FBI agent’s negligent discharge injures one
An unnamed off-duty FBI agent was showing off his “dance moves” when his concealed firearm fell from his waistband. When he retrieved the gun, I guess he picked it up with the trigger, because it discharged injuring a by-stander according to the Denver Post;
“The victim was transported to the hospital with a good prognosis,” the [Denver police] news release read.
The name of the agent wasn’t released because he hasn’t been charged, said Marika Putnam, a Denver police spokeswoman.
All firearms are loaded always – every time you touch the trigger, the gun will discharge.
You’ll want to stay out of the comments wherever you see this article, because the gun control crowd thinks that all of gun owners are like this wooden-headed Bozo. The media calls this an “accidental discharge”, but it’s a negligent discharge.
Category: Dumbass Bullshit
The headline writes itself:
BOOGIE TURNS TO BOOMIE
If you remember Rule 1 and Rule 2, its reasonable to conclude you will never have a negligent discharge.
I’m thinking this guy needs to become a ex-FBI agent.
If he is this level of stupid, can you trust his judgement in the future.
Not sure of CO law, but most states frown on CCW in bars (felony in some states, depending on BAC.)
To quote Deputy Chief Robinson in Die Hard, “Guess we’re gonna need some more FBI guys.”
Not sure that applies to cop types generally. However, it well may apply if he wasn’t on duty and was drinking. At the very least, his job may be in jeopardy.
LEO’s are generally not allowed to carry while intoxicated. If he can somehow turn it in to line of duty I’d be impressed by that bullshit.
Depends on the state about the law, and department if it’s considered a policy violation.
My state has no such restriction on alcohol and off-duy carry, though it would be an incredibly stupid idea to go get loaded while packing. My department didn’t have any policy prohibiting it either. A lot of departments have a policy like the airlines’ 8 hours between bottle and throttle.
However it takes one moron like this to ruin it for everyone else. A fucking backflip? With a non-retention holster? Dumbass.
LEOSA also specifies that LEOs are not allowed to be intoxicated when carrying out of state. Not sure if it applies to a Federal Agent.
But yeah…. Stupid on a stick.
But hardly the first one:
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/nov/9/fbi-counterterror-chief-reportedly-drunk-loses-wea/
Turns out being intoxicated while carrying IS a violation of FBI policy.
https://oig.justice.gov/reports/2016/f161012.pdf
In my neck of the woods, NO ONE is allowed to carry ANY firearm (concealed or not) while intoxicated. THIS is common sense to me…YMMV.
Bart
In Maine it is legal as long as you are not under the influence which means you don’t drink at all. Designated driver is a good example.
Or prohibited by the owner or signs.
In NH, about the only place it’s still not legal to carry is a courthouse.
Restaurants that serve alcohol is okay, but NH never discusses bars specifically.
In any event, if you’re going to drink or be in a place where there’s a good chance of it going on, leave the gun. Take the cannoli.
In Colorado it is a class 2 misdemeanor (IOW the 2nd most serious of misdemeanor offenses) to be in possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
The cite is CRS 18-12-106(d):
There are no exceptions for law enforcement officers, state OR federal. 😉
If he had been a CCW carrying “citizen” he would have left that bar in handcuffs.
In CA – CCW permit holder – you may not carry in an establishment whose primary business is serving alcohol. You may also not consume alcohol or be impaired while carrying. So no cough syrup either.
Yes, some states have such laws but CO is not one of them. You can carry on a CCW permit in a bar or other establishment that serves alcohol (as long as it’s not prohibited by the establishment owner) but you cannot be “under the influence” when you are in possession of a firearm, CCW permit or not.
In Florida, CCW’S are not allowed to sit at a bar or be seated at tables around the bar. I eat at Applebees and some of the Ale houses and do sit at tables and High Hat tables close to the bar. At my age, I mind my own business and do not get involved with anyone. Been eating at these places going on ten years now after I moved down here.
Stupid. Just too stupid for words.
Exactly Right. It is a mind(?)set. “We are the fbi, doj, irs, atf, etc, we can do no wrong.” If you carry, you are Responsible.
Perhaps this will be a case of “fuck up move up”. It seems that the FBI has openings in DC for more idiots.
This idiot needs to be transferred to the rubber gun club, where presumably he’ll do less damage.
Another “trained professional” who will be able to carry concealed anywhere in the US for the rest of his life, while the rest of us are just poor peons who aren’t sure which end makes the boom sound and shouldn’t be trusted beyond our state’s boundaries with a handgun because of our state’s poor training requirements for a concealed carry license.
That FUCKIN’ FEEBIE needs to be forbidden from carrying a weapon until he shows responsibility, it appears he just picked his weapon up after discharging it with an “Oh well, who gives a fuck?” attitude! I hope he gets kidnapped and ass-raped to death by a mob of Hadjis!
Famous But Incompetent seems all too real these days when discussing the state of the FBI.
What a fucking tool.
Or the Federal Bureau of Indifference which will likely try to play this off like nothing happened. Can anyone even remotely picture the consequences of a Military Weapon going off and wounding an innocent Civilian? That Feebie’s ass needs to be deep fried to extra-extra crispy!
They like to downplay the negligence and corruption. 😉
Which makes this bozo’s move of idiocy all the more stoopid.
The state of the FBI begs for the Jimmy Breslin treatment a la “The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight”.
Keep your booger hook off the bang switch !!!
Hmmmm…. I thought a negligent discharge was what happened in the bathroom when you guys spent time on the throne with reading material you hide in that box in the garage.
This guy’s an idiot. He better not come to my house. I keep bacon grease in a jar, just for special dorks like him.
Hmmmm…. I thought a negligent discharge was what happened in the bathroom when you guys spent time on the throne with reading material you hide in that box in the garage.
Naw, Ex …. that’s giving a member a “dishonorable discharge”.
Hmmm…. now let’s try it with the proper html tags.
Naw, Ex …. that’s giving a member a “dishonorable discharge”.
I’m sure HE WAS a negligent discharge during a heavy $10 date in the back seat of an AMC Pacer behind some 7-11.
No, that’s intentional. So I hear.
The round fired by this… idiot… was the second negligent discharge. The first was done by his father. Time to put this dipshit on the rubber gun squad, in the motorpool washing cars.

Crap… Speaking of negligent – I wasnt trying to report your post – I totally thought that button was unloaded!
Reminds me of one of my favorite videos…

If the OPR [Office of Professional Responsibility]—read Internal Affairs— at the bureau doesn’t burn this guy down to civilian, then I foresee a career as the front desk greeter at the R/A office in Minot, ND.
He had his first Party Pop!
Give him a wooden gun and rape whistle for the rest of his short career
Will it be varnished?
It’s very likely if he knows and blows the right people in the Bureau.
I will bet you a coffe at your favorite coffee shop that nothing happens to this moron. Zero, Zip, Nada, Zilch. He is Federal Law Enforcement, nothing happens to them. They will bury him at a regional office for a year or two to let it blow over but it will be back to business.
Here is an example, NHSparky or Veritas Omnia Vincit might remember this:
https://patch.com/massachusetts/andover/weapons-stolen-from-fbi-swat-truck-in-andover
Nothing happened to this guy! If I left weapons, particularly a full auto weapon, in my vehicle and they got stolen. You would need a quija board, tracking dogs and Google earth to find me. HUGE double standard.
Sorry Jack, I disagree. I worked for a local and federal agency and saw quick discipline at both from similar (but less serious) incidents. It’s against fed policy to carry while drinking. In addition, firearms must be carried in a secure holster. The Buttcrack holster might look cool and gangsta but it’s not within policy. Watching the video, I’m not sure he even had any holster back there.
OPR will fry his ass, he will be sued civilly and the department will probably not indemnify him because he was way out of scope of employment.
I saw a similar case here where one of our officers “accidentally” killed a bar stool. He sells used cars for a living now.
Dumbass.
KEEP YOUR BUGGER HOOK OFF THE BANG SWITCH!
This DUMBASS will always be known as that guy!
Bugger hook? That sounds very painful
I always heard the Navy was all about buggery and the lash 😂
That’s a rum opinion.
Frank Zappa wrote a song, just for him: https://youtu.be/0fnKqnqfuaI
Accidental discharge: weapon fires due to a mechanical failure of some kind, without input from the user.
Negligent discharge: weapon fires because the user is a fucking dipshit who does something stupid while failing to keep his booger hook off the bang switch.
Looks like he just had the weapon stuck in his waist band without a holster. Adequate ankle holsters are not that expensive and easily purchased, this was definitely a dumb ass move.
Naw, he’s got an inside the waistband, small of back holster with no positive retention.
You are correct, went back and watched the video again and could see the belt clip, thanks.
I’ve seen this story plastered all over and your headline is the first one I’ve seen that calls it what it actually is. The media truly has no clue about firearms and the actual safety rules. It was not an accident!
I think we are all missing the real crime. The guy has no rhythm. He had no business dancing.
Hack Stone thought that he had some killer dance moves.
1) Round in the chamber
2) Safety not on
3) Grabs gun by the trigger
Mandatory vasectomy.
With the weapon in question used as the surgical instrument.
This story just proves once again that the FBI is now full of incompetent dufi (plural of “dufus”). Who carrying concealed would consider doing a back-flip while packing and then stick his booger hook onto the bang switch while picking up the weapon off the floor. I would like to have the fun of suing the FBI for their negligence in training and supervising this moron.
That would be “dufae” wouldn’t it? 😉
You are likely correct, my Latin training is almost non-existent. I was using the phonetic spelling.
Whether or not phonics is involved, your original point is more than valid – if there is even a small chance you might be doing some gymnastics moves while armed, a positive retention holster (or other means of absolute restraint) should be in order. But this guy looked both too old and too fat to be attempting a back flip, armed or not.
Stupid.
While I get your point (less than manly culture pervading the Bureau these last few years) … Latin grammar stipulates that if there is even one male (or one real man at least) in a group, then the entire group assumes masculine forms…so it would be “dufi” (plural, second declension, nominative)
Yes, I’m old.
Drunk, stupid, break dancing and carrying concealed, is no way to go through life, nor further your career.
They’ll always be openings for mall cops. Get your resume freshened up.
Dunno, Sparks. The kind of guy who goes through life drunk, stupid, break dancing and carrying concealed, is probably the same kind of guy who would wreck a Segway even if it had lights and a siren…
850AM News had the weapon going off when it hit the deck (floor) Our gun custodian/training officer/armorer took a S&W Mod. 10 .38 bull barrel and hammered the hammer until it broke off. There is a bar between the hammer firing pin and cylinder that blocks the firing pin from hitting the case’s primer. While we are on guns, I was at the range this morning and a shooter 3 points down from me was shooting an AR variant with a suppressor. I thought that he was shooting full auto bursts but did not see a bumpstock, so when I packed it in, I asked the safety officer about it. Said it was a new type of two trigger device that recently came out. Can anyone out there help me out on this? I didn’ get a chance to talk to the shooter. Guy 2 points down was shooting a Desert Eagle and the flame coming out of the muzzle was out of sight.
Probably not very new. It was likely a binary firing device. One on squeeze, one on release. Makes firing twice as fast. They have been around a while but more recently got more reliable.

Here’s one that penetrated the frank and beans.
