Retired general isn’t Democrat enough to run

Army Major General Rick Stevens retired in November and returned home to Indiana with the intention to run for Congress as a Democrat. Because he was in the Army and not in Indiana in the last election cycle, he needs the permission of local Democrat chairwoman Sandi Stewart. He says that he is “politically independent in the military, describing himself as a fiscal conservative who is progressive on social and environmental issues.”
Ms. Stewart says that he isn’t Democrat enough, according to Stars & Stripes;
Stewart said that Stevens’ voting record doesn’t lean toward Democratic principles and beliefs. She said she won’t sign off on someone who she doesn’t think is a Democrat.
“The signature he’s wanting me to sign off on is me saying he’s a Democrat,” Stewart said. “I’m not convinced of that.”
But Stevens said that after his retirement he found his beliefs are more closely aligned with those of the Democratic Party.
I’ll bet Ms. Stewart thinks that Bradley Manning is a woman, though. An unshaven, hairy-legged guy in a dress would be welcomed in a ladies’ room with her. I guess this self-designation stuff doesn’t count for every thing.

That’s okay with me. A retired Army general running as a D will garner too many votes from middle-of-the-road voters. Maybe he should start his desired new career at a state or local level, say, register of wills.
Nah. He should run as a GOPer. He’s too conservative on spending to be a democrap.
if by fiscally conservative we mean “spends money like a Kardashian”, then yes, he is a conservative.
“spends money like a Kardashian” doesn’t narrow the field any, they are ALL about as fiscally conservative as my wife with a brand new credit card.
Sorry, left off the /sarc tag! My bad.
Poor lil ol general, he be too smart fer them dumocraps! but not smart enough to be a republican! LOL
He’s not “pure” enough for the D-rats…
And if you don’t believe that the D-rats are the party of rayscisst and bigoted behavior, I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.
Take it is a compliment sir.
And,maybe, re-assess who you think you might be closer to. Obviously, you’re too American and middle of the road to be a dem.
Does he really want to sit among Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters and Hank Johnson? He should consider this being shot down by some floozy at the O Club, then finding out she has the clap.
He is just not proggie enough to be a present day D-rat. He needs to start espousing all the progtard talking points of America is bad, bad, and then try again. Maybe he can wear the prickly hair shirt to atone for his white male privilege.
The real reason is that his uniform with a lifetime of achievements both shame the career swamp dwellers and puts
Congresswoman Sparkle Hat from Florida in a shadow.
I really thought you were determined to speaking of your self in the third person. The absence of a woman owned business preface is disappointing.
It used to be a “proud woman owned business”, but since the company makes no mention of the owner of the company, nor any employee with the exception of the Vice President, Hack was able to convince Psaul to refer to the company as a “proud but humble woman owned business”. And if you want to place an order for some outdated software, do not send your purchase to the corporate headquarters on Wilson Lane in Bethesda MD. In a a corporate resizing move, Psaul sold it last year for the princely sum of $87,700 (according to Zillow).
That would appear to be what he wants. That tells us something about his lack of integrity and he lack of character.
They won’t take a retired General, but have no problem holding up a KKK member, Robert Byrd, as a respected member of their party.
And no problems with murderers (Kennedy), Marxists (Luis Guiterrez), socialists (Sanders), and anti-Semites (Ellison).
Along with liars and sex abusers like Bill “Blowjob Willie” Clinton, lowlives like Dan Rostenkowski,…
They didn’t mind a pedophile, womanizing pervert like Bubba or the evil bitch of the east, the coven attending witch, the saul alinsky asswipe….the General should consider that a genuine compliment!!
The original source for this is apparently a story that ran in the Vincennes Sun-Commercial:

Something interesting is what happens when you connect some dots. The only person who has been accepted for a Democratic candidacy in the Congressional race is a Terra Haute attorney named William Tanoos. Another potential candidate was a former Evansville mayor and state representative, but he announced this week he was dropping out. What that means is that by denying Gen. Stevens the ability to run, Sandi Stewart is effectively hand-picking Tanoos to run unopposed in the primary. Unless somebody else shows up to file before the Feb. 9 deadline, and she allows their name to be placed on the ballot.
…So she’s following ex-president Barry’s playbook then?
He pulled a stunt like that back in his state senate days. If memory serves, he accepted the assistance of one of his mentors to get a campaign going, but doc-blocked her when she tried to enter the race. In effect he ran unopposed.
Cronyism at it’s best. Pretty common in sheriffs departments. Sheriff waits until after an election to retire, appointing one of his chief deputies to serve as interim sheriff. Interim sheriff runs as the incumbent, and barring any major scandals or malfeasance, incumbents usually win with large margins.
Any time you have a single party system, this is the result.
Your seeing this play out on a National Stage at The CFPB between Trump, Mulvaney and Leandra English. English was “appointed” by her boss days before he retired being elevated from a position specifically to enable her to take his job and continue the corruption. Trump replaced her with Mulvaney and in true crony entitlement fashion English sued claiming The President had no authority to remove her from her job. IE: The Chief Executive could not fire someone in the Executive Branch or to put it differently, elected officials had no say or oversight over government. They are permanent jobs with workers beholden to no-one. Friday a court disagreed. That type of thinking of a permanent deep state swamp running everything answering to no-one should frighten every American
That was Obama’s play to get into the Illinois State Legislature. He succeeded in getting his primary opposition disqualified from running, meaning he was the sole D-rat candidate in the general election in a strong D-rat Chicongo district. Then when he ran for the US Senate he had Axelrod expose the sealed divorce file of Jack Ryan so that he would be replaced as the Republican opposition with a less popular candidate, halfway through the election.
OH, so she canned the General in favor of Hillarying the election for who SHE wanted.
I’m curious which “social issues” he’s talking about, especially whether he’s another of (master)Bateman’s ilk, who favors massive Constitutional violations in favor of his “social” agenda. Hopefully not.
Could be a Republican mole.
Thank you for your service General.
Doubtful. The GEN corp is full of 0bama’s boys and it will remain so for a while.
Heck, even the field grades have been tainted. I remember accidentally overhearing two field grades discussing climate change as if it was real.
I don’t doubt that a bit, that shit was being pimped on the Military when I was AD in the early 90’s!
Not all field grades. By my experience, not many, actually.
While I generally don’t talk politics or religion at work, it always turns out that all participants are conservative. Of course I’m talking about maneuver branches.
Is that spelled “manure” branches? 😉
You don’t rise much above Captain unless you are a political hack playing the game. Unfortunately over the last decade or so that required being a Progressive SJW
Been in the army off and on since 86. Never played a game and never political. Just letting my NCOs do their jobs and teaching my officers that there really is such a thing as NCO business worked pretty well for me. Of course I’ve maxed out and don’t deny that had i been political I may have gone further. I’ll call it good with a career entirely at the tactical level. But bottom line is that my experience in the infantry/armor world is that officers and even most field grades are typically conservative. Navy or Air Force experiences may vary widely….
The social and environmental progressivism ALWAYS cancels out the fiscal conservatism.
Let him remain in political limbo. The Republicans have more than enough RINOes and Democrats In All But Label Only (DIABLOes) already.
a person cannot be a social progressive and a fiscal conservative. Social progressivism requires a vast, expensive welfare state and considers all wealth in the nation to be the property of the state, for them to with as they please.
Fiscal conservatives believe that all wealth in a nation belongs to those who earn it and that they have no rights to it except for a narrow range of consideration like defense or police.
They favor low taxes and do not think the government should be in the business of enforcing trendy social beliefs on people. Ergo, not progressives.
It used to be possible to be fiscally conservative and socially progressive. You could be careful with Constitutional constraints on use of the people’s money while allowing people to do what they wanted at their own expense, or with funding from private sources. When government put itself in charge of everything, everything got messed up.
Usedtabe each party had its own liberal and conservative branches… tended to curb the over-the-top immoderation we are stuck with now.
The only over the top immoderation we have to deal with now is that foisted on us by the Mighty Mulatto Mental Midget. Trump is rapidly unfucking that though.
I say give all the D-Rats a good pounding of the SQUEAKHOLE! All hail the SQUEAKHOLE!!
Ummm, dude, that’s pretty ghey.
Hey, Willy… don’t be pounding the SQUEAKHOLE, dude. As W2 put it, it’s pretty ghey…
Now, your brother… he’s all into DORKING THE SQUEAKHOLE (and I’m hoping that someone with the name of “Mr. Tiny” does his SQUEAKHOLE when he’s finally caught for his Stolen Valor bullshit).
fiscally conservative and socially liberal.
Believe that’s called a Libertarian.
nope…libertarians do not believe that your money should be extorted to pay for other’s social rights.
Many formal Libertarians, sadly, think we could reduce the Navy to just USS Constitution, the Marines to just the guys at the embassies, the Air Force to just Air Force One and the Army, if they are really hawkish, to just the Third Infantry Regiment.
Liberty is a great idea. The Libertarian party is about as dysfunctional an advocate for Liberty as has yet been found.
Which is a crying shame.
Libertarianism is a great idea–if you’re 14 years old with no real world experience.
As I like to say it, I used to be a libertarian. And then I grew up.
They are as broken in concept as a football bat. The Pauls are an excellent example of that.
I think the thought that personal liberty should be one of the prime considerations when creating laws is very important. Unfortunately big ‘L’ Libertarians (i.e. those in the Libertarian party) are just f***ing loony. Legalizing drugs and destroying the military are good ways to fuck up your country. That seems to be their many reason for existence, however. So I have to find my political home with the. . .
Republicans.
>Sigh<
“main reason” not “many reason”
that should read.
Has a relative who is the school super in Terre Haute. Very politically connected.
With how openly hostile the democrap party is towards America and it’s citizens how anyone that’s served can vote for them let alone want to join that party to run for office blows my mind. I mean this isn’t even the democrap party of a decade ago. There is no moderate only unhinged raving mad libtard in that party. How they treated Jim Webb and how they are now openly flaunting the law and their desire to put criminals over American’s lives should say it all. Maybe this guy should get more involved so he can understand this? Maybe he knows now who knows.
^^^^^Like^^^^^
Indeed!
Some of my Democrat favorite hits:
►Booing God in 2012.
►Giving Jim Webb crap about having the gall to say all lives matter.
Jim Webb never had a chance in the primaries. As we now know the Dem primary “process” was completely staged theatre. I could have voted for him over all of the other Dems and probably three quarters of the Repub presidential candidates.
Come to think of it, I don’t think the likes of Harry Truman, JFK, Looyd Bentsen or Zell Miller would pass muster into the D-rat party these days because they didn’t endorse the dogma and agenda in the Communist Manifesto.
Any Cold War Dem would find themselves without a home. Since 2002 it seems the national party has even worked against the fiscal Blue Dogs in the party. The DNC would rather have see a dog lose their seat to a Republican than throw their time and money behind a member that brings any kind of “responsibility” stench with them.
Translation is that while he believes in some of the progressive ideas of the Democraps he probably refused to go bottoms up on the kool-aid.
Saying you are fiscally conservative means he won’t back the government stealing from taxpayers to fund the lazy and criminals,, you know, a big part of the democrap voting block
Even Destroit has managed to balance its budget for three years.

After they were forced to post bankruptcy…
Fruit salad check
Do engineers have their version of CIB/CMB or a combat action ribbon?
Air Assault worn with Wings?
Getting canned by the Democrats is a huge honor
Engineers would wear a combat action badge, if authorized. Not some engineer-unique device. Nothing wrong with wearing both air assault and airborne wings, if that’s what you are asking.
The wings on top left (right as you are looking) are Airborne, the bottom wings have a rotor which are Air Assault. They still doing that at Ft. Campbell?
Yes. But they also run it at a variety of other places now. So Campbell will call it The Air Assault School.
Mr. Stewart came up with her opinion while she was at home, in her one room apartment, as she was feeding her 11 rescue cats.
NOTHING FURTHER.
Did anyone catch the oddity of ribbons? (Not wrong, just odd)
Legion of Merit, with two Oak Leaf Clusters
Bronze Star Medal, with two Oak Leaf Clusters
Meritorious Service Medal with one or two Oak Leaf Clusters (can’t tell for sure, might only be one, but it looks off center)
Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters
That rack is kinda odd, threes, even if the MSM is only twice.
Bronze Stars without the ‘V’ are just glorified MSM’s, so 5 or 6 ‘Field Grade Good Conduct Medals’ and 3 GO GCMs. Odd to see a GO without a DoD-level medal (DSSM/DMSM) – must have avoided the 5-sided puzzle-palace.
Looks like three of everything, from AAM through LOM. Also looking at a SWASM with a campaign star but neither Kuwait liberation medal is odd to me. Go there after the shooting stopped, apparently?
SWASM + 1 star = Defense of Saudi Arabia August 2, 1990 January 16, 1991
SWASM + 2 stars = Liberation and Defense of Kuwait January 17, 1991 April 11, 1991
+ KLMK and KLMSA
SWASM = 3 starts = Southwest Asia Cease-Fire April 12, 1991 November 30, 1995
I was in SA August 7, 1990 – January 16 1991.
Iraq and Kuwait from January 16 – February 28, 1991 +/- days.
My departing gifts:
Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 stars, Kuwaiti Liberation Medal Saudi Arabia with one golden coconut tree (no monkee attachements though) and Kuwaiti Liberation Medal Kuwait.
… and the coveted NDSM…
