Victor Quinonez; Salcido’s student honored
According to the Daily Breeze, Victor Quinonez, the 17-year-old student who recorded his teacher, Gregory Salcido, on a disparaging rant about members of the military, was honored by American Legion Post 61. The presentation of a certificate of recognition was made aboard the USS Iowa;
A humble Quinonez said he appreciated the recognition. “It means the world to me because I’ve always seen these veterans as my heroes, and now that they’re telling me they see me as their hero, I feel very honored,” he said.
The teacher, Gregory Salcido, has been placed on paid leave by the school district and the incident remains under investigation. On the recording, Salcido is heard telling students in the classroom that members of the military are “the frickin’ lowest of the low.” He mocks those who go into the military as “desperate” and having “no other options.”
I wonder what Salcido thinks of military members past, future and present these days.

Yeah, us dumbasses are rather fond of enterprising young men and women who find the courage to expose liars and turds. We also are fond of those who follow after us and carry the weight of service on their young shoulders.

Thanks for that. Interesting read. I’ve been going through my grandpa’s service. He was 34th ID and was part of the Battle of Rapido River after surviving north Africa. Took shrapnel from a German 88mm flak gun.

Sadly, the usual question I would ask (again) is why that scumbag Salcido is on PAID leave; it’s just another paid vacation for the POS. Every time some govt official screws the pooch, whether fed/state/local, they get paid vacation. I know it’s because of labor contracts and what not. But still…What the fuck?
As a former public sector union steward, it’s about due process. Your pay can’t be pulled without the process being followed.
It’s a safeguard against petty, trumped up charges which are unfortunately all too common in government work where ass kissing and nepotism result in promotions more than hard work.

Seems to me that the equitable thing would be to pay these people and, if they are found to have committed an act or omission for which they are ultimately fired, then charge them for the days they were on paid leave. Otherwise, they are benefiting from the date of their bad act or omission and the date of their firing.
That would be fair.
I agree, that’d be fair, but it’s hard to get money back once it’s been paid out.

I can’t speak for all public sector workforces, but in my experience on the Federal side, most times an employee got reinstated was because the agency royally fucked up somewhere along the line of shitcanning said employee.
The agency sets the rules and standards of conduct. They pretty much hold all of the cards. Since they make the rules, it’s only fair to ask them to follow them. Otherwise, why even have the rules?
My department had a guy a few years back who went sailing right past full retard and decided to ax-murder a stripper (great PR! /sarc). He then went on the run for a week. The media made much of the fact that he was fired for not showing up to work, not for killing somebody. They didn’t bother mentioning the fact that, since this nation of ours upholds the presumption of innocence, you can’t fire someone for doing something they haven’t been convicted of in a court of law. He was guilty as hell and everybody knew it, but had he been terminated over the murder charge before he even went to trial, much less got convicted, he could and would sue the shit out of us from his cell and win. We could only legally get him on violation of department rules and policy, specifically not showing up to work. Your employer legally cannot do any kind of punitive action just because you’ve been charged.
Exactly. And keep in mind, this teacher guy, as repugnant as he is, probably didn’t commit an actual crime.

This young man has a good attitude and stood up for himself to someone who is/was nothing but a bully. ‘Bout time.
And yet, it is the lefties who typically tell all the little children that they must stop bullying, and those same lefties get ALL upset when anyone asks them to stop being the bully.

In addition to being honored by the local American Legion post, Victor Quinonez has also been invited to visit the White House by chief of staff John Kelly
Hundreds showed up at an El Rancho School District meeting last week to demand that Salcido be fired.
Salcido has been relieved of all committee assignments on the Pico Rivera city council. At least one report has said that Salcido has been “nowhere to be found,” according to Pico Rivera Mayor Gustavo Camacho.
A dog not barking is that going into hiding, and so far not issuing a public apology, could mean Salcido still stands by what he said in the classroom. Therefore, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if Salcido’s own world view is to see himself as the victim in all this.
Maybe he and Kathy Griffin can go on tour together. That is, if any venue would book them.
I’m sure he’s polishing a Victim Card®™ he plans to use in some slobbering sob story appearance. I still say FUCK Gregory Salcido in every way possible.
