Trailblazing female is getting kicked out for fraternization
Lance Cpl. Remedios Cruz, Marine Aircraft Group 12, recites the Oath of Enlistment after being meritoriously promoted at Anderson AFB, Guam, Dec. 4, 2013. (Lance Cpl. Richard Currier/Marine Corps)
The Marine Times reports Remedios Cruz, who in 2017 made history when she became one of three females to join 1st Battalion, 8th Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Now she is awaiting separation after pleading guilty to maintaining a romantic relationship with a subordinate.
Cruz, 26, eventually married the person, who was a lower-ranking Marine in her unit, according The New York Times.
“The biggest mistakes I’ve made in the infantry were from my personal relationships,” Cruz told the Times. “I really want to move on.”
The biggest mistake she made was not following regulations.

But the real question of the day is, would Sarc hit that??
He’d hit a tire wearing a dress. 😂
Not sure about a tire in a dress, but did hear that a gun bunny once told him to take a flying phuque at a rolling donut. The gun bunny is still on medical leave.
Got video? If Sarc won’t, I might!
Who is surprised by this? I don’t care what General order is issued. You put men and women in close quarters the inevitable will happen.
While that’s true it leads to bigger issues. When with a small unit and some folks are fuzz bumping the focus becomes on who’s getting some and is no longer on the wire. I saw it several times when I was coming up through the ranks and once I was the NCOIC I’d preach to my folks not to shit in their own nest.
Garold that sounds like wise advice. Joe Snuffy and the E4 Mafia aren’t the only ones in need of that sermon judging by the number of GO/Flag officers who have been caught dipping their pens in company ink.
We had no females in the Cavalry when I was in. I saw zero women except for a few civilians for 7+ months from AUG1990 SA to APR1991 Iraq/Kuwait. Then we saw a bunch of female refugees during the exodus from Iraq/SA back to Kuwait.
The E4 Mafia is not what it used to be.
You nailed it. I served roughly the same time frame – 1989 to 1992 – and women were rare even just on post around the infantry garrison.
However, the modern “all male” troops don’t have to suffer that. They have plenty of trans-gender among them to fill the “gap.”
No kidding, and everyone told them this would happen when the morons planned on it! Now they want to make a spectacle of those that act like humans?? She married the guy, get the bullshyt over with, reinstate her if you want women marines….!! imho
Yep.
Sounds like a #metoo story, except reverse, and could have been completely prevented while also not fucking up the unit and their time having to prosecute someone that said “fuck your rules..i’ll do what I want”.
What a shit show. This is the “infantry” now. I have zero doubt all of those females have been slayed by numerous marines in the barracks. This one was just so attached to the dick she doesn’t care anymore.
“This is my rifle, this is my…… uh…”
Well, well, well.
In quite a few decades in and around the military I’ve known, and suspect that many of you have as well, quite a few couples who managed to each have a successful military career even with very disparate ranks. In each case, they were more than discreet prior to their marriage and made absolutely sure that their chains of command were well separated before anyone became aware of any potential charge of fraternization.
Act like an immature idiot and it should come as no surprise that you are treated like one.
Lots of people are married to or dating other service members. Just can’t do it in the same chain of command and the relationship has to start when you’re in the same rank tier. It’s pretty simple, and as I recall discussed during basic training. If not covered there, I KNOW it’s discussed in NCO training.
To borrow a phrase from Tom Kratman:
(Holding hands out, about six inches apart)
“Deterrence fails by -this- much.”
Went to high school w/ Kratman. Good guy.
John Wright
This gives “F the Lieutenant” new meaning.
‘Pears like the LT was the one doing the “EFFing”. Possibly the heat of her ass did addle her brain? Didn’t have a whole lotta exposure back when, cause there wasn’t too many girl soldiers. Had one I was doing some training of, she (PFC) made no bones about it. Looking for a hubby O5 or better. I ETSd while she was still on the prowl.
I think the angle of the dangle was equal to the heat of the meat times the mass of the ass!
Whoops. Misread that bigtime.
I guess these overgrown teenagers have never heard of that rule about ‘don’t “date” anyone you work with or for’.
I do get tired of people who think with their crotches or sit on their brains.
Or never get your meat where you make your bread
And here we go again. Am so glad in the 20 years I put in that I never had to serve in a unit that was authorized female personnel.
Actually surprised she wasn’t awarded a Navy/Marine Accommodation Medal and promoted to SSgt for that little caper./smile
Accomodation Medal…..With a mattress device
Who was the OP (Original Phony) who had that in his terribly forged 214?
Don’t know who the original OP was, but I do know that Albert Ruiz (exposed here on TAH in Dec 2015) listed a Navy Accommodation Medal w/V Device on his altered DD214 which eventually led to him being elected to the New York State Veterans Hall of Fame.
Funny thing, I once heard an S-1 Officer (Battalion Adjutant) call someone’s award the “Army Accommodation Medal” during a ceremony where the Soldier was receiving the award.
I even said to the guy next to me, “hmm is that a new award? I must not have heard of that one.”
Because she was so accommodating? The award you’re thinking of is either the Navy/Marine Commendation Medal, or the Navy/Marine Achievement Medal.
*grin*
With Women joining the Infantry, I wonder just how quickly a number of them will suddenly get pregnant as soon as deployment orders come out?
They’ve been doing that for a while, API. Didn’t you know that?
Yes I know, but that’s going to put a strain on the Combat Readiness of Line Units!
There was a supply clerk in one of my units who was (in)famous as a ‘morale booster’, the other females didn’t take to kindly to her.
She never did get pregnant, but then again her nickname was ‘Backdoor Betty’
Infantry unit or not, she could have been with a supply unit and the outcome would have been the same.
The rules didn’t change, regardless if she was one of the first to earn an 03xx most. She knew better (or should have).
The whole “first women in the infantry discharged by the mean ol’ Marine Corps is the media’s way of scrutinizing the USMC and not having a fair grasp of good order and discipline.
Obey the 12th Commandment.
Thou shalt not boink the hired help.
“The biggest mistakes I’ve made in the infantry were from my personal relationships”
Hmm. . . adding females to a formerly all male unit and romantic relationships get in the way?
If only someone had foreseen this.
“Surprise. Surprise, Sgt. Carter,” as PFC Pyle would exclaim. Whooda thunk it, putting young males and females together in close, round the clock contact on a daily basis, some of whom are romantically attracted to each other, and then romance ensues?
Go figure. Who would have guessed that men and women working in close quarters would bring up romance. I’m just shocked I tell you!
If this social justice, equality for all (whether they are equal to the task or not) doesn’t stop, more troops will died as a direct result.
Never heard of a low ranking NCO getting the boot for banging a non-rate, unless it was in an Instructor Student environment.
I knew quite a few NCOs who were married to non-rates. I even knew a Staff Sergeant who married a PFC he had recruited into the Corps. He didn’t catch one bit of flack about it even though she ditched his ass for smacking her around and cheating on her.
Methinks they were gunning for her, maybe with good reason.
Reminds of a dud E-9 we had at Fort Bragg, for years he shared a private office with his E-4 wife. He was the only dot on head, Indian E-9 in the Army.
Doctrine Man’s facebook page has bunches of people talking about it as if they know everything and are claiming it is purely because she’s female.
A couple people even tried to explain, look she’s in a leadership position, this ain’t supposed to be a thing. she should know better, etc etc. Even one “discussion” about whether Corporals are “Officers” or not. That one’s pretty funny, a couple of people are trying to say, “NCOs aren’t officers! They’re enlisted, duh!” Because the O in NCO stands for “Oh my God how dumb are you people?” right?
Bottom line, don’t shit where you eat. If you are banging someone in another company, good deal. But you start banging someone internally, something bad will happen.
I hope it’s an Honorable Discharge.
She messed up and broke rules.
General at best.
By her name I’ll assume she is filipino. Having been married to a filipino x 44yrs I share with you that the family and extended relatives are devastated by this. Military service and the respect in their culture for a career in the Marines is high. Lots of shame for her.
Surprising..most all the filipinos I served with in the USN were hard charging, proud and focused. A few real screw ups..but darn few
CAPT Bones USN (ret)
I’ll vouch for that, while I was AD I served with some Filipinos who were some VERY squared away individuals!
From what I understood when I was in, there was a quota set for the number of Filipinos who were allowed to enlist every year and there was a very detailed and extensive screening to get those slots.
The ones I served with who came through this were pretty shit hot and squared away.
They considered it a privilege and a fast track to US citizenship.
her mistake was not letting command know. i am not sure what rank she held at the time, bu considering she got married to the person its kind of funky that they would bring charges on her after the fact. i think there is more to this story then meets the eye…
“more to the story than meets the eye” – I’d agree with that.
If she married the guy, what is the real problem? There are plenty of people who work as married couples and do quite well, so U;d agree that something else is going on here.
Maybe one or both of them refused to transfer to another command.
I suspect that what happened it that when her superior NCO’s and officers found they were getting married, someone started an investigation and found they were doing the horizontal mambo when she was his squad leader, which would be extreme “fraternization.” And the powers that be want to make an example out of her, since this unfortunate event is what those opposed to co-ed infantry said would be a common occurrence.
Although, in 0bama’s multi-culti LGBTQWERTY armed forces, maybe banging your squad leader could be a recruiter’s selling point.
At least this case has a relatively happy ending. Sooner or later there will be jilted boyfriends/girlfriends (or any combination of the two(or more?)) or other messy and highly emotional situations. In combat zones, where weapons and explosives are freely available, and where people are a bit more on edge, there will be fatalities.
It may not be nice, but I will still say “I told you so”.
Correctamundo, timA.
Might have already happened, timactual – and not in a combat zone.

I seem to remember rumors at the time that the Quantico incident was due to a relationship gone bad. But I don’t think I ever read anything that confirmed that point. The motive for the Meade incident is well-documented.
Pulling up some stuff from the Wayback Machine, I seem to recall a love triangle involving a few officers gone bad back in the 90’s.
I’ll have to look for it when I have time.
My all-time favorite is the tale of Kelly Flinn. She was screwing an enlisted woman’s husband, quite indiscreetly, and among other offenses she disobeyed a direct order by her CO to cease and desist.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelly_Flinn
This gives a whole new meaning to “drop your cocks and grab your socks…”
You forgot “… it’s Reveille!”
…I suspect another part of the problem is that she knew perfectly well she was likely not there because of her abilities but in great part because of her chromosomes. And that in turn led her to think she was bulletproof…

Is there a female conversion for the “little head thinking for the big head”?
“Cli%oris like a Ferrari clutch”, perhaps?
From the linked article above:
‘“Regardless of the outcome of this case, Corporal Cruz has been a courageous pioneer for women in the military and she has earned a place in Marine Corps history,” Cruz’s lawyer, Capt. Jacob R. Johnston, said in a statement to The New York Times.’
She has ‘earned a place in Marine Corps history’?
YGTBSM.
No she hasn’t.
What she has earned is an other-than-honorable discharge for knowingly violating the UCMJ, and she should be quickly forgotten.
Unfortunately, she won’t be forgotten. Lucrative book/movie deals and endless invitations to appear on the talk show circuit where she will be falsely portrayed and feted as a ‘tragic victim of Marine Corps institutional misogyny’ are probably already in the works.
That’s the whole problem Mick. She’s special because she, is a she. The drag queen sailor we read about recently was special because he was a drag queen off duty. Nothing about their service or job performance. That’s when I smell the rat and call bullshit on this stuff. Regular service members, doing their jobs get nothing (and when I was in were told to expect nothing). But be a woman in a man’s role, a queer or some sideways cocktail of normal and the articles abound.
No, she has NOT earned a place in Marine Corps history. There are many women who went before her that have been completely ignored by the media, who DID make history.
I am fed up with this ‘look at me’ crap, and this juvenile behavior by people who know better but think they can get away with breaking the rules. She made a mess out of whatever career she’d planned. If she manages to get discharged without a penalty, fine, but she’s a bad example to compare to other women who don’t act like she did.
In a sesnse she has earned her place in Marine Corps history, except it’s not the kind people want to remember and won’t be memorialized at the USMC national museum.
If nothing, it sends a strong signal to the other 23 female enlisted Marines who completed 03XX MOS training that the Corps will crush them if they decide to test the fraternization waters if ever assigned to a Victor unit…and anywhere else for that matter.
I hope it does send a strong signal to the others, MSgt, because the use of hyperbolic terms, like ‘trailblazing’ ignores what women in the Marines, and other services, have done since World War I.
This young woman just spat in the faces of all the Women Marines and Marinettes who went before her, who did NOT act like that, and I am fed up with it.
I avoided this my entire career.
I saw man that did not and they paid for it.
Also, they have been cleaning out the upper FG and GO ranks because of things like this.
It goes both ways…
Just saying.
Thinking about this.
Likely Scenario is that She was a borderline performer who never would have gotten promoted if she wasn’t a she.
She was also smart enough to use her status as a “trailblazer” and not give them anything major to hang her with.
Possible she barely passed PFT and rode light duty.
Command wants to launch her but has to have all their ducks in line.
She gift wraps herself for them by banging a guy in her squad.
You know how she got caught?
There was some pissed of 0311 Corporal who has been in the grunts for 7~9 years and was finally up for promotion to Sergeant. Then along comes this split tail who went to SOI and lat moved into the grunts and the one slot they had for Sergeant (optics you know-female Marine leading male infantry Marines).
