Robert Kenneth Hume turns himself in

| May 2, 2018

Robert Kenneth Hume, the fellow who thought that an altered DD214 would help him get a job as Fire Chief in Marietta, Georgia turned himself in to the police on Sunday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution;

He was charged with first-degree forgery, a felony, and false statements as a military veteran, a misdemeanor, according to Marietta police.

On Sunday morning, Hume surrendered and was booked into the Cobb jail. He was released that afternoon after posting $10,000 bond, booking records showed.

When applying for the vacant fire chief position April 5, Hume allegedly altered his military discharge paperwork, known as the DD214, to show he had earned a silver star medal, a bronze star medal, a purple heart medal and numerous others, according to police. On April 17, police secured an arrest warrant for Hume.

“The accused also presented a fraudulent certificate stating he had earned the rank of Master Sergeant, when the highest rank actually obtained was Sergeant,” the warrant states.

Finally. A police department that takes forged DD214s seriously.

as a cobb dude, along with some of my brethren posting here, trust me when I say that we take a very dim view of these types of shenanigans around here.

Thank you and your brothers in blue for standing up for what’s right…

Anyone who laid down a bet is going to collect, big time! If he traveled from CA to GA to be arrested, we’re talking 500-1! Hey. I wonder if Hume saw the odds and put a few bucks on himself.

Color me shocked as well!

I hope they DON’T take it easy and make an example out of him.

I’d like to see the altered DD214 and the promotion certificate to MSG just to give the latest products from Forgin’ Frank and Bob Neener a look over.

C’mon, news agencies, get with the program and show the world what you’re reporting about.

What an I-D-I-O-T!

This might have something to do with Cobb County’s interest in Mr. Hume.

From the online bio of Cobb County Police Chief Michael Register:

“Chief Register also served 22 years in the U.S. Army Special Operations community, where he was a member of the 11th and 20th Special Forces Group and deployed to numerous countries, to include combat operations in Afghanistan, where he served on a Special Forces mobile recon element.”

Doh.

2/17 Air Cav – I agree with you Doh. – ah Mr. Hume you screwed up big time and got caught. How would you have known that the Chief of police would have 5 DD214s from his military career.

I’m wondering if this ding-a-ling saw that kind of info on the website and thought to himself–“I know! I’ll just gin up a little military fakery here and impress this guy into giving me the job”

After all, everyone “knows” that these records are too hard to check….right?

Imagine the working of a mind that small…

RGR 4-78

It’s all fun and games until you (hume) get kicked square in the a$$.

I know Chief Register. Mike is a good man.

NHSparky

That is like a major, “Aw, shit” moment right there.

Mike is definitely a good man. In this case, however, it’s Marietta PD and not Cobb County PD that did the leg work. It will be Cobb County DA’s Office that handles the case, and I’m not even sure anyone in that office has been assigned the case since it’s so new.

Perhaps Planet Ord will chime in with some details.

Not much to tell. He turned himself in to the sheriff’s office, I believe. They run the jail. He probably had a bond set up ahead of time. Since he’s on bond everything gets sent over to the Cobb DAs office. The white collar crimes ADAs are known bulldogs. Very intelligent men. I’ve worked a few cases with them and have always been impressed.

The next step, which will take months to set up, will be indictment and then motions hearings. I imagine that there will be a Jackson-Denno (suppression) hearing. Then it gets pipelined for trial or if he is smart he will take a plea. This case is made for a plea agreement. Who knows? Shane Ladner rode that pony all the way to multiple felony convictions after a trial.

It’s time to wait.

I wonder if Bubba & Thor have popped his cherry yet?

You did not Hume, er us at all.

Did someone say “altered” DD-214?

Oh Randy, Randy … come out a play!

Cody

Damn I wish I’d had just made Sergeant, why lie and say your a master Sergeant? I don’t understand these clowns. Be proud of what you have and did. I mean just being a sergeant and serving is something to be proud of. I hope you do a few years…

Hack Stone

After posting bail, he proceeded to Merrit Island Florida for an interview with All Points Logistics for an opening in Reston VIrginia.

Just wondering………………….why didn’t he just go for GENERAL so he could add all those “reserved for officers only” medals? A douchebag medal with 4 oak leave clusters.

You can search for “Hume” for the criminal case and see the sentence. Hume pleaded guilty as a first offender and got 10 years probation for the forgery and a $500 fine, and 12 months probation for the stolen valor (false representation as a veteran) to be concurrent with the other sentence. After three years of good behavior, it can be totally expunged. He’s not supposed to have any weapons or violate his probation, and the judge said that he would definitely extradite him.

Thank you for the update.
