Our partners at Military Phonies share their work on this fellow, Leonard Sohn, also known as Lenny “Doc” Kamp who claims that he was a Marine Corps Medical Corpsman (despite the fact that there is no such creature). He claims that he participated in combat in nearly every conflict of the last few decades – including a deployment to Afghanistan in the 1980s;
I guess he was a one-man force in Afghanistan in the 80s.
The Navy disagrees;
It looks like he spent almost 5 years on active duty, with the Navy, not the Marine Corps. He trained as a dental technician, he spent about 7 months on a ship, and it looks like he was floating around the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm. However there is no foreign service in block 12f of the DD214. No Combat Action Ribbon, no Purple Hearts.
I have no idea what is a Stinger Anti-Terrorism Weapon is. I know that a Stinger is a ground-to-air weapon used against aircraft, but it’s not an anti-terrorist weapon.
But, anyway, he wasn’t a Navy or Marine Medical Corpsman – he was a dental technician, for Pete’s sake.

On the one performance eval, it says he was at the Naval Dental Center San Diego from 01 Feb 1990 to 31 Jan 1991. Then, on the last performance eval, it says he is at the same duty station and adds that he went on the USS Kansas City from 22 Mar 1991 to 10 Jun 1991. I can’t see for the life of me how he “fought in the original Desert Storm.”
Just because block 12f does not have any foreign service marked on it does not mean anything. Navy does not count it every time they deploy, that is what Deployment or Sea service ribbon is for. Foreign service counts when member is assigned for 1 year or more not detached or deployed like Navy does and I believe Marines count it same way.
Also this guy didn’t fall under, but as of 2005 DT and HN merged, so a DT is a Corpsman after 2005.

A couple of his Enlisted Performance Evaluation Reports that are posted above have him standing “Stinger gunner watches underway and at anchor” while assigned to “various ships in the Middle East” and “Forward deployed to the Persian Gulf / Indian Ocean / Red Sea area” during 1987-1988.
That period of time coincides with Operation EARNEST WILL and Operation PRIME CHANCE, and during that time frame the Navy routinely stationed Stinger teams aboard their ships operating in the Persian Gulf in order to augment their air defense capabilities against the low/slow flyer air threat.
Shitbird here probably saw some of the high-end stuff that the SEALs and Force Recon Marines were getting up to at the time out there, and decided to come up with some amazing tales of derring-do of his own.
And that bullshit about the “Stinger Anti-Terrorism Weapon (ATW)” makes me believe that that DD-214 has been altered.

I cant speak for the Navy Medical folks, but on the Army side, generally its just the Medics that are referred to as “Doc”…not the lab techs, the radiology techs, or the other specialized 68 series MOS fields…just the medics.
But if I had to make a guess, I would imagine its the same for the Navy?

I don’t recall any DTs being called doc, but in the ship’s medical department (as in the BAS) the term seemed ubiquitous.

For those with experience reading a Navy DD-214, what does “R” indicate in the Rank/Grade field? Retired? Recruit? Retard? I’m used to seeing an E, W, or O there.
I was thinking the same thing to
E-1 is Recruit, E-2 Seaman Apprentice, E-3 is Seaman, and after that (E-4 and up) it is Petty Officer.
Sorry, I was looking at the FOIA sheet which shows his grade as “R” and wondered what that meant. It looks like he was an E-3 on his other documents.
I don’t know if this happened in the 1990s, but when I went to “A” School, you automatically made E-4 within the next year, or whenever you had enough time in E-3 grade.
You had to complete military requirements for PO3 and take a test, just for Blue Jackets, then take your rate test. The undesignated like he was took what ever exam they were going to strike for.

His Enlisted Performance Eval Report has ” Sterilization Processing Facility Assistance In Charge” and “Stands DDT Watch”.
Am guessing they are Job Descriptions…but what exactly do they entail? 🤔
They usually wash the dental instruments in an anti-bacterial soap, then wrap them up in cloth along with guaze sponges, then sterilize them in an autoclave oven. They must keep on top of rotating the inventory like this to have fresh, sterile instruments.

We had a guy show up at the CCPP I worked at in San Marcos looking for a job. He did not follow the procedure to apply, but a couple of us guys that worked there started bullshitting with him about his experience. He kind of half-assed knew some things to say, but it seemed like he had no idea what he was talking about. One of the never been in the military guys on our crew asked him where he got his experience, the guy said he was a BT in the US Navy. I asked him what ship he was on, and he gave some kind of bullshit answer about not remembering, or not wanting to talk about it or something. The never been in the military guy flipped out, and told the guy in the twenty plus years he has worked power plants, he never met a snipe that would not talk ad nauseum about his ship, and the plant and the nasty-ass snipes etc… The job seeker got out of there very quickly. I guess people will claim to be a snipe to get one of those jobs where one sits around drinking coffee, reading the paper and bullshitting all day. Computers do all the work now.we only had three snipes work there in the sixteen years I was there. GS do not count unless they were BT first.

Always wondered what a dental tech had in mind when he wanted to get on his knees and examine a patient’s ROOT before beginning a root canal. Bet he drew pictures on them with a small magic marker once he could get an assistant (maybe his wife) to get it to stand up. The obvious giveaway was when he wanted to X-ray the area between the belly button and the knees prior to one of his ROOT canals.

I grew up with this loser. He was my adopted brother. He was 5yrs older than me and my sister and he was quite larger than both us and he would kick the shit out of us when my parents would go to work in the morning. Worst of all he sexually assaulted me when I was like 7.I never told anyone this. Not only that he would beat on my parents, that that forced them to put him in a halfway house. From their he went to a diffrent school and actually excelled in football was all state lb.After that he he joined the navy because he wanted to be like my cousin who was admirable and served honorably. I didn’t have much interaction with him after he inlisted but I do remember when he came home for xmas after his navy schooling I was told by my cousin that he had tried out for the seals but was ultimately cut and was told he would be a frog man.I’m not in the military so in nor sure about the rankings are positions.I rember telling all my friends and people who knew him that he was seal and everybody believed he was cause he was crazy and huge. I would love to hear the truth from his adopted brother. I can tell you exactly what the twisted asshat said to me to get me to feel sorry for him and spend half of my life savings and retirement in him. He said he was sexually abused by an older cousin as a child. Ran away and worked in Texas cotton fields for two years. Said the migrant workers stole his money but eventually he was caught during a raid. At this point he was returned to Woodland Springs and the judge put him in the Dale house in an emancipation program in downtown Colorado Springs. The truth is he beat his adopted father and went to the Dale house instead of juvenile hall. I am a smart woman. USAFA grad. Mother. Professional. But I listened to his PTSD stories and never questioned his claims.
