Specialist Travis Reynolds and family found

| February 14, 2018

Last week, the Utica, New York family of Deanna Reynolds reported her missing along with her son and her husband, Travis Reynolds, an Army Specialist assigned as a 35F intelligence analyst with the 95th Civil Affairs Brigade at Fort Bragg, NC. According to the Fayetteville Observer, the family has been found alive and well in a campground in Tennessee, but Travis has been AWOL from the Army for almost a month;

Reynolds left voluntarily and has been marked AWOL since Jan. 17, a Fort Bragg official said Monday.

The Rhea County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee found the family at a campsite, according Lt. Bryan Coromato of the Utica Police Department.

Reynolds, 25; his wife, Deanna; and their 19-month-old son, Cooper, were last seen by Deanna Reynolds’ family on Feb. 5 in Utica, WTVD reported.

Utica police said Deanna Reynolds’ family had not heard from her since Feb. 6. Her family filed missing persons reports for her and her son.

The part that really pissed me off about the story is this line (emphasis mine);

…the Utica Police Department in New York confirmed that the Reynoldses were found in Tennessee early Monday and are in “good health.”

I thought the Fayetteville Observer was better than that.

I just hope he didn’t release any classified data.

Sapper3307

One to many deployments without Greenbeans coffee?

AWOL as a 35F? WTF, did they threaten to actually make him go out to the field or something?

Carlton G. Long

They told him that they couldn’t just write in his PT and marksmanship results this year.

Ret_25X

so he was already AWOL when he was at home with family….interesting…

Stoutguy

Probably seeking some liberal media sympathy for missing, with family forgetting he is awol.

Tallywhagger

There used to a degree program for journalists, where spelling, rhetoric, composition, and punctuation were ordinary skills.

Contemporary jornos seem to have come a different collective, Butthead Phonics For Fun And Publication.

Graybeard

From my brief exposure to the journalism/mass communications department at Sam Houston State University, housed in the Dan Rather building [talk about truth in advertising] I would say that skills such as spelling, rhetoric, composition, punctuation, comprehension, reasoning, logic and integrity are deemphasized and discouraged.

I have known of journalists who do seek to get an accurate picture of events and present an impartial analysis of facts. I actually know one.

Something about chance and statistics comes to mind.

YMMV

Two words, AWOL WUSS!

2/17 Air Cav

Maybe he saved his marriage. Who knows? On the other hand, if they throw the book at him, rather than just busting him and fining him, that plan might not have been such a good one.

MOS 35F, Combat Intelligence Analyst. Had to look it up. You Army guys and your MOS’ are confusing.

*grin*

I know right?

E4 Mafia For Life.

His Navy MOS will soon be Bunk Mate 3rd Class. He will be serving under Bubba and Tiny.

RGR 4-78

Spec AWOL will soon be known as Pvt Busted.

Carlton G. Long

Probably end up 92G – Food Service Specialist after his security clearance is revoked

2/17 Air Cav

I guess there’s a message in this to those who reported the gang missing, such as, ‘When we want to get away, that includes from you, too!’

OWB

What am I missing here? Guy goes AWOL, visits wife’s family, then hits the road again. Something else must be in the gap between this and her family filing a missing person report on an adult relative who doesn’t even live near them.

Weird. But good that the Army may have him in custody. Or not. We don’t know where he, his wife, the child or the dogs may be today.

Do the dogs have names??? Which vet inserted their chips????

CCO

Regarding making the Reynolds surname plural: if you would refer to a family named Smith as the Smiths and a family named Jones as the Joneses wouldn’t you refer to the members of the family Reynolds as Reynoldses (whether they were the famous ones from Forsyth County or the more obscure ones from the coast)? Words ending in ‘s’ are made plural by adding ‘-es’ to the end, right?

CCO

But does the two syllable word that means the opposite of fro have an ‘s’ on the end?

OWB

Only on alternate Thursdays in months with multiple full moons.

CCO

ka-ching!

Stoutguy

I’m feeling the family won’t hear from him for an even longer time. Can’t wait to hear more detail on this guy. I hope you TAS guys are on the case.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

Nothing wrong sitting around a camp fire at night singing Sara Sponda Sara Sponda and banging sticks together.

CCO

Sure, you just gotta go ask your sergeant for some leave paperwork first! (Nick Noid; not you, the soon to be private.)

CCO

At least Wickers didn’t get ’em; there was an especially dangerous group near Utica a while back, or so I’m told.

Old 1SG, US Army (retired)

So he’s reported as AWOL on January 17th and last heard from back home on February 6th… that’s about 20 days, too early for the family to get the standard letter from the commander explaining that the their loved one is AWOL…

Wonder what prompted the family to report him as missing?

A Proud Infidel®™

So WTF made him want to wuss out and go AWOL, did he get a No Pay Due for say, failure to pay his DPP at the PX?

Claw

Upcoming unit deployment?

CCO
NHSparky

Wearing the same clothes, no less.

HMC Ret

Does the status of AWOL become Desertion after 30 days?

Claw

Yes.

Charles

Maybe.
Don’t confuse a “personnel” Desertion (in the Army, a “SIDPERS” desertation) with a UCMJ desertion (Article 85, UCMJ).
A soldier can be court-martialed for desertion after he’s gone for an hour; and a soldier can come back after 30 days and be guilty of no more than AWOL.
After a soldier is AWOL for 30 days he can be automatically dropped from the rolls as a deserter for the purpose of clearing him out of the TO & E and requisitioning a replacement, but if he evidences an intent to return after 40 days (perhaps after making some phone calls, writing letters to his commander) might be guilty of only AWOL. A soldier who burns his uniforms, shreds his ID card, and buys a one way ticket to a far away country can be stopped at the airport an hour later and convicted of desertion because he has evidenced an intent to leave and never come back.

jeff monroe

This whole story makes no since and leaves a lot of details out? He was just a E-4 Intelligence Analyst !!

timactual

If he really wanted to go winter camping that much, reenlisting for 11B would have been a much better decision.

Ret_25X

he did not want to be infantry…he just wanted to hide from Uncle Sugar

Carol

Any updates on why he went AWOL??

Darlene Lewis

No one knows the details of this situation so until you do keep your rude comments to yourself. Thank you.
