas and the water in the reservoir’s is obviously dirtier than usual so they issued a boil order.
With the problem being siltification the boil order is the exact wrong thing to give.
Silt is dirt, plain and simple and the way the city of Austin gets its water supply they use time and the reservoirs to let the semi dissolved solids leach out with gravity being the main way of reducing the silt.
Sooooo….. Follow me here, this makes sense if you have a modicum of science knowledge.
So by giving a boil order what is really happening is that if you have ever boiled water, the water moves almost continually so the silt doesn’t get a chance to ever settle to the bottom.
In fact with silt being the culprit a simple Brita water filter would clean it out, simple as that…
So instead of making the situation better, they actually are making it worse.
There’s more to the story, I worked late today, so I’ll explain more tomorrow…
But; you; just; cannot;, I, said, cannot; make; this; shit; up… AND, it gets worse !!!
Sigh……………………………………………………
Film at eleven…..

Get a whole bunch of coffee filters, let the silt settle and pour the water out of the bucket, through the filters in a sieve, into another bucket.

Then clean out the silty bucket, boil the clean water (or filter it again, just to be sure) and store it.

I keep three gallon jugs of water for those odd times when the water main has a break. They are rare, but they happen.

I had all of my teeth pulled in September. The temporary dentures are better than not having teeth, at least in respect of speaking. The dentures were relined after a week and felt pretty good. Now, it’s around three weeks and it is definitely time for another reline.

It may be implausible but I still feel like I have tooth problems. The gums are irritated and I feel like I still have tooth aches.

Anyone else have similar experience?

My sister lost all her teeth in her thirties. Dentures are always giving her trouble but as you stated they are far better than nothing. Her voice did not change and speech is normal but the maintenace is a pia. She works as a denturist.

I spend a lot of money on my teeth. Almost a third are gold crowns over root canals.
My dentist tells me that most health issues begin with dental problems. Including heart issues.
Hope your permanent set works out for you.
Just don’t use them as wire strippers like some Signal guys do.

My mom had all hers taken out, replaced with permanent dentures. Took her about two years to work her way up to hard food again. Six months or so she was eating just soft food. First two or three months it was obvious she was in pain most of the time.

Press on and it’ll get better.

If you notice the black and white photo for the start of this blog, this is me with the Marine on the stretcher being pulled from the rubble that was in that photo. His name is Morris Dorsey. I consider him a good friend and we got to meet up on 10-23-2018.
